Madeleine McCann: 4650 Articles, Christian Ridout Was Here And Lawless Morocco
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: Poster blitz in Morocco”
“More than 11,000 letters and posters have been distributed in remote parts of the North African country to jog the memory of someone who may have seen the little girl”
A spokesman says: “E-mail is great within larger towns and cities, but there are still a lot of people who do not have Madeleine’s picture or the phone contact details to report sightings or information”
Do you have Madeleine’s picture? Do you know the phone number?
DAILY MAIL: “Letter blitz on remote Moroccan mountain villages that Madeleine McCann campaign cannot reach”
“Agents [of Metodo 3] have distributed photographs of the little girl with an appeal in French and Arabic to call with information about her whereabouts. But it has proved difficult to reach all of the isolated communities where a child could have been taken, many of which are in lawless, mountainous regions”
Those lawless Moroccans…
“Madeleine: Private detectives hunt for British barman known as DJ Shifty, accused of grooming an under-age girl for sex”
“Part-time barman and disc jockey Christian Ridout, 32, allegedly sent the British girl obscene text messages when he worked in an expats’ pub 200 yards from where Madeleine disappeared. When the 12-year-old’s mother discovered the explicit messages, Ridout - also known as DJ Shifty - left Portugal in a hurry”
A suspect?
Says the paper: “By coincidence, the Ridout family were next-door neighbours of the family of Robert Murat, the chief suspect in the Madeleine hunt, when the Murats lived in the nearby village of Almadena. The night after Madeleine went missing, a British expat walked into the Plough and Harrow pub in Praia da Luz, still owned by his parents Tony, 57, and Jill, 58, and asked: ‘Where’s Christian then?’ Locals have disparagingly nicknamed the pub ‘The Plough and Paedophile‘ and the missing man is widely disliked in the tight-knit community”
So where is Christian? Well, he left Praia da Luz a few years ago. His mother says she has not seen him for two years. Says the girl’s mother: “I went in to see them just before Madeleine disappeared and they confirmed they’re still looking for him. ‘No one knows where he is, but he could have been back to this area”
Or not…
THE SUN front page: “Publicity blitz for Maddie in Africa”
“Many still don’t recognise her”
Help make Madeleine McCann the world’s most recognisable face
“Despite a massive campaign highlighting the seven-month search for their daughter, experts believe many in the north African country still lack the crucial information they need to help trace her”
Many?
“Now a silent army of volunteers from the Helping To Find Madeleine campaign have given their time over the festive period to flood businesses across the nation with 11,500 letters and posters”
Not so silent
“The initiative comes after the McCanns’ Spanish detective agency pin-pointed Morocco as the most likely place little Maddie may have been taken”
Can you pinpoint a “likely place” to an entire nation? Is this detective work or guesswork?
Kate and Gerry McCann are “doctors”. Fact
Kate pins on badge of hope: “ANGUISHED Kate McCann returned to church yesterday – with a badge of hope bearing a picture of missing Madeleine pinned close to her heart”
A new merchandise push?
One “worshipper” at Kate’s church says: “Every mother wants to cuddle her children at Christmas – it’s heartbreaking that Kate has been denied that. The badge is a symbol of hope that could help focus new eyes on the hunt for Madeleine”
“347 new Maddie calls combed” - The McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell says: “We are pleased with the calls and they are continuing to come in. Every single call is much appreciated and we are going through them with a fine-tooth comb. Any that need to be acted upon swiftly are being acted upon swiftly. We don’t go into detail because if there is any significant information”
DAILY STAR: “TECS: MADDIE BEING HELD IN MOROCCO”
“More than 11,500 posters appealing for information about the youngster have been sent out to the furthest reaches of the north African country”
Francisco Marco, the PI hired by the McCanns, says: “Morocco is the perfect place to hide a kidnapped girl”. He has said this before. Is Morocco the perfect place? Why not Algeria? Or Malta?
DAILY RECORD: “Maddie Poster Blitz In Morocco”
“Schools, supermarkets and medical centres are being blitzed with thousands of photos of the missing four-year-old. And letters written in French and Arabic are being sent to towns and villages in the most remote parts of the country”
Madeleine in Morocco. Or not. Again… Isabel Gonzalez saw her. Mari Pollard saw her
Clarence Mitchell says: “Anyone who puts effort into assisting us in any way, we are incredibly grateful for, and it sounds like they have done a fantastic job. I have no doubt that it is this kind of effort and initiatives that will lead us to finding Madeleine”
Gerry and Kate McCann are “doctors”
THE GUARDIAN: “From Mr Bean to Shambo the bull, the media obsessions of 2007”
A review: “Almost nine months after she vanished, we know a lot about Madeleine McCann and her family. We know the legal implications of being named an official suspect in a Portuguese criminal investigation. What we do not know is who took her, if she is alive and whether any trace of her will ever be found again. A total of 4,650 articles have appeared in British newspapers since she disappeared on May 3”
THE SCOTSMAN: “Madness, badness, hate and heroism - Robert McNeil continues his unique take on the events of 2007 with a look back at the second three months of the year…”
“Hell also visited the parents of three-year-old Madeleine McCann on 3 May when the toddler disappeared from their holiday apartment in the Algarve. In the ensuing months, Kate and Gerry McCann used the media to keep the case in the public eye. The Portuguese police did the same, but their efforts were directed more at casting doubts on the McCanns and their friends. Supposed sightings of Madeleine were reported periodically, but each time hopes were dashed”
THE TIMES: “Hundreds ring hotline after Madeleine plea”
Yesterday in the latest entry on his internet diary, Mr McCann wrote: “Madeleine should not be spending Christmas away from her loving family. The person who took her has it in their power to end our suffering and will be able to appease their conscience that they have done the right thing – especially at this time of year. Kate and I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to write to us and let us know Madeleine and our family are still in their thoughts and prayers. We still have at least one hundred cards to open! As always, every single one will be read and the support expressed helps renew our determination to find Madeleine”
The story, speculation and sensation…

Meejician gave a helpful response to Tony’s post, but has presumably overlooked my request for a citation to support the claim that ADHD has an identified genetic basis.
I am unable to find any paper supporting such a claim, but presumably Meejician has.
It would be good if this could be shared with us…

Tony Bennett isn’t sure that photo is from PDL and I’m in the middle of checking it myself.
I forgot that Gerry had the same t-shirt on the bus and the pool photo. In a holiday lasting 1 week I take clothes for about 10 days and know I don’t need to wash any. Considering the sport he did, I can’t imagine he’d be wearing the same sweaty clothes for multiple days. Needs more checking…
What’s the reverse speech thing all about? I remember briefly seeing it in here before but didn’t get involved with it.
***
Yep, the photos were stated to be from PDL–but are actually a red herring started by a reporter. They were taken in the kitchen in UK, most likely.
It has always bothered me that Gerry has the same shirt on his first day on the tram, and the last photo by the pool. Although there is a washing machine and dryer in the apartment, so they could have squeezed in a laundry day between jogging and tennis, I suppose.
The reverse speech is done by experts in that subject, but is a pseudo science.
They play the interviews backwards and look for any unusual speech patterns in the sounds.
Kate’s reverse speech had lots of comments on Ms hair and lots of comments on partying. Jane Tanner’s backwards speech also had comments on Kate washing M’s hair, and other weird comments concerning Ms hair.
I always follow the paranormal aspects of stories. Occassionally there’s a good story in there too.A
Aparently the McCanns are interested in pseudo science too, as they hired the fellow from South Africa. He was the one who suggested bringing in the cadaver dogs. The McCanns may not have known that these dogs were going to be used on their own belongings.
So in a round about way, the “psychic detective” did find what was left of M.

Now that there is a certain ball rolling re: ADHD let me see if I can add a bit more. ADD is Attention Deficit Disorder and children thus affected have the attention span of a goldfish, exhibit “rump restlessness” i..e. they can’t sit still and appear to squirm and wriggle and shift about all the time wherever they are. Before Resident Grandson was fully diagnosed it was not uncommon to have him squiggle about on the couch, finally ending up upside down watching the TV !! This may be OK at home but gets them into all kinds of trouble at school. The fact that they can only concentrate in small doses also gives them problems at school because once they have concentrated for “their” span, they then start to disrupt everyone around them, talking, flicking things etc etc. ADHD is when you add Hyperactivity into the equation and then you have a child that NEVER stops, they are on the go all the time, they are demanding of your attention and can drive people to violence if no help is given.
It IS genetic and is considered to pass through the male line and for this I can vouch as Resident Grandson’s father - my son - had all the problems and none of the help and thus didn’t do well at school. Hindsight being what it is, had we known what it was, we could have helped him achieve by employing the tactics and remedies, now in use.
His Father - my ex - also had it and that I feel didn’t help our relationship. Kids with this disorder also exhibit dyspraxia and dyslexia and the two other boys by the same man have these symptoms but nonetheless , have overcome and have achieved well in their lives because they recognised they were different to their classmates and had the intelligence to work harder and do something about it. Incidentally, Richard Branson is dyslexic…see what I mean ?
I still say that anyone here who professes to “know” about ADD, ADHD or any of those other conditions can only be quoting from stuff they have read, they obviously have NO personal experience whatsoever and as such should back off. Yes - I willagree diet, filling kids with “Smarties” and “Skittles” and things with additives and preservatives is just asking for trouble, I know, I’ve been there !! that is why RG has a “pure ” diet without getting too geeky about it but plain old home-cooked meat and two veg and fruit, organic if we can get it/afford it and so on and it pays off but the genetic thing is STILL THERE which I could demonstrate by keeping him on the good diet and taking away his Omega 3 which , if you know-it-alls have read up so much on it, will know that it is a well-proven aid in this case and has dramatic effects. Put it this way, if any of you are unfortunate enough to suffer “female time of the month” syndrome, try feeding her “Starflower”, see the effcets and then take it away from her for a couple of months !! I guarantee you will be down to “Boots” for the biggest pack you can find !! It’s like that.
We know, you don’t……

I read DSM-IV. The problem with all the personality disorders and behavioural disorders, is that they are diagnosed by going down a list of traits and counting if you have like 5 from 9 of them etc. From my experience, a proper diagnosis is often impossible because if you rely on a parent to tell the doctors about something, the parent will lie or exaggerate to disguise a trait or feature. Some of the traits are very subjective anyway.
One teen I know is extremely defiant and in my opinion it was all brought on by the parents spoiling this child to the extent the kid has no chores, no responsibilities etc. If the child breaks something it is immediately replaced and when it comes to being told what to do, it’s totally impossible because the person has never been told what to do. But, the medical professionals diagnose this as ODD. It isn’t ODD at all. It’s brainwashing. Let a kid have their own way all it’s childhood and you build up a storehouse of problems during the teen years and beyond. That’s why I can’t see how a gene can be responsible for this.

There are hints being dropped - don’t ask me for links as I don’t have them - that Madeleine’s body might have been brought back to the UK in a bag. This made me think of an RTE interview I had seen in June. It was on “Crimecall”, interviewer Anne Cassin. When she asked Mrs. McCann: “Why do you want think it is important to stay here in Portugal?” Mrs. McCann replied as follows:-
“I feel closer to Madeleine here … which, I mean, might be wrong…she might be closer to the UK than here…but I do feel closer to Madeleine here….etcetera. ”
“….she might be closer to the UK than here…” What a strange thing to say! Was it a slip of the tongue? Mrs. McCann’s quite good at that.
I do have a link to the video if anyone would like to see it again.

the so-called “Chinese-Restaurant-syndrome”.
______________________
You got it in one. Where I live, there’s only a few non-MSG Chinese restaurants. What’s so scary is the sheer number of foods with MSG or “Hydrolised Yeast Protein” or other variants of essentially the same chemical. It’s incredibly difficult to buy something as simple as canned soup and not find it inside. Campbell’s is the worst - I don’t believe they make any product without MSG.
It’s the same in the USA with HFS - High Fructose Corn Syrup. In the early 70s it was discovered that a cheaper process to make sugar could be used from maize instead of sugar beet or cane. Big users of sugar i.e. Coca Cola et al, save billions of dollars each year by using HFCS instead of a properly balanced sugar that doesn’t overload the liver. Again, kids are being poisoned because the big corporations are saving cents in the dollar.
Feed 300 million people highly refined products that bear more resemblance to chemicals than food and what do you expect to come out of that? Margerine is only a few molecules different than a plastic. No wonder margerine and similar spreads can keep so long - it’s because it’s not real food and has hardly any nutritional value at all.

Tony, the gene responsible for ADHD has been identified.
OK?
So it’s genetic.
OK?
_____________
Do you have references for this? What I can’t understand is that this is an acronym for several disorders. How can several be lumped together in one gene?
For instance there’s a diagnosis of ADD. Then the “H” is added (or not) depending if there’s hyperactivity present. Then there’s ODD that is additionally diagnosed with AD(H)D diagnoses. I don’t understand how one gene is responsible for multiple unrelated problems. The relationship is purely arbitrary IMO.
**************
This is purely a DSM-IV or an ICD-10 criteria issue. Separate conditions have to be diagnosed separately, which is why a lot of kids get alphabet soup.
Simply: there exists a cluster of conditions related to cognition and the outward expression of cognition - behaviour. What we know about them so far is that they are genetic in origin, and that some follow from others. For example, AD/HD mistreated or mishandled can turn to ODD or even CD. ADHD is also associated loosely with the autistic spectrum (many different genetic markers, so far no clearly identified), and a condition like DAMP (Deficits in Attention, Motor Control and Perception) also diagnosed as AD/HD+dyspraxia, is classed by some as being on the spectrum, but not by others.
AD/HD is the criteria description of both ADD and ADHD.
It’s all quite confusing. But the confusion is in the diagnostic manuals.
We’re at a transition stage in all this. It’s becoming more clear but it’s early days. My belief from the research I’m doing is that eventually we may find that many ‘personality disorders’ derive from cognitive alternatives, too.

Well that would be a shot heard ’round the world. Tend to doubt it as that would be hard to keep quiet.
However, also on the Mirror Forum, it’s claimed by a poster rated as reliable, that the blue bag is definitely already in evidence. Poster is named Coldwater, and was confirmed by another Poster called LucianDeville.
SNIP>
Just thought you all ought to know that the PJ have had the blue bag in their possession for some time. This is the bag reported missing by Gerry initially - documented by the PJ - reported by SKY and other sources and now denied by Gerry and CM. The contents of this bag are deemed interesting. The game played out prior to the arrival of the new investigating officer was purely to put added pressure on the McCann’s. The bag was NOT discovered on a beach or in a layby. The PJ are aware of this and so are the McCann’s. The fact that Rebelo moved to ’support’ the position of those asserting the truth of the tennis bag is very significant. It was NOT the bag some have seen CM carrying in an early PDL photo.

I tend to believe the bag is already in evidence.

REPLY: Not OK, Meejician, unless you supply credible sources/links. Stevo makes some good points also in Post 474. By the way, I have worked as a qualfied social worker with children said to be suffering from ADHD within the past 4 years. In the cases I saw, parental inability to give proper attention and discipline to their children was always a major factor, plus terrible diet - bottles of Coca Cola being consumed by very young children etc. Anyway, isn’t ADD short for *Attention* Deficit Disorder?

If I understand correctly what MSG is, it strongly resembles the Vet-sin used in Chinese food. People can have very strong allergic reactions to it [ fortunately mine are 'medium", but I avoid it completely now] and can even cause sudden death; the so-called “Chinese-Restaurant-syndrome”.
