Madeleine McCann: 4650 Articles, Christian Ridout Was Here And Lawless Morocco
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: Poster blitz in Morocco”
“More than 11,000 letters and posters have been distributed in remote parts of the North African country to jog the memory of someone who may have seen the little girl”
A spokesman says: “E-mail is great within larger towns and cities, but there are still a lot of people who do not have Madeleine’s picture or the phone contact details to report sightings or information”
Do you have Madeleine’s picture? Do you know the phone number?
DAILY MAIL: “Letter blitz on remote Moroccan mountain villages that Madeleine McCann campaign cannot reach”
“Agents [of Metodo 3] have distributed photographs of the little girl with an appeal in French and Arabic to call with information about her whereabouts. But it has proved difficult to reach all of the isolated communities where a child could have been taken, many of which are in lawless, mountainous regions”
Those lawless Moroccans…
“Madeleine: Private detectives hunt for British barman known as DJ Shifty, accused of grooming an under-age girl for sex”
“Part-time barman and disc jockey Christian Ridout, 32, allegedly sent the British girl obscene text messages when he worked in an expats’ pub 200 yards from where Madeleine disappeared. When the 12-year-old’s mother discovered the explicit messages, Ridout - also known as DJ Shifty - left Portugal in a hurry”
A suspect?
Says the paper: “By coincidence, the Ridout family were next-door neighbours of the family of Robert Murat, the chief suspect in the Madeleine hunt, when the Murats lived in the nearby village of Almadena. The night after Madeleine went missing, a British expat walked into the Plough and Harrow pub in Praia da Luz, still owned by his parents Tony, 57, and Jill, 58, and asked: ‘Where’s Christian then?’ Locals have disparagingly nicknamed the pub ‘The Plough and Paedophile‘ and the missing man is widely disliked in the tight-knit community”
So where is Christian? Well, he left Praia da Luz a few years ago. His mother says she has not seen him for two years. Says the girl’s mother: “I went in to see them just before Madeleine disappeared and they confirmed they’re still looking for him. ‘No one knows where he is, but he could have been back to this area”
Or not…
THE SUN front page: “Publicity blitz for Maddie in Africa”
“Many still don’t recognise her”
Help make Madeleine McCann the world’s most recognisable face
“Despite a massive campaign highlighting the seven-month search for their daughter, experts believe many in the north African country still lack the crucial information they need to help trace her”
Many?
“Now a silent army of volunteers from the Helping To Find Madeleine campaign have given their time over the festive period to flood businesses across the nation with 11,500 letters and posters”
Not so silent
“The initiative comes after the McCanns’ Spanish detective agency pin-pointed Morocco as the most likely place little Maddie may have been taken”
Can you pinpoint a “likely place” to an entire nation? Is this detective work or guesswork?
Kate and Gerry McCann are “doctors”. Fact
Kate pins on badge of hope: “ANGUISHED Kate McCann returned to church yesterday – with a badge of hope bearing a picture of missing Madeleine pinned close to her heart”
A new merchandise push?
One “worshipper” at Kate’s church says: “Every mother wants to cuddle her children at Christmas – it’s heartbreaking that Kate has been denied that. The badge is a symbol of hope that could help focus new eyes on the hunt for Madeleine”
“347 new Maddie calls combed” - The McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell says: “We are pleased with the calls and they are continuing to come in. Every single call is much appreciated and we are going through them with a fine-tooth comb. Any that need to be acted upon swiftly are being acted upon swiftly. We don’t go into detail because if there is any significant information”
DAILY STAR: “TECS: MADDIE BEING HELD IN MOROCCO”
“More than 11,500 posters appealing for information about the youngster have been sent out to the furthest reaches of the north African country”
Francisco Marco, the PI hired by the McCanns, says: “Morocco is the perfect place to hide a kidnapped girl”. He has said this before. Is Morocco the perfect place? Why not Algeria? Or Malta?
DAILY RECORD: “Maddie Poster Blitz In Morocco”
“Schools, supermarkets and medical centres are being blitzed with thousands of photos of the missing four-year-old. And letters written in French and Arabic are being sent to towns and villages in the most remote parts of the country”
Madeleine in Morocco. Or not. Again… Isabel Gonzalez saw her. Mari Pollard saw her
Clarence Mitchell says: “Anyone who puts effort into assisting us in any way, we are incredibly grateful for, and it sounds like they have done a fantastic job. I have no doubt that it is this kind of effort and initiatives that will lead us to finding Madeleine”
Gerry and Kate McCann are “doctors”
THE GUARDIAN: “From Mr Bean to Shambo the bull, the media obsessions of 2007”
A review: “Almost nine months after she vanished, we know a lot about Madeleine McCann and her family. We know the legal implications of being named an official suspect in a Portuguese criminal investigation. What we do not know is who took her, if she is alive and whether any trace of her will ever be found again. A total of 4,650 articles have appeared in British newspapers since she disappeared on May 3”
THE SCOTSMAN: “Madness, badness, hate and heroism - Robert McNeil continues his unique take on the events of 2007 with a look back at the second three months of the year…”
“Hell also visited the parents of three-year-old Madeleine McCann on 3 May when the toddler disappeared from their holiday apartment in the Algarve. In the ensuing months, Kate and Gerry McCann used the media to keep the case in the public eye. The Portuguese police did the same, but their efforts were directed more at casting doubts on the McCanns and their friends. Supposed sightings of Madeleine were reported periodically, but each time hopes were dashed”
THE TIMES: “Hundreds ring hotline after Madeleine plea”
Yesterday in the latest entry on his internet diary, Mr McCann wrote: “Madeleine should not be spending Christmas away from her loving family. The person who took her has it in their power to end our suffering and will be able to appease their conscience that they have done the right thing – especially at this time of year. Kate and I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to write to us and let us know Madeleine and our family are still in their thoughts and prayers. We still have at least one hundred cards to open! As always, every single one will be read and the support expressed helps renew our determination to find Madeleine”
The story, speculation and sensation…

i think some of what you propose is happening already - albeit low key
i have noticed an increase in tabloid stories about neglectful parents
some of them are just to get sympathy for the wretched skinny one
“my kid was missing for 30 seconds so i feel for the holy fragrantess having no daughter for 7 months” etc
but some of them are actually pointing out that it is wrong to leave kids unsupervised
and that the law may come down on you and punish you for doing it
low key so far but i believe the increase in these stories is a direct result of the mcconn scam story

What did they do with their little Maddie, she is certainly dead, but the FUND must be kept alive at all costs. Thet rely on that fund to keep their sad asses fed. Before they went to PDL they were in deep financial trouble.

Mrs Bounty
I have been a mother for 16 years now and have 4 children.
Those early years when they were all small are the most treasured and happy times in my life.
Especially the first seaside holidays when we would be up at 6.30
looking for crabs and pools in the sand, watching their little faces concentrate and go wide eyed with every new discovery, the whole holiday was about them, I think they went to 2 day time organised child care facillities per holiday.
We went to the kids evening discos dancing to all the crap dances, just to see their faces in awe of the lights and the buzz of the dance floor.
We were not alone, there were hundreds of fathers looking sheepish doing the “macerena” with his 3 small kiddies, embarrased but wouldnt miss it for the world. As they knew it was these memories for the kids that mattered, not what the table of women giggling at his antics!
The parents all shared a bond.
You’d smile at the mother who had a double buggy full of balloons and kids asleep and help her with the door, and the father who had two tired toddlers in a firemans lift trying to get out before “AGADOO” was played AGAIN!!
It might have only been 8 o clock in the evening, but you were knackered, and putting the kids down and sharing a bottle of wine and watching the sun go down was seemingly boring, but a perfect ending
to a days holiday.
We have done it for years …………..
Now 2 are teenagers and sit there po faced earphones in and teenagers angst spread across their whole body, arms folded legs akimbo.
Asking for alcopops and going off with the hump.
I remember those times and smile, as like the terrible 2s it is only a phase.
I would imagine going from most people I talk to, this is an average and normal take on parenting nowadays. Some are more organic, some are slightly more selfish and book babysitters and go out alone, some are probably more chaotic, but none have I met anything like the DRs or the Tappas9!!!!!
They are thank fully a rare breed!

CORREIO DE MANHA TODAY
Investigation: The process will not be completed in January [preliminary translation]
Public Prosecutor wants the extension of the secrecy of justice
+++++++++++++++++++
The Public Prosecutor will ask for the extension of the secrecy of justice in Madeleine’s case.
On January 3 eight months are completed since the disappearance and, after that period, the process should become public. Source linked to the investigation confirmed to the CM that “it is likely that the Prosecutor will ask for an extension.”
Presently, it is more than certain that the investigation will not be completed in January - the rogatory letters are still in Portugal - and neither the PJ, nor the Prosecutor wants the information already included in the process till now to become public before the end of the investigation.
“After the period of eight months, the Code of Criminal Procedure (CPP) provides for the possibility of a request to postpone the lifting of the secrecy of justice for three months,” explained a source of the Public Prosecutor to the CM. “The criminal judge, then, may, or not, approve the request,” says the same source.
If confirmed , the request of the MP and the approval by the judge, Madeleine’s case should only become public in April 3rd. At that date the process can then be consulted.
There is also a second possibility of extension, after finishing those three months. For that the Prosecutor would have to apply for a term “objectively appropriate and necessary for the completion of the investigation,” continues the source of the Public Prosecutor.
However, according to the new code, this second extension only applies to cases of terrorism or highly organized crime, with conducts that involve crimes of conspiracy, trafficking of persons, arms smuggling, drug trafficking, corruption, trafficking of influences or money laundering. So far, Madeleine’s case has not been classified as any of these crimes.
Source linked to the research assured, however,to the CM that “the rogatory letters are about to be sent to England.” They were initially scheduled to be sent last week but the same source explained that “is a complicated process because it involves the translation of documents in legal terms.”
There is not still a precise date to send the letters where the Judiciary Police defines the questions and what people will be questioned on British soil.
DETAILS: BLUE BAG
The disappearance of a blue bag from the apartment where the McCanns spent holidays, now revealed by Gerry, was investigated by PJ at the beginning of the case.
DETAILS: PAEDOPHILES
Source linked to the investigation assured to the CM that all English pedophiles who were in Portugal in May 3rd were investigated and cleared.

Garth, lucid as ever.
However the McCanns have been “trying to get through to the numbskull PJ that their child was taken”, they’ve not been able to do it in a way that convinces the PJ, or the contributors to this forum, or (probably) a majority of the British public.
The PJ, as all police forces, are far more experienced in dealing with distraught/bereaved parents, as well as criminals, liars and other unsavoury individuals than you or I. They still suspect the McCanns. This will not be without strong foundation - they have had many opportunities to drop or mothball this case and have not done so.
For Madeleine’s sake, let’s all hope they see it through, however it resolves itself.

Totally endorse your aims. Also feel schools should be compelled to offer some kind of activity every day to help children use up surplus energy. Of course, now so many schools have sold off playing fields, I can see the difficulty in accomplishing this goal.
Teachers are stressed by children’s behaviour and curriculum targets, yet the number of children leaving school either illiterate or ill educated has never been higher. Even those who have achieved within the boundaries appear to have lower lower standards at University level than was the case a few decades ago.
If we didn’t live in such a materialistic and unbalanced world, more mothers would be able to stay at home with their children during the crucial developmental years, and at least be home when they came out of school.
Have come to the conclusion we do need “A Common Purpose”, but I guess my agenda would be rather different from that contemplated by those attempting a new world order!

this talk of tacky bets is amusing
perhaps a “close friend” of their fragrant holinesses could put a bet on for them
instant way of raising some cash, after all
bet half a million on a dead cert and bingo…
let’s see…
half a million quid at 100 to one on the body is at the bottom of a well at (fill in the blank)…
50 million smackers pronto and no mistake
doh…
but that means they have the body and the mcconns go to jail without collecting the 50 million

As you well know, we rely on much more than official sources for our conviction that the McCanns and their ‘Tapas 9′ colleagues were either involved in Madeleine’s ‘disappearance’ or then covering it up - or both.
You have seen on this forum the list of ‘19 reasons for doubting the abduction claim’, but you don’t engage with any of those powerful arguments.
Do you?
But far be it from me to combat the powerful psychological force known as ‘denial’ which entraps you in the belief that, against all the evidence we have seen and heard, Madeleine was abducted

No.
At the risk of gross oversimplification each bet involves the participants in taking opposing views on the probability of an event happening.
So for everyone betting on the McCanns being charged in the New Year there is someone else betting that they will not be charged in the same period.
Difficult to see how this could be prejudicial…

Yes, the police usually investigate the parents first. The Spanish Civil Guard said on the radio that, in the Yeremi Vargas case, they had investigated around 50 people, including the whole family, the people at his school, gymnasium (he did some kind of martial art I think), etc., etc., plus 60 known paedophiles.

Lyn, Have to disagree when you state “Very rarely do the parents come under suspicion”.
It is undoubtedly the opposite - parents are almost always the principal suspects. The horrid McC’s refusal to acknowledge this is part of what raises the alarm.
“Normal” parents in such a situation may not enjoy being suspects but common sense and experience dictates that they should be so. The McCs (or their spokesperson) have constantly refused to acknowledge this, thus arguing that the vile McCs are in some way “special” or even “saintly”.

Absolute bollocks mate.
The McCanns have been trying to get through to the numbskull PJ that their child was taken. They have been given a description of someone carrying her away. The PJ choose to disbelieve it. So in their minds (bearing in mind they have no reason to doubt Tanner) she was taken. Saintly and special as you call it are just your hangups.

This is why I am considering, together with others, how we can ensure that there is some permanent memorial to Madeleiene so that she did not die in vain. She holds so many lessons for us. Among them I would list:
1. Never leave young children on their own - which I would like to become a slogan for an attempt to tighten up the law on child neglect - a sort of ‘Madeleine’s Law’
2. Spend as much time as you can with your children when they’re under 5. *Don’t* put them in creches too early. *Don’t* go off on weekend conferences all the time leaving your wife in charge of them
3. Use a babysitter who knows the child well if you want to go out and have a good time for the evening
4. (To all police forces worldwide) If any parent claims their child has been abducted, treat them as potential suspects from the very first second you get that report. Start searching by all means, but don’t forget that the overwhelming majority of children who are said to have been abductedd from a home turn out to have been killed by a family member
December 27th, 2007 at 10:37 am
