The Correio da Manha newspaper “claimed Kate and Gerry, of Rothley, Leics, could be charged with perjury and wasting police time”
But don’t the police waste enough of that themselves?
“They have been warned by their legal team they may have to go to the European Court of Human Rights to get their arguido status lifted”
Human rights? What of Madeleine’s rights?

When mr Murat became an arguido wasn’t [imo] because the pj wanted to keep him silenced. I guess the PJ thought they had a reason to suspect him [whether it was the witnesses/press/political influence or other reasons]. It might be they KEEP him an arguido to keep him silent. I don’t know. On the other hand as an translator he signed [as far as I know] already a statement to keep everything confidential. If the PJ wanted to remove this status as arguido and keep him silence, I guess they could offer thim a sort of “trade”, don’t you think so?

I think Robert Murat has been effectively silenced with his arguido status. The PJ did not want to run the risk of him blabbing about what he had heard earlier in the investigation to the media. IMHO naturally.
