Madeleine McCann: 20 Years Of Fury, Kate And Gerry McCann Prime Suspects, Robert Murat Says Nothing
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY MIRROR front page: “YOU’RE STILL PRIME SUSPECTS – McCanns’ fury at police chief warning”
“Kate and Gerry McCann were furious last night after learning they are still prime suspects in daughter Madeleine’s disappearance”
It is now the 105th time Kate and Gerry have reacted with fury of been furious in a tabloid setting
“The couple’s hopes of being cleared today were crushed when police chief Paulo Rebelo asked a judge to extend their arguido status because detectives are sticking to their belief that they accidentally killed the four-year-old”
This was predictable. Robert Murat also remains a suspect
Says McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell: “They are frustrated and angry. Frustrated because, yet again, there appears to be no movement in the case when they know they are innocent. They will continue to push for their arguido status to be lifted”
The Correio da Manha newspaper “claimed Kate and Gerry, of Rothley, Leics, could be charged with perjury and wasting police time”
But don’t the police waste enough of that themselves?
“They have been warned by their legal team they may have to go to the European Court of Human Rights to get their arguido status lifted”
Human rights? What of Madeleine’s rights?
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE - McCANNS ARE MAIN SUSPECTS SAY POLICE”
“Kate and Gerry McCann were dealt a crushing blow last night when a police report accused them of killing their daughter Madeleine”
Says a friend: “They are not the prime suspects. As we understand it, the report talks about the police’s continued belief that Madeleine died accidentally in the apartment and that is why Kate and Gerry remain arguidos. It also talks about Robert Murat remaining an arguido and it discusses the possibility of her being abducted. Well, they can’t have it both ways”
No..?
Says Clarence Mitchell: “Throughout 2007 we have declined to comment on speculation in the Portuguese press. We will follow the same policy in 2008. If this report is true, however, and this interim police report exists, then we believe it contains nothing new. It is simply a restatement of the current position of the police. And we note that it not only discusses Kate and Gerry as arguidos, but also continues to name Mr Murat as an arguido. Crucially it also accepts the possibility that abduction took place”
The green shoots of hope…
THE SUN front page: “McCANN AGONY GOES ON – 246 after Maddie vanished, cops name Kate and Gerry as…PRIME SUSPECTS”
“ANGUISHED Kate and Gerry McCann are facing up to living as suspects over their daughter’s disappearance for another TWENTY years, it emerged yesterday”
Maybe…
Kate and Gerry are “both 39-year-old doctors”
Fact!
DAILY MAIL: “Police ’still think McCanns killed Madeleine by accident’ - and they will be suspects for 20 years”
“A secret police dossier has accused Kate and Gerry McCann of accidentally killing their daughter and hiding her body, it was claimed yesterday. The couple faked four-year-old Madeleine’s abduction, according to a leaked report on the eight-month police investigation”
Lawyer Edward Smethurst, who is co-ordinating the McCanns’ defence, says: “Any report about the leaked document we believe is completely without substance. We think it arises out of pure speculation on the part of the Portuguese papers”
Kate and Gerry McCann are “doctors”
THE SCOTSMAN: “Madeleine’s parents could be under suspicion for 20 years, says judge”
“The prospect of the case dragging on for years was reinforced yesterday by the president of the National Union of Portuguese Judges, Antonio Martins, who said: ‘No-one knows what type of crime was committed. If it was homicide, the investigation can only be shelved after 20 years; if it was kidnap, 15 years’”
On we go…
THE OBSERVER: “After a year in which the torment of Madeleine McCann’s family has dominated the British media, the trials of the Lees - and the hope the new image has given them - seem particularly acute”
The story: “Katrice disappeared on her second birthday from a supermarket in Germany, where her father was serving as a soldier. Her mother turned away for a few moments to fetch a pack of crisps for the girl’s party and when she looked back Katrice was gone”
Twenty six years ago…
FOX NEWS: “Missing Madeleine McCann: Irish Witness ‘Clears’ Murat”
Says Martin Smith, who was on holiday in Praia da Luz: “I told police it was definitely not him because the man wasn’t as big as Murat - I think I would have recognised him because I’d met him several times previously. He was wearing beige trousers and a darker top. We all put him in his early 40s and I didn’t think he was Portuguese”

An Editorial Intelligence monitoring woman is an ex business partner of Sarah Brown, Gordon Brown’s wife. This is why Goron Brown became more involved than he would have wished to. The woman whose name escapes me but who is currently monitoring all these comment sites probably said, ‘Ill phone a friend…..’ and rang Sarah who probably said something like, ‘Gordon, I don’t think we’ll be here long anyway and I’ve got this mate I used to be in business with who needs some consular help because she’s in a big gang of influential doctors who know things about thing that we don’t even know about and it’s really bad because there are that many complex things that they are all into that nobody knows about - it could really mess things up for the Labour Party that you have worked so hard to achieve all these years……… And you know how we ousted Tony and Cherie………’

Bet the ‘star’, Syd Little, was just dying to shout out, “The PJ are behind you” or “Oh, yes you did - it.”
(Wasn’t Barrymore going to do that panto? Ooops – silly me, he did ‘Aladin’ a while ago – allegedly.)

Madeleine McCann’s parents attend Southport Theatre panto
Jan 4 2008
by Joanne Kelly, ‘Southport Visiter’
QUOTE
PARENTS of missing toddler Madeleine McCann called in to see a pantomime in Southport on Wednesday night, with their twins.
Kate and Gerry McCann, with Madeleine’s two-year-old siblings Sean and Amelie, visited the Aladdin panto at Southport Theatre.
Staff at the show, which stars Syd Little and Lisa Riley, were told the family would be coming before the performance.
They were told the couple and their children, who live in Rothley, Leicestershire, would be in the audience, but not to discuss it.
A behind-the-scenes source said the McCanns were there to watch one of the dancers from Formby, who is a relative.

Aladdin? Wasn’t that about someone who disappeared in a puff of smoke(screen)?
“She’s been abducted!” - Kate and Gerry
“Oh no she hasn’t” - general public
“Oh yes she has” - Team McCann

I think thats right. But the ’star’ system used to keep Madeleine from their bedroom and the comments he apparently made about considering himslef lucky at being able to enjoy dinner without his children make me angry. These things are like something from a Dickensian past.
When considered alongside their statements inferring…’we are so good and loving you couldnt possdibly understand the depth of the adoration and the bonds we have between ourselves and between us and our children’….yuk!
I think it makes them bad.

My aunt is 87. At the last elections, for the first time in her life she didn’t vote Labour because she felt she couldn’t vote for Tony Blair after he had gone into Iraq. She voted for a local party with no chance of getting a seat because she feels she must always vote because of what the suffragettes went through in order for women to be able to vote.
I wonder what she’ll do next time.

I’m in a generous mood today.
I’m assuming it was all a horrible accident that, once Gerry got Media Addiction, snowballed into typical celebrity-style train-wreck.

Did you knew what Brown had done ,to some Brits cops , involved in this case ?
January 4th, 2008 at 1:05 pm
Manipulating the Press and police here in the UK is one thing but I am non-plussed as to why these two have not been arrested, charged and tried for abandonment of their kids in Portugal.
Football supporters are arrested, charged and imprisoned wherever they cause a fuss. WHAT is it about these two luvvies that prevents their scraggy arses being stuffed into a Potuguse prison?
I am really frustrated as to WHY they are being let off for what the Portuguese law says is a very serious crime with an approx 3 year penalty. All the Tapas buddies should be deported immediately and scattered over as many jails in Portugal as possible.
What is it about ‘Brits abroad’. How much damage is this doing in the eyes of the Portuguese police and people. Scary! Spooky!

246 Cant Say No The spin doctors in London said that they were not happy with Gordon Brown’s leadership and that there might be a leadership contest in May 2008. David Miliband would be a strong contender for the post as PM. Perhaps if Gordon Brown resigns he might be in a position to reveal more about those telephone calls he had with the McCanns when he was chancellor in May/June 2007.

“Can anyone enlighten me on the Devon connection? Am I correct in thinking that sniffer dogs picked up a scent in a property in Devon? Could this house possibly be the one that the Murats inherited after Robert Murats grandmother died?… Has anyone got any further info on press reports covering cadaver dogs in Devon?”
REPLY: There was a report in the ‘Daily Telegraph’ and at least one other newspaper in October that the cadaver dogs from South Yorkshire Police had sniffed the smell of death on an article of clothing removed from a house in Devon. As fas as I’m aware, those reports were never put online

244 Can’t say no
Yeah - I got that. So my conclusion would be that they must have evidence they can’t use in court. Assuming Mr. Carvalho is right, of course.
January 4th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
I think the case is highly complex in terms of the applicable laws.
The McCanns may have committed several crimes of which murder is the least likely.
Perverting the course of justice seems a no brainer, as is neglect with the right lawyers - its so incredibly revealing that they put in place a legal team way back at the beginning, they knew they were going to need them! Damning to have immediately put in place an extradition lawyer too.
Clearly they responded to public pressure and the need for PR by employing the now discreditted ‘detectives’. Another big McCann mistake! It just shows that money doesnt buy intellect or good judgement - especially when you employ a media circus ringmaster! Someone should overrule the idiot male McCann.
I’m still waiting for the tabloids to remember the claim made by those detectives - how they know where she is and who has her and she’ll be home by Christmas.
Someone needs to tell them to stop using ‘fury’ too! Over usage seems to be there trademark.
