Madeleine McCann: 20 Years Of Fury, Kate And Gerry McCann Prime Suspects, Robert Murat Says Nothing
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY MIRROR front page: “YOU’RE STILL PRIME SUSPECTS – McCanns’ fury at police chief warning”
“Kate and Gerry McCann were furious last night after learning they are still prime suspects in daughter Madeleine’s disappearance”
It is now the 105th time Kate and Gerry have reacted with fury of been furious in a tabloid setting
“The couple’s hopes of being cleared today were crushed when police chief Paulo Rebelo asked a judge to extend their arguido status because detectives are sticking to their belief that they accidentally killed the four-year-old”
This was predictable. Robert Murat also remains a suspect
Says McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell: “They are frustrated and angry. Frustrated because, yet again, there appears to be no movement in the case when they know they are innocent. They will continue to push for their arguido status to be lifted”
The Correio da Manha newspaper “claimed Kate and Gerry, of Rothley, Leics, could be charged with perjury and wasting police time”
But don’t the police waste enough of that themselves?
“They have been warned by their legal team they may have to go to the European Court of Human Rights to get their arguido status lifted”
Human rights? What of Madeleine’s rights?
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE - McCANNS ARE MAIN SUSPECTS SAY POLICE”
“Kate and Gerry McCann were dealt a crushing blow last night when a police report accused them of killing their daughter Madeleine”
Says a friend: “They are not the prime suspects. As we understand it, the report talks about the police’s continued belief that Madeleine died accidentally in the apartment and that is why Kate and Gerry remain arguidos. It also talks about Robert Murat remaining an arguido and it discusses the possibility of her being abducted. Well, they can’t have it both ways”
No..?
Says Clarence Mitchell: “Throughout 2007 we have declined to comment on speculation in the Portuguese press. We will follow the same policy in 2008. If this report is true, however, and this interim police report exists, then we believe it contains nothing new. It is simply a restatement of the current position of the police. And we note that it not only discusses Kate and Gerry as arguidos, but also continues to name Mr Murat as an arguido. Crucially it also accepts the possibility that abduction took place”
The green shoots of hope…
THE SUN front page: “McCANN AGONY GOES ON – 246 after Maddie vanished, cops name Kate and Gerry as…PRIME SUSPECTS”
“ANGUISHED Kate and Gerry McCann are facing up to living as suspects over their daughter’s disappearance for another TWENTY years, it emerged yesterday”
Maybe…
Kate and Gerry are “both 39-year-old doctors”
Fact!
DAILY MAIL: “Police ’still think McCanns killed Madeleine by accident’ - and they will be suspects for 20 years”
“A secret police dossier has accused Kate and Gerry McCann of accidentally killing their daughter and hiding her body, it was claimed yesterday. The couple faked four-year-old Madeleine’s abduction, according to a leaked report on the eight-month police investigation”
Lawyer Edward Smethurst, who is co-ordinating the McCanns’ defence, says: “Any report about the leaked document we believe is completely without substance. We think it arises out of pure speculation on the part of the Portuguese papers”
Kate and Gerry McCann are “doctors”
THE SCOTSMAN: “Madeleine’s parents could be under suspicion for 20 years, says judge”
“The prospect of the case dragging on for years was reinforced yesterday by the president of the National Union of Portuguese Judges, Antonio Martins, who said: ‘No-one knows what type of crime was committed. If it was homicide, the investigation can only be shelved after 20 years; if it was kidnap, 15 years’”
On we go…
THE OBSERVER: “After a year in which the torment of Madeleine McCann’s family has dominated the British media, the trials of the Lees - and the hope the new image has given them - seem particularly acute”
The story: “Katrice disappeared on her second birthday from a supermarket in Germany, where her father was serving as a soldier. Her mother turned away for a few moments to fetch a pack of crisps for the girl’s party and when she looked back Katrice was gone”
Twenty six years ago…
FOX NEWS: “Missing Madeleine McCann: Irish Witness ‘Clears’ Murat”
Says Martin Smith, who was on holiday in Praia da Luz: “I told police it was definitely not him because the man wasn’t as big as Murat - I think I would have recognised him because I’d met him several times previously. He was wearing beige trousers and a darker top. We all put him in his early 40s and I didn’t think he was Portuguese”

Hideki may have been too extreme but he/she made some very good points many of which I think came a bit too close to the truth for comfort. Perhaps this is why he/she has been banned. The subjects referred to that made some feel uncomfortable, may be relevant to the case and now of course many will be too scared to mention them. This is a pity as, however unpleasant, certain topics should be up for discussion, albeit in a more restrained form.

If you had actually bothered to look back at the post in which the Admin explained his action you would know that you are talking garbage.
I appreciate, of course, that doing some basic research before sounding off is a step some people feel uncomfortable with…

PSSST! This is a secret - The police want K’s diary because they are aware that she wrote it so that she could recall the parts where she told lies. When time passes - it is very easy to forget something that you made up in the first place . By jotting notes down on a day to day basis you re-live each day and constantly re-read it - every bed-time!
This makes the brain believe that you actually did what you said you wrote. This makes false memory syndrome very real to the person that is telling lies.
This is an age-old spy technique used in Her Majesty’s Secret Service and I don’t mean the f*cking film! lol

Moriarty:
Just a feeling from where you were wondering who I was. Don’t be paranoid on Anorak - you cannot be traced. There are terrorists out there not being monitored so why would anybody be monitoring us?
Except for the Editorial Intelligence agencies.
I have it first-hand that Anorak threads are honestly good bed-time reading for the powers-that-be because of the readership of red-tops and broad-sheets. Quick opinions give them the public mood. These are the people that say what day we go to war for Christ’s sake.
They will say when certain McClan stories can be revealed - but more importantly - when they can’t!
January 5th, 2008 at 12:22 am
Well, night night all, I’m off to watch a movie and fall asleep before then end!
Not too much nonsense to sleep off tonight, apart from the madness which descended earlier (conspiracy theorising about the safety of posting on Anorak gone mad!) nobody has been too nasty today (well, not to me - even Garth was only a little heavily sarcastic at me!).

Maria is not as rattled as the other pro-McCanns have been today. Let her catch up, she’ll soon adjust to the current position.
Maria, Clarence has admitted inconsistancies in statements today and is saying the McCanns and especially their friends are keen to discuss them with the PJ.
A friend of the McCanns has said that they are only ’suspects’ because the PJ think Madeleine died in the apartment - that Robert Murat being still suspect means that the PJ still consider ’stranger abduction’ to be a possibility. They seem to be accepting that these two issues can be mutually exclusive. I think they are misisng a vital point, if she died in the apartment and this is based on finding blood in the apartment, the window of opportunity isnt big enough to allow a clean up by stranger!
Getting interesting isnt it.

Hear, hear!
And to all… nice to see the Anoraki in fine form again… after a series of rather dearthful days of less than 500 posts each.
It’s a pity that we all turn on each other in times of thin news, but perhaps that is a requirement of free speech!

After all your observations on the folly of believing the tabloids, I’m a bit surprised that you now apparently believe that the Mail has privileged access to the PJ’s plans.
Perhaps a glass of cold water would help…

967 Hi Maria
Yes there are sure to be good reasons, if only to remind us how totally incredible the idea of a mother actually washing the toy of a recently missing child is! Whats the most obvious reason one can think of? Because its dirty? The most prized possession has been allowed to get dirty, odd in itself, but the idea of washing off the smell of ones child, a palpable connection with that child, the idea of risking damage to the item, ludicrous in the extreme. Maybe to remove more than dirt, to remove something a little more specific? Now there’s a thought.
The ramblings of a woman in grief - written before or after an event - likely to be equally revealing (I’d love a look, as would you if you are honest with yourself!).
A religious person underlining something of particular comfort to them in the book of their faith could be very revealing, especially someone with their faith suddenly and drammatically reborn.
Dont forget, they have been after this stuff for months, remember? They had to convince the judge that there was a case to answer and the evidence would be relevant?
Could it be that he has been persuaded?
So if you are really yawning, I suggest you go and have a little rest, to be the better refreshed to have another think about the relevance and the timing when you awaken!

Moriarty has sussed me out as some kind of plant. Could he think that I am a Triffid from a John Wyndham novel? Don’t let me near the sea or a beach or I may shrivel up and die! lol

Wasn’t the bible given to KM by someone (clergyman, maybe?) in PDL? Would she have taken her bible on holiday with her? Luggage weight restrictions??!! Suppose someone could have brought it from home later.

The Gideons? Do they operate in non-english speaking countries? Does anyone know? Can someone do some research? You may be on to something here. well spotted

Hard working day! Nevertheless, I always have one eye in Anorak.. Good to know that they have “fury, anger, upset… ” I would say that this long “agony” is a better punishment that any other. They are about to “find” their lovely daughter but, the detectives company fails… They are about to be cleared but, the PJ manages to involve them for a 20 years period…
Their agony goes on and goes on… Their energies fall day by day. Since when our Gerry doesn’t show his literature skills in his blog? Hurra for the PJ!
Ta luego! (as FAIR says here). “Hasta luego” is the correct written version, but it sounds that way: ta luego!

???????!!!!!!!!!!!???????????!!!!!!!!!!!
NOW???!!!!
I also understood it was GM’s sister Philomena who has suggested KM keep a diary. The article says it was a the trauma counsellor.
So, which is true? Or both?
Either way it dates from after the disappearance of the child, I think? Either way, is it really likely to contain incriminating evidence? Either way, are there likely to be references in it to a hyperactive child and KM not being able to cope?
YAWN.
I thought the cat had been examined by forensics before it was washed? Or so I “read somewhere”!!! Could be wrong.
YAWN.
Wasn’t the bible given to KM by someone (clergyman, maybe?) in PDL? Would she have taken her bible on holiday with her? Luggage weight restrictions??!! Suppose someone could have brought it from home later.
What on earth are they hoping to discover NOW?
(I do realise stuff can be discovered even years later but I’m a bit surprised that it has taken so long for these things to be looked at again. Could it be…..perish the thought…..that there might be inaccuracies in the report?)
Will now look at all your posts and discover what I SHOULD be thinking about all this!
