Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manha reports: “The definitive result of the tests leave no doubts for the Policia Judiciaria. The blood found in the McCanns’ car is that of Madeleine as well as those samples detected in the flat”
No doubt? So says a newspaper report that provides the basis to THE WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPER’S lead story
Says McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell: “These reports are very distressing for Kate and Gerry, they are depressed that again wild rumour and speculation is being presented as fact. We wish Portuguese police would just get on with their investigation, come over to England and carry out the interviews with Kate and Gerry and their friends. All those interviews will prove, yet again, that Kate and Gerry have nothing to hide.
“As for the supposed DNA testing, we cannot comment on yet more unsubstantiated rampant speculation in the Portuguese press. It is ridiculous to suggest that Madeleine’s blood was in the hire car because she was never in it. It was hired more than 20 days after she went missing, which means it was impossible for her to have ever been in it”
A friend of the McCanns says: “They were in no way involved in her disappearance, reports like this just add to their anguish. We would also point out that low copy DNA is under review by police forces in this country following the outcome of the Omagh bombing trial”
But it is a sign of police progress, right?

The Forensic Laboratory in Birmingham says: “Tests are still being carried out. No final report has been submitted to the Portuguese authorities”

“But they come from low-copy DNA analysis – a controversial technique based on just a few human cells which was recently branded unreliable by UK police. Last month, Omagh bomb suspect Sean Hoey walked free after a judge decided this type of testing was not at a sufficiently scientific level to be considered evidence. The Association of Chief Police Officers then announced it was suspending use of the technique in criminal inquiries. And the Crown Prosecution Service in England and Wales is reviewing a number of cases in which it was involved. That means the results in Madeleine’s case could probably never be used in court”

I expect everything has been said about “Maddy The Movie” already. Another coup for Clarrie. The Daily Mail comments (my barometer of public opinion) seem to be almost 100% negative, which is a pretty impressive result… Whatever next? Breath-taking stuff.

Question - TB’s case was refused due to it being a Portugese case. If the McC’s are charged, would the ‘trial’ be in the UK or Portugal?
If Portugal, would the current ‘review’ of the low copy DNA have any bearing in Portugal?

On the other hand, the Cannings’ children were examined very, very carefully indeed; that makes rather a difference.
The Court of Appeal judgement is lengthy, but well worth reading if you want to know the precise facts.
And there is no way that the McCanns would be able to get similar remarks made about them…

Remigius, have you seen “Perfect Murder, Perfect Town”, the JonBenet Ramsey movie? The German title was “Was geschah in Boulder?” Kris Kristofferson played detective Smit. It wasn’t a real good movie, but somehow fascinating, wasn’t it?

Alas, I don’t know. The Evening Standard story which referred to a number of resignations, has been substantially altered over the course of today and now says:
‘Mr Mitchell confirmed reports that one of the directors of the fund, former GMTV presenter Esther McVey, had resigned from the board, but denied it was because of any rift with the McCanns.
He said she wanted to concentrate on her role as a Conservative parliamentary candidate and was also about to start studying for a demanding MBA qualification.
“She has a lot of commitments and realised she could not devote the time she wanted to the fund,” he said.
“She felt the New Year would be a good time for the change, and spoke to Kate about her decision.
“Kate and Gerry were disappointed but they both understood her reasons. She is an old friend of Kate’s and continues to support the fund.”
Mr Mitchell said other directors might also want to “rotate” their position on the board, as it had created a lot more work than was originally anticipated in May.’
Right. And Glenfield hospital wants one of its senior staff, Director of Cardiology, to be raising funds for the personal expenses of another member of staff, instead of funds for the hospital..

you know, so many people said the same thing about the Ramseys and JonBenet. patsy Ramsey was described as very protective. John Ramsey was often absent, but witnesses agreed that JonBenet adored her father. She was well-nourished, although in one beauty pageant photograph, one could see something that looked like bruises on her arm…
there was some mention of Patsy Ramsey discussing JonBenet’s “incontinence” with concerned friends, but never any open question of her becoming violent about it…until JonBenet turned up dead, her underwear soaked in urine but her bedsheets dry….
Abuse can be so subtle, so secretive.
Or one could never have abused a child, and just suddenly go crazy, or have some motive that’s new…Alice Crimmins, a woman whose two children were allegedly abducted from their Queens apartment and later found dead, was a case in point. It was a good long while ago. Her trial was quite a story. I shall have to look it up again, so as not to make an error in talking about it, but most people could not believe she herself had done the foul deeds. But she did have a boyfriend some described as a mobster, or with such connections….

catkidd, Here’s a clue for you I am from Vancouver, I am 6′ 4″ and weigh 102 kilos, I married a beautiful Danish girl 35 years ago. We have six grown up offspring and seventeen grandchildren, sorry to disappoint you, but I have never been fortunate enough to visit The Emerald Isle yet but I shall one day.
