“Riddled with guilt, the distraught” Gerry will tell all to the Mirror. Well, not to the Mirror, rather to Vanity Fair magazine. Journalist Judy Bachrach spoke with Gerry in October near the family home in Rothley, Leicestershire
And the interview is not with Gerry and Kate. Only Gerry McCann was interviewed, says the Mail. Kate McCann’s words come via friends and family
Pages 4 and 5: “I WISH”.
It reads very much like a prayer, or a camping speech by Barack Obama. Says Gerry McCann:
“I wish I hadn’t gone to the tapas bar.
“I wish I’d have stayed in the apartment that night
“I wish I’d stayed in the room when I checked on her five minutes longer”
A wish…
Says Gerry McCann: “”At the time we did it, it was not irresponsible. Of course we feel guilty about not having been there and that is just something we have to deal with for the rest of our lives. You are not asking anything we don’t think about on a daily basis. We live this 24 hours a day”
Gerry says his world went “all black, with maybe tiny points of light” in the days after Madeleine vanished. “We can’t cry our eyes out every day because that’s not helping. So after three days I picked myself up…quicker than Kate could. Grief washes over you. It’s like a big wave, mostly I was able to beat it back”
And the Madeleine ‘Look into my eyes’ campaign? Says Gerry: “We thought it was possible this could hurt her. Her abductor might do something to her eye. But in marketing terms it was a good ploy”
THE SUN: “Life’s bleak but I cling to hope”
Says Gerry McCann: “People can support you in your darkest hours and in our case the darkest hour was of course when Madeleine went missing. Now it is just bleak”
In next month’s Vanity Fair: “The interview with Gerry came as it emerged GORDON BROWN has snubbed the McCanns’ request for a meeting; furious Kate EXPLODED when cops first told her she was a suspect; and family spokesman Clarence Mitchell has given a university SPEECH on the topic Missing Maddie McCann — the perfect PR campaign

Will he tell all? Mr McCann tells Vanity Fair’s Judy Bachrach: “I can’t talk to you about the details of what happened. I live under threat from the Portuguese - if I do talk - of two years’ imprisonment”

I thought of the sedatives too. Suppose one parent gives sedatives, and the other doesn’t know and gives some too, or, being a bit drunk and in a hurry, they don’t give twice, but they give a lot. But I read on a Spanish file by a doctor on the internet that children would very rarely die from an overdose of sedatives. And such a theory doesn’t account for the blood. I also read the PJ found a seryng (I don’t know how to spell it) in the flat. It didn’t say what stuff was in it.
About the friends helping, if there was a a cover up, they may never have thought the case would become so famous, and a lie would take them that deep into problems. The same way as they lacked imagination to anticipate the possible consequences when they left the children alone, they didn’t foresee the consequences of a lie. Maybe they were underestimating the PJ. They were holidaying with a happy-go-lucky attitude. They had to make up their mind very quickly on what side they were. (They don’t seem very mature to me). Once they started lying and thousands of people watched them, changing their story must be very hard, all they did was stick to the story and hope. It’s a weak explanation, not satisfying I know, but I was talking with a police investigator about something different, and he told me “normal people who don’t get into problems always search for rational explanations, but people who get into problems usually aren’t rational, it is difficult for sensible people to understand why they act in certain ways”.
I have read that in G and K MC couple, the strongest, (or toughest ?), is definitely K.

REPLY: I think it was a ‘vision’ with bright light at the end of a tunnel.
My interpretation: he hoped to hide away his deeds in a (metaphoric) tunnel - but has come out in to the PJ searchlights! A bit different from ‘all black with tiny points of light’, just as you suggest.
These ‘tiny points of light’ that seemed to have reilived his ‘black’ depression seem to have included:
* jogging (after a miraculous recovery from his Achilles tendon injury which was so troublesome on the afternoon of 3 May)
* writing a very carefully crafted ‘blog’
* tennis matches, and
* being in the apartment to receive free booze provided by Mark Warners.
And ‘phoning Gordon Brown a few times and arranging to see the Pope/’Holy Father’

You are all idiots. You don’t know them from Adam and sitting there making judgements on them like they were your sister or brother!!! I would be ashamed if I were you. Do any of you have children? Well….I do - 3 of them to be exact and they are 6,5 & 4. At one time I had 3 under the age of 2 1/2 and let me tell you what a “handful” they all were. There were times that I thought I would lose my mind. There were times when I would sit and cry because I didn’t think I could handle them and their demands. But you know what - I am not alone in this thought process, and neither is Kate McCann. If she DIDN’T think that way - you would think she was a freak - so for her it’s a lose/lose situation. Talking about how much money they make and “why can’t they pay their mortgage” etc….maybe they have other expenses(like med school loans - you morons) that they have a lot of their money tied up in. Think about it!!!!!!!
I just know that if it were my child who had been abducted - I would do EVERYTHING in my power to keep her face in the public eye for as long as I could. There are thousands of children that are “missing” everyday - and it doesn’t matter HOW they became missing - the point is that they are and they need our help. Some are sleeping “safely” in their own bed with their parents home when some disgusting pervert breaks in and takes them - never to be seen again….others are trick-or-treating and get dragged away from a group and thrown into the back of a car and then are found 2 days later in a forest. What is wrong with you people to point fingers and act this way??? Talking about recreational drugs and alcohol and murdering of ones own child. You are all a bunch of idiots. Instead of pointing your fingers at others, why don’t you think about the guilt you would feel over thinking your child is safe and find out that she isn’t? Try walking in someone else’s shoes for a while before you pass judgement. Stop talking to hear your head rattle and maybe put yourself to some use and try to help find her!!!

860…..what on earth could be worse than covering up an infant death,this is what I cant get my head around,ok ok they are doctors and whilst I have said myself they bring their kids up very differently nannies etc,shove them into private care nurseries at any opurtunity,seems the less they have to spend with their kids the better…..(.and not just doctors but any high profile worker).But covering up for friends????all they would have to do is say they found maddie in a poor state and they/he tried to save her the best he could,unfortunately it failed,it happens all the time in hospitals up and down the country,,better to come clean that way and maybe get struck off the register for a couple of months or so,than to loose everything,job,home,partner,and maybe a spell in prison.for covering up,…whats it to do with o’brien hes a doctor and he tried to save a life….could have got away with anything really,instead of all this nightmare he must be facing……and the mccanns will still be guilty of all there neglect……….I just cannot see someone covering up for a mate,not in a death of a child…………..but maybe Im wrong the world is full of sick people…..just my opinion…

It causes me headaches [not serious though]. I know people do things I wouldn’t do. I know people say things I wouldn’t do. Not all of that makes them bad or better people then me. And OB or P also vulnerable for blackmail by GM in case he wanted to confess afterwards. And the risk of someone seeing you carrying the child!
But as for the body hiding, the leaks coming out of Portugal PJ is that she was hidden on May 2/3 after midnight in another apartment and then …… no more information yet.
Later some other items — perhaps clean up items — where carried away in the hire car which is what caused the DNA transference.
You could be right about the clean up items. On the other hand, even I know [and I'm no doctor nor cop] know about DNA. Even a hair left at a crime scene can give you away. Even I know about the ultraviolet light that can show blood that’s hidden for the eye at normal day or nightlight. They should know that too, and any blood by then would be dry, so put it in a plastic bag and no traces left in the car or use the fireplace. Any fireplaces btw in the apartments?

The tactic of theMcCann’team and the proMcCann medias, the strategie behind the recent tabloïd articles is frightening (beyond the borders). They allegedly condemn the MCCann for the film to win the sympathie of the readers (not difficult) and in the same time, very “innocently”, they substantiate the abduction theory . Some journalists are swindlers , they intend to mask the truth : the McCann’s culpability , with a transparent smoke screen. REVOLUTION!

According to O’Brian he was away temporarily from the bar because his child was vomiting.
This is not a good scenario if another child not only vomited but also choked to death.
The failed heroic attempt gets him no brownie points since it merely reinforces the fact that under Portuguese law he and his partner were grossly negligent.
It’s a bit difficult claiming that your absence from your sick child was nothing to worry about if the child next door has just died…

I know what you mean although I thought it was more like the behaviour they showed early in the case. They’ve been quiet of late and their latest movie/book deal thing was really like the stuff they were coming out with back in May/June. It’s just that they’ve kept quiet for so long so it was alarming to see it all again. I thought we’d seen the back of that behaviour but as you say, it blew a lot of people away with the audacity of it all.
