As I said, it is kind of an example, first hit from a quick google search with the appropriate keywords. The timing of this case doesn’t fit right to the Maddie case. Or if it does, it would mean that some thinks went bad.
It itches me to continue my search for a case that fits better, however…

No not a secret any more…haven’t been sworn to secrecy on pain of death
or anything. He quite happily discussed it after some gentle probing.
Basically it is that he thinks that madeleine is still alive and well and being
looked after well…..and that the abduction was to do with Inter- Govermental
matters.
