It presses all the right buttons - scrapes the bottom of the barrel so they can be furious at the press and the public will just read the headline and shout ‘foul’!
It points the finger away from them.
It distracts from what the PJ are doing.
It -as you say - allows them to claim they need more cash.

This is just the kind of headline to let the McCanns claim the press is being horrid to them, even though its a clever ‘not the McCanns’ story!

They may not like it, but they could use it. As the article says, to clear their names, as it points the finger at everyone but them.
Also, I imagine they’d still say they needed money, to do personal searches of the reservoir (is allowed), etc.

The general consensus of opinion among the mums I know is that children who are left with child-minders are far more likely to suffer distress when the parent leaves them than are those whose parents are with them most of the time. The child who is rarely left knows that the parent will return and will often happily wave goodbye and enjoy the experience of being where they are left - the child that is left all day with a child-minder knows that it will be a long time before the parent returns and hence may be distressed at the thought.
That isn’t always the case of course. In your case, your child was left with his aunt with whom he had a truly loving bond - that is completely different from a creche or a non-related child-minder.

I’m glad you answered Ian, because I was trying to compose an answer to that–and you said it!
Add to that, as the newspapers said yesterday, the PJ is up against a publicity machine which keeps reporting new witnesses and red herrings which the PJ then must follow up upon in order to be able to be prepared for their case.

I was one of the ones who went to boarding school. My father wasn’t in the military but was a civil engineer working for what was, at one time, known as the Air Ministry Works Dept. It then became part of the Ministry of Public Buildings and Works. I was sent back to England in second form because my father’s tour abroad finished too close to O’levels and my parents didn’t want to make the change then. I didn’t feel bad about it at the time from a family point of view, although I hated the school. I went home for Christmas and summer and stayed with my grandmother at Easter. I don’t feel I was any worse off than my brother, who, being younger, stayed at home. He lived in the same place in England from the age of 5 upwards and I don’t think I would particulary have wanted to live there. He had some advantages, I had others.

is it possible that metodo 3 paid a “commission” related to the contract to find maddie? ie the fund engages / pays M3 and M3 pays a success / finders fee to an entity nominated by the introducer.
