The paper says he looks not too unlike the man seen walking from the holiday complex holding a child. You know, that man with no face…
Says Mr Groom: “I think I am being framed. I am the victim of a smear campaign by someone with a grudge against me… During the week two detectives had arrived in town and begun asking friends about my whereabouts. I rang them after they left a message with a friend. I met them in a car park in Praia da Luz… They were two detectives from the Lisbon area, a good cop and a bad cop. One guy was quite small and smoked a cigar. The other guy was really fat, wore girly sunglasses and kept looking around him all the time”
A good cop? We know all about the bad cops (see the Sun). But this good cop..?
They showed him the email. It went:
“Is it a coincidence that this man started working as a gardener in the area and a child went missing?
“Maybe he walked through the car park at the front of the McCanns’ apartment and a little way down the dark alley between the two buildings where he could see and probably hear that the McCanns were there.
“After that maybe he listened at the window of the McCanns’ apartment for any sign that someone such as a babysitter was there. No television…nothing.
“Did this man initially see the McCanns and Madeleine whilst working on an empty apartment/villa and note that the children were left alone? Did he then come back to watch the McCanns when it was dark and not during daylight hours?”
This is front-page news…
Says Groom: “After a few minutes they said they thought it was all b******t. They said if they needed to talk to me again they would, but they thought they were barking up the wrong tree”

evidence found in the Apartment matches the DNA found in the car and proves to be

in the Spectator yesterday . He said the Press from day one had been manipulated by the
McCanns and the Press felt aggrieved that they were”nt doing the reporting. He also inferred
that the McCanns might regret their actions.

In post 226 you said Kate”s Dad has reportedly made a “heartfelt plea” for the public to keep searching for
Madeleine.
Chenier later commented that this person hadn’t done any searching, wanted every one else to look etc. I think perhaps not realising that you were originally referring to Kate’s Dad.
It was me who pointed out to chenier that Kate’s Dad, I believe, has/is not been in the best of health for a long time and therefore in no fit state to search personally.
Chenier acknowledged their mistake asked if this quote re Kate’s Dad was from the Vanity Fair article, I didn’t think so/know where it came from and so asked you if you had a source for your original comment in 226 about Kate’s Dad asking people to search.
Make sense? Kind of, you said, they said. I said, they said, I said, you said…
Not seen the Spectator article. Is it online somewhere?

chenier is reminding us all of one of least successful posts on Anorak … I was trying to use bold and italics and I believed I knew what I was doing. Clearly I did not.
As far as I can remember, I just stabbed wildly at the keyboard roughly in the direction of some little < thingies, then stabbed at the odd b and the odd i, then stabbed at some more < thingies again, hit the post button and Voila! I found I had then posted something so wild and weirdly punctuated it looked like a bit of pulsating Pop Art and I was so ashamed I had to run away and hide in the odd sock pile for two days.
Actually, Duncan R explained how to bold/italic on a thread a couple of days ago - worth a look because if I don’t explain it properly: type without the gaps before the words you want to bold then type without the gaps to close the bolding. Same principle with italics, only using the i.

Not certain chenier. Val made the original post, do you have a source per chance val?
If a fraction of the people who post here, and elsewhere, are even partially correct in their suppositions, then I suspect Kate’s Dad is a very troubled man indeed, and not just because he is/was already in a poor state of health before Madeleine disappeared. If/when this case is ever resolved I suspect there will be many innocent victims, alongside the gullible chumps and glory hunters, in my opinion.

I’ll concur on that one.
What struck me last night, looking at the mirror forum thread on the Mail’s murder article, was that a particularly prolific poster, who has spent months in a sustained diatribe about how paedophiles were everywhere stealing children out of their beds, and how we should be supporting the parents because Madeleine is alive somewhere and needs our help, made just one initial comment about the article.
That comment blamed the PJ for not dragging the reservoir properly.
I found that absolutely extraordinary, as well as disgusting.
It made it obvious that s/he didn’t give a toss about the child, and was obsessed with whitewashing the parents.
Admittedly it was also an extremely stupid thing to do.
But I’m sure that there are people who genuinely believed in the McCanns who are going to be dreadfully hurt by this…
