Madeleine McCann: The Gardener Questioned, Marcos Correia Cries Rape And Kelsey Lynn Kudla Says
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE: BRITISH ODD-JOB MAN QUIZZED”
A new suspect?
“An anonymous email sent to Portuguese detectives claimed that Daniel Groom was spotted lurking in an alley close to the McCanns’ apartment on the night Madeleine vanished”
The paper says he looks not too unlike the man seen walking from the holiday complex holding a child. You know, that man with no face…
Says Mr Groom: “I think I am being framed. I am the victim of a smear campaign by someone with a grudge against me… During the week two detectives had arrived in town and begun asking friends about my whereabouts. I rang them after they left a message with a friend. I met them in a car park in Praia da Luz… They were two detectives from the Lisbon area, a good cop and a bad cop. One guy was quite small and smoked a cigar. The other guy was really fat, wore girly sunglasses and kept looking around him all the time”
A good cop? We know all about the bad cops (see the Sun). But this good cop..?
They showed him the email. It went:
“Is it a coincidence that this man started working as a gardener in the area and a child went missing?
“Maybe he walked through the car park at the front of the McCanns’ apartment and a little way down the dark alley between the two buildings where he could see and probably hear that the McCanns were there.
“After that maybe he listened at the window of the McCanns’ apartment for any sign that someone such as a babysitter was there. No television…nothing.
“Did this man initially see the McCanns and Madeleine whilst working on an empty apartment/villa and note that the children were left alone? Did he then come back to watch the McCanns when it was dark and not during daylight hours?”
This is front-page news…
Says Groom: “After a few minutes they said they thought it was all b******t. They said if they needed to talk to me again they would, but they thought they were barking up the wrong tree”
A gardening joke to end. Mr Groom may survive his ordeal
“KEEP LOOKING FOR HER, BEGS GRANDAD” – Says Brian Healey: “There has been so much that has been said and written, much of it untrue and hurtful, but so often it seems to me as if the only really important person in all this has been forgotten – and that’s Madeleine”
Indeed. ‘Nuff said…
“Some people don’t seem to want to know about the real Kate”
As we say, ‘nuff said…
THE SUN: “’Paedo dumped Maddie in lake’”
“MADELEINE McCann was raped and killed within 48 hours of being snatched then thrown in a reservoir, a Portuguese lawyer claimed yesterday. Human rights solicitor Marcos Aragao Correia said underworld sources tipped him off on May 6, three days after the tot vanished in Praia da Luz”
May 6?
Correia says he told the police. He then told Metodo 3, the McCanns’ private detectives. Correia says Madeleine’s body was in a reservoir with a small beach and showers for campers, late identified as the Barragem do Arade reservoir
Remerb when X marked the spot - “Vermoedelijke Vindplaats”
“KATE dad: Back off my daughter” – Says Brian Healy: “Some people don’t seem to want to know about the real Kate. She is such a warm and caring person, as well as being intelligent. But you can’t win because people say, ‘He would say that, he’s her father’”
Why would we care? A child is missing, why is it important we like Kate McCann?
“READERS in fury at ’sick stunt’”
“SUN readers bombarded our MySun discussion forums yesterday to vent their disgust following our revelations that an agency is ready to hire out a Maddie lookalike”
“LOOKALIKE mum: Let us help” – “The tearful mum of a tiny lookalike who hopes to play Madeleine McCann in a film insisted last night: ‘We only want to help’. American Kris Pfister, whose three-year-old Kelsey Lynn Kudla bears a stunning resemblance to the missing tot, added: “I feel for Maddie’s family — I am on their team”
Well, no, you’re not. But you are in the papers. Fame beckons? Tonight, Matthew, I’m going to be…
Quote of the week: “Since people started telling her she looked like Maddie, Kelsey’s been following the news. She cries when she hears she’s still missing. When we read there may be a documentary or film on the hunt, she said, ‘Mummy, I could play Madeleine. I look just like her’”
Here’s Kels-seeeey. (Come, on, Kelsey, you’re on… Smile!)
“People say that I look like Maddie. She lost her mummy and daddy. I want to help bring her home”
DAILY STAR: “MADDIE WAS ‘SNATCHED AND MURDERED’”
“Madeleine McCann was abducted, raped, murdered and thrown in a reservoir, a lawyer claimed last night”
It’s Marcos Correia again. Who told him? He will not say. But the paper notes: “He spent three weeks at the reservoir with investigators from the McCanns’ Metodo 3 agency. Last night he called on the police to search it extensively”
They have done. You can read about it here
Are these underworld figures known to Antonio Toscano?
DAILY MAIL: “Madeleine was ‘raped, murdered - and then dumped in reservoir’”
“Underworld criminals contacted a human rights lawyer on May 6, three days after the girl vanished, with details of her alleged abduction and murder, he said. But when Marcos Aragao Correia tried to tell police, he was ignored, he added”
Or not. The reservoir was searched
“PORTUGUESE police ‘want to keep Madeleine file secret for another three months’”
Says Clarence Mitchell the couple’s spokesman: “We are disappointed, but not surprised given that the police are still investigating.
“We had expected this request, however our lawyers will be examining it and once again we would urge the police to come over and interview who they want to.
“DEATH threats for woman hiring out Madeleine lookalikes” - Shona Juliet-Adams, owner of Juliet Adams Modelling and Talent Casting Agency, says: “”I have had threatening phone calls and death threats. I am not speaking to anybody until I have spoken to the police about my security - I received death threats”
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “McCanns suffer ‘almost inhumane’ police delay”
Kate and Gerry McCann could remain official suspects in their daughter’s disappearance for “several more months”
Clarence Mitchell says: “This is extremely disappointing. We will continue to co-operate with the Portuguese police, of course. However, the delay in resolving the case and eliminating Gerry and Kate is now becoming almost inhumane”
“BAD taste jokes need time to be funny” - An interactive humour survey at the Science Museum’s Dana centre in central London. Only seven per cent of the audience felt that a joke about Bhutto’s death was funny or amusing and only 31 per cent felt humour involving the McCanns was appropriate”
A Joke: “Dr Harold Shipman’s last meal was a curry. He said he enjoyed it but he could have murdered a nan”
FOX NEWS (USA): “Report: Agency Worker Receives Death Threats Over Madeleine McCann Look-Alikes”
“Shona Juliet-Adams, 41, whose agency offers the look-alikes for about $1,174 an hour, said she has been receiving ‘threatening phone calls and death threats’”

Everyone does seem to be having more fun someplace else. Can’t blame them and it is kinda nice (it being a bit quiet). It’s just my opinion, but I think for the most part, the forums have been kind of nice these past two days.

Oh, thank you! I will tell her tomorrow. She wants a daily update on this case [and is disappointed when I have to record all of the silly personal attacks going on ...]. But whatever I have to tell her, she twitches her nose and says “this stinks”.
Good night again

My sister is a real catholic in every sense of the word (if there is one) But she was ahead of me when we were talking about it - and she said she knew M was dead when the news came out of the butterfly. Did anyone see this butterfly? I didn’t but it was reported. But that day my sister had drawn her conclusions. Madeleine had died and has visited her mother to say ‘it’s ok I’m still here.

When the penny dropped…
When the McCanns were made arguidos, I realised how much that reported comment “They’ve taken her” had niggled from the beginning.
Still didn’t want to think they’d had anything to do with it, but then all the inconsistencies began adding up and up…the not-jemmied shutters/windows, the distance from the Tapas bar, the muddled checking timelines, the eggwith hair that became a fully dressed foreigner, the washing of CuddleCat…
And then the strange obstinacy of our press, which refused to allow any dissent from the official line…and the reliance on PR and spin, and obviously planted stories.
It’s all so murky. But why?

For the record, I had a gut feeling almost from the beginning of this story that something was wrong. I thought it was the media at first… remember the BBC sent an anchorperson to the Algarve, etc? There was just too much circus about it from the start, and when they started begging for money my alarm bells went off. Then there was the extreme slapdown that one got from any public forum where one dared to express anything other than blind sentimentalism about this case.
The usual level of intellectual argument ran something like this: “You are a real sicko… you should take a good hard look at yourself, I really feel sorry for you that you are so filled with hate.”
So if you don’t blindly accept what you are being told you should think, then you are some sort of morally bankrupt monster.
Now the pendulum has swung in the other direction– even with the best PR money can buy, the McCanns can’t make people like them.

Very indirect and McCann just don’t mix I’m afraid, oil and water. (I choose not to involve blood)
813
Simon, maybe a distant cousin to GM’s family that she married? (if she is married) Still, if you had a distant cousin, that you knew about, and their child went missing and they needed a place to stay (in a foreign country, no less)…I’d like to think most people would let them stay for free.

Ruth McCann owns the apartment in Portugal where the McCanns were staying when Madeleine disappeared.
Apparently she is NOT a relation tho’ she comes from Liverpool

Noseycow, I had no idea about his wife, that’s horrible and yes, that either says a lot about him, his marriage, or his relationship to the case.
799
I’m not sure that is disinformation, Trismegistus, it seems a bit sensible of the film’s backers. Although, with that being said, there is no reason for the McCanns to sign on then, as they want money to continue the search. That doesn’t mean they couldn’t take another offer, but I really don’t see the point if she is found dead or alive to make a film this early on. At least with Elizabeth Smart, she was found alive, and if her parents had made any actions afterwards, she was old enough to be able to grasp how films and things could impact her life. (although, I’m not sure if any of the films had the parents sign off or when they were released, as the book about Madeleine is already out, and I don’t believe the McCanns backed that at all).

Re * IF it was an “abduction” on May 3, it must have been premeditated and planned long in advance”
Well, Kate has said he was taking notes when he lurked ouside.
=======================
‘I wish I could roll back time and go back to the day before Madeleine was abducted. I would slow down time. I would get a really good look around and have a really good think. And I’d think: Where are you? Who are you? Who is secretly watching my family? Because someone was watching my family very, very carefully. And taking notes.’ ”
Barking mad…

and too bloody late , too
*******************
Easy to see why Kate’s observations were excluded fromVF!
To think Oldfield allegedly checks on the children but doesn’t bother to see if they have fallen out of bed or worse;
Gerry checks and suspects somebody was hiding behind a door, and
Kate thinks they were all being stalked
BUT it was still OK to leave the kids…

I read the VF interview took place in October - reference to five and a half months having passed. I believe it may have later been updated as some statements in it would seem to support.
There is also some confusion about where it took place as the cut and pasted quote from the article below backs up. Some references have placed the interview in their house.
…..and so great is his loathing of most journalists that it takes place in utter secrecy near his home, in Leicestershire. In a country inn lined with portraits of ladies in powdered wigs, a polite manager points the way to the back exit, in the event other reporters drop by

Actually, nosey cow, I believe it was Peter that had a decent roundup of possible dates (October and recently, if I remember correctly..which is highly doubtful). Perhaps if he is still around, he can confirm.
++++++++++++++++
I’ve just scan read the first page again.. Can’t see the date. The article is here:
http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/features/2008/02/mccanns200802?currentPage=1
I must admit, I thought it said October, but maybe that was a quote in the Daily Mail article about the VF article?
The article does make reference to events in December, so it’s recently been updated before going to press.
Discussed at length yesterday. Do a search in yesterday’s blog for Vanity Fair and VF . Press Ctrl F to get search/find box.

“It wasn’t meant to be like this” funnily enough I was thinking about this today - not when I was on here but strolling around shopping - just popped into my head.

chenier - someone posted an interveiw with clarrie earlier today - where he stated that he hasn’t actually been paid as yet
Also - just out of interest - he tells of his wife miscarrying while he was in portugal, and he opted to stay there. Poor woman - maybe he regrets not being there at that moment?
Both indicate a deeper level of involvement than he would have us believe IMO.
