Madeleine McCann: McCann Incorporated, McCann Ink And Going Back To Portugal
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
SUNDAY MIRROR: “Tapas 7 in despair at all the ‘lies’”
They say they are also called the Tapas Nine? And the Sangria Seven
“The Tapas Seven are “in meltdown” over the failure of Portuguese police to make any meaningful progress in the hunt for Madeleine”
“IT’S OUR D-DAY - McCanns return to Portugal - EXCLUSIVE Kate and Gerry set date in April for Algarve showdown They’ll tell cops: show your evidence or clear us for good”. Like that D-Day back on November?
“Despairing Kate and Gerry McCann are planning to return to Portugal for a face-to-face showdown with police who think they killed their daughter Madeleine”
They are going back. Now..?
Well, not exactly: “A close friend said the the couple were likely to go back after their ‘D-Day’ of April 11, when their three-month extension is up, and added: ‘They feel they’ve waited long enough with this cloud of suspicion hanging over them. They know their return would be very high-profile. They believe investigators do not have the evidence against them to bring charges, and their presence in Portugal would embarrass them. They’ve so far held off going back there, but they see it as their trump card”
They will go back once they have been allowed to see the police first on them
Says the paper’s source: “They see April 11 as their D-day. They have decided to give the police reasonable time to clear them, or at least open the case files so they can see the evidence against them”
That’s good of them…
FIONA Philips, of GMTV writes: “Have a heart”. Yes, that Fiona Philips
“Unbelievably, every time I write about the McCanns I get messages saying, ‘I used to like you, until you started supporting the McCanns.’ Nice, eh? So I hope you’re happy now that Kate and Gerry have blamed themselves for Madeleine’s disappearance”
Happy?
“In a list of ‘if onlys’, Gerry said: ‘I wish I’d stayed in the apartment that night.’ Now, I expect more bile on praising them for considering making a documentary on the case. Surely you can’t tell me that there’s a parent out there who wouldn’t do anything possible to find their missing child?”
SUNDAY PEOPLE: “’We pray she’ll be at party for twins’”
“Brave Kate McCann is planning a huge birthday party for her twins - and dreams missing Maddie will be there too. Kate, 39, has vowed to go ahead with the bash for Sean and Amelie even though she is still waiting for cops to quiz her again. Mother-in-law Eileen said: ‘The party’s on and it will be an even bigger one if wee Madeleine is back. All we can do is hope and pray.’ Sean and Amelie turn three on February”
Touching stuff. Gerry McCann is a “heart specialist”
MAIL ON SUNDAY: “Madeleine: No film will be made unless she’s found - alive or dead”
“Kate and Gerry McCann have been told that the proposed documentary about their daughter’s disappearance can go ahead only if she is found – alive or dead.
A source says: “It was awkward to raise but there would need to be an ending – either Madeleine being found alive or a body being discovered. If this wasn’t the case, and there was a major development after filming and editing, it could render the documentary redundant”
Or the parents or some other person or persons are charged, perhaps?
THE OBSERVER: “A good week for … a bad week for …”
“A bad week for …
“Tradition – A Lib Dem MP called Lynne Featherstone has made a bid for the limelight by reporting the monarchy to the Equality Commission because it goes in for primogeniture”
“Marcus Agius The chairman of Barclay’s was the target of £10,000 fraud”
“Good Taste - Or indeed any taste at all. A London based agency which supplies celebrity doubles has employed a small girl to rent out as Madeleine McCann. 20 per cent”
It was a “good weeks for… Washing up”
“THE Maddie story is already a soap opera, so why the moral panic over a movie? - Don’t get me wrong - nobody wants to see Maddie: The Musical. However, needs must if the McCanns want to continue trying to find out what happened to their daughter and they do, despite the devastating expense (their somewhat unproductive detective agency alone costs £50,000 a month) and the increasingly shabby odds.”
Maddie: The Musical, eh..?
THE SUNDAY INDEPENDENT: “Strange case of the detectives trying to trace Madeleine”
“After a week when commercials deals were more apparent than clues, we investigate the investigators”. Why not investigate the case?
“Just when the Madeleine McCann saga couldn’t get any more agonising, along came a raft of developments last week that began to achieve what you would hope would be impossible: turning a little missing girl into an industry – Madeleine Inc. Item: a London agency hawking around various small girls as Madeleine lookalikes. Item: US television bringing a team of psychics to bear on the disappearance as part of what they no doubt hoped would be a money-spinner of a show. Item: her parents, Gerry and Kate McCann, exploring the possibility of selling the book and film rights to the case”
Madeleine became a brand long ago. Brand McCann…
“Madeleine Inc bring benefits to some, but not, so far, to the girl herself or her distraught parents”
Or Madeleine Ink – see the press
THE SUNDAY TIMES: Ron Liddle writes:
“So, get yourself ready for Maddie – The Movie (PG, until you fancy nipping out for something to eat). Kate and Gerry McCann’s press spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, has confirmed that the couple met with representatives from the US entertainment company IMG before Christmas and that while nothing was agreed, the meeting had been ‘positive’. A day later Gerry McCann hastily backtracked and said no, no, they weren’t planning a movie. Who to believe? And which British actors will Hollywood cast as the parents if there is a film? Sacha Baron Cohen and Catherine Tate? Am I bovvered? Look at my face – is it bovvered? And maybe Matt Lucas as the shady-looking Robert Murat? Norman Wisdom as the Portuguese chief of police?”

Daisy,
You continuously complain about the attitude of several Anorak posters towards yourself. However, you are constantly making referrals to things that “several” Anorak posters have said, the viewpoint of “several” Anorak posters, the fact that “several” Anorak posters blame the mother, that “many” of the Anorak anti-Mc posters would NEVER apologise if found to be wrong in their take on this case, etc. etc.
What on earth do you expect from us? You are the one constantly pointing the finger at the numerous “bad” Anorak posters, yet you continue to do so each and every time you post! You cannot expect the red carpet to be permanently rolled out for you? I, for one am getting sick and tired of your unfounded accusations against Anorak posters (of which you couldn’t be bothered to go and find actual quotes???). Sorry Daisy, as far as I’m concerned, the red carpet is no longer out for you.

Julie,
Didn’t know there was a red carpet, certainly never for me, I may add! I am stating my opinion and am entitled to it. The sick jokes about Kate, the desired for her to commit suicide, the way she looks and how she dresses, etc. etc. This is what I am talking about. Many people make constant remarks about the McCanns, which I believe to be unfair in that regard.
My complaints as such have been only when someone has become abusive and personal.

Daisy, you may not agree with people commenting on others who have chosen the celebrity route, but from that point of view the McCanns opted for that path fully aware of the potholes, pitfalls and brickbats that could accompany the bouquets and other benefits they want thrown at them. They have received over £1m, its reasonable 1m insults will follow.

Hi folks, little she-devil is back
As you all should know, cartwheeling [with our without knickers] is dangerous when you are on a rollercoaster. Never seen anyone doing that trick. May be the tv or tabloids should go out and find an idiot to perform that act? I’m sure it would sell, danger AND blood, yummie!

Matt - The story is in the daily mail online. I tried to provide a link, but for some reason, it is not letting me. I apologise profusely as the comment about making a film about Madeleine, only if she was found dead or alive, was not from Clarence Mitchell, but from the entertainment agency, IMG. It also stated that the story about Madeleine must have reached a conclusion before any film/documentary could be made.
As I stated earlier, I do not think that additional publicity, even if this case reaches a conclusion, would be healthy for the twins, either now or in the future.

EDIT
Well, that’s a welcome change from a wholly unsubstantiated claim of ‘most’ to a still wholly unsubstantiated ‘considerable percentage’ .
As for evidence, that is not confined to a court of law; rational people do seek evidence because without it one cannot reach a reasoned conclusion.
And since you post at very considerable length on the iniquities of people criticising the McCanns without evidence, it is not unreasonable to expect you to provide some evidence when you make a sweeping claim about the people who post here on Anorak’s blog…
EDIT
Chenier,
That’s okay. You can have the last word (even if its inaccurate).

I thought they have said no to a film now? After the backlash, although there are comments on an film focused on the McCanns (parents) and then all of the systems that work together to find missing children. That’s how I understood it, probably wrong though..

Chenier,
Didn’t realize that this was a Court of Law and I had to provide evidence. Sorry, but I will not go back and count how many post over the last x months have said this or that or how many words were dedicated to the mother or the child or the father.
In my opinion, and from what I have read in this forum, a considerable percentage of the posters do think that the mother harmed the child.

I’m sorry if asking this question is going over ground this forum has covered previously (I’m a regular reader of the forum but don’t really get much time to ‘join in’).
I wondered if anyone else has noticed that the photos/footage released at Christmas (2007) (supposedly taken of Madeleine the previous Christmas (2006)) shows one of the twins in the background and their ages do not seem to correspond with it being taken at Christmas 2006. We are told that the twins will be 3 next month, however, the twin in the background of the picture/footage looks at that just about to start walking stage (I’d say he/she looks just under a year old), which would correspond exactly to the footage being Christmas 2005. There is no way the twin in the background of that shot (of Madeleine opening presents) is almost two.
The reason I’m so sure is that one of my children is virtually the same age as the twins and to me it seems glaringly obvious.
Why would they want to mislead us into believing the footage was from last Christmas? What would be the purpose?

The dates of the photos have been discussed, and I believe an impasse was reached as no one has the original photos.

I find Clarence Mitchell’s comment that a film will only be made if Madeleine is found dead or alive despicable.
Should Madeleine be found alive, I would sincerely hope that her parents would do everything possible to defend her privacy and, IMO, that would mean attempting to move on and away from the media, create a normal and stable environment for her and give her all the support that she would need, and absolutely not to make a film.
If Madeleine is found deceased, then making a film would look as if they are trying to make money from her, even when dead, which is horrific.
I am also concerned about the effect of a film about Madeleine on the twins. They too need their privacy. Growing up under the glare of the media is extremely unhealthy. I already think that they will be forever known and referred to, in later life, as ‘Madeleine McCann’s brother or sister’ and not as Sean and Amelie. The effect of this on their lives should not be underestimated.
