Madeleine McCann: McCann Incorporated, McCann Ink And Going Back To Portugal
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
SUNDAY MIRROR: “Tapas 7 in despair at all the ‘lies’”
They say they are also called the Tapas Nine? And the Sangria Seven
“The Tapas Seven are “in meltdown” over the failure of Portuguese police to make any meaningful progress in the hunt for Madeleine”
“IT’S OUR D-DAY - McCanns return to Portugal - EXCLUSIVE Kate and Gerry set date in April for Algarve showdown They’ll tell cops: show your evidence or clear us for good”. Like that D-Day back on November?
“Despairing Kate and Gerry McCann are planning to return to Portugal for a face-to-face showdown with police who think they killed their daughter Madeleine”
They are going back. Now..?
Well, not exactly: “A close friend said the the couple were likely to go back after their ‘D-Day’ of April 11, when their three-month extension is up, and added: ‘They feel they’ve waited long enough with this cloud of suspicion hanging over them. They know their return would be very high-profile. They believe investigators do not have the evidence against them to bring charges, and their presence in Portugal would embarrass them. They’ve so far held off going back there, but they see it as their trump card”
They will go back once they have been allowed to see the police first on them
Says the paper’s source: “They see April 11 as their D-day. They have decided to give the police reasonable time to clear them, or at least open the case files so they can see the evidence against them”
That’s good of them…
FIONA Philips, of GMTV writes: “Have a heart”. Yes, that Fiona Philips
“Unbelievably, every time I write about the McCanns I get messages saying, ‘I used to like you, until you started supporting the McCanns.’ Nice, eh? So I hope you’re happy now that Kate and Gerry have blamed themselves for Madeleine’s disappearance”
Happy?
“In a list of ‘if onlys’, Gerry said: ‘I wish I’d stayed in the apartment that night.’ Now, I expect more bile on praising them for considering making a documentary on the case. Surely you can’t tell me that there’s a parent out there who wouldn’t do anything possible to find their missing child?”
SUNDAY PEOPLE: “’We pray she’ll be at party for twins’”
“Brave Kate McCann is planning a huge birthday party for her twins - and dreams missing Maddie will be there too. Kate, 39, has vowed to go ahead with the bash for Sean and Amelie even though she is still waiting for cops to quiz her again. Mother-in-law Eileen said: ‘The party’s on and it will be an even bigger one if wee Madeleine is back. All we can do is hope and pray.’ Sean and Amelie turn three on February”
Touching stuff. Gerry McCann is a “heart specialist”
MAIL ON SUNDAY: “Madeleine: No film will be made unless she’s found - alive or dead”
“Kate and Gerry McCann have been told that the proposed documentary about their daughter’s disappearance can go ahead only if she is found – alive or dead.
A source says: “It was awkward to raise but there would need to be an ending – either Madeleine being found alive or a body being discovered. If this wasn’t the case, and there was a major development after filming and editing, it could render the documentary redundant”
Or the parents or some other person or persons are charged, perhaps?
THE OBSERVER: “A good week for … a bad week for …”
“A bad week for …
“Tradition – A Lib Dem MP called Lynne Featherstone has made a bid for the limelight by reporting the monarchy to the Equality Commission because it goes in for primogeniture”
“Marcus Agius The chairman of Barclay’s was the target of £10,000 fraud”
“Good Taste - Or indeed any taste at all. A London based agency which supplies celebrity doubles has employed a small girl to rent out as Madeleine McCann. 20 per cent”
It was a “good weeks for… Washing up”
“THE Maddie story is already a soap opera, so why the moral panic over a movie? - Don’t get me wrong - nobody wants to see Maddie: The Musical. However, needs must if the McCanns want to continue trying to find out what happened to their daughter and they do, despite the devastating expense (their somewhat unproductive detective agency alone costs £50,000 a month) and the increasingly shabby odds.”
Maddie: The Musical, eh..?
THE SUNDAY INDEPENDENT: “Strange case of the detectives trying to trace Madeleine”
“After a week when commercials deals were more apparent than clues, we investigate the investigators”. Why not investigate the case?
“Just when the Madeleine McCann saga couldn’t get any more agonising, along came a raft of developments last week that began to achieve what you would hope would be impossible: turning a little missing girl into an industry – Madeleine Inc. Item: a London agency hawking around various small girls as Madeleine lookalikes. Item: US television bringing a team of psychics to bear on the disappearance as part of what they no doubt hoped would be a money-spinner of a show. Item: her parents, Gerry and Kate McCann, exploring the possibility of selling the book and film rights to the case”
Madeleine became a brand long ago. Brand McCann…
“Madeleine Inc bring benefits to some, but not, so far, to the girl herself or her distraught parents”
Or Madeleine Ink – see the press
THE SUNDAY TIMES: Ron Liddle writes:
“So, get yourself ready for Maddie – The Movie (PG, until you fancy nipping out for something to eat). Kate and Gerry McCann’s press spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, has confirmed that the couple met with representatives from the US entertainment company IMG before Christmas and that while nothing was agreed, the meeting had been ‘positive’. A day later Gerry McCann hastily backtracked and said no, no, they weren’t planning a movie. Who to believe? And which British actors will Hollywood cast as the parents if there is a film? Sacha Baron Cohen and Catherine Tate? Am I bovvered? Look at my face – is it bovvered? And maybe Matt Lucas as the shady-looking Robert Murat? Norman Wisdom as the Portuguese chief of police?”

DCB, that’s possible. I don’t know, it is all very confusing (well, when you’re ignorant of their laws, like I am). Would the PJ ever just play a power card and extradite them? Also, could they do that for neglect? I’m not sure if they’d have to be named arguidos again? Not sure if there is a special set up for each crime they suspect you of, or if it is a blanket “suspect” status?

Well said.
It is also important to bear in mind that Kate McCann is perfectly happy to confide her ‘concerns’ about Robert Murat for onward transmission to the press, and equally happy for her PR person to disclose large numbers of unpleasant rumours and false claims also to the press.
Even when that endangers the safety of other children….

Edit….
I understand that some people can be upset because of certain aspects of this case, but I personally don’t like it when hurtful comments are made about a woman, who has lost a child (yes, they enabled that to happen), who I would imagine is suffering and feeling tremendous guilt (regardless of whether there has been a public admission or not). A woman that, as per photos I have seen, has lost a considerable amount of weight, looks terrible and is becoming withdrawn. I’m sorry, but I do not understand the jokes, especially when nobody has been convicted of any crime yet.
+++++++++++
With the greatest of respect, I feel you do protest too much.
While I wouldn’t wish any harm on Kate, nor anyone else, her current wellbeing, state of mind, weight etc is irrelevant and reads like yet another Poor little me, can’t you see I’m suffering? Why don’t you leave me alone? Haven’t I suffered enough? sort of quote.
In my opinion they know rather more about the events leading up to and following Madeline’s disappearance. Discovering the truth about Madeleine’s fate is I’ll admit
Of more importance than Kate’s current wellbeing etc. Although, in my opinion, the latter could probably be improved by addressing the former. With respect, I think Kate’s fate is in her own hands, unlike Madeleine’s, in my opinion.

Daisy, you are quite capable of expressing yourself in English, and you know that full well! (English is also not my first language, but so what, I am confident enough that I am able to communicate in English well enough for others to understand, so in my books this is not an excuse).
You are constantly making phrases such as : “the majority of”, “most of”, “nearly all” (referring to Anorak posters). The polite way to communicate on a forum, if you wish to make accusations against fellow posters, is refer to them BY NAME (BUT make sure you can back up your accusations with copies of actual posts made). By generalising in the way you are, you are bound to offend, and I have taken offence to your constant generalisations of Anorak posters.
Believe me Daisy, there are very few of your posts that I have missed, and it has led me to my belief that you are not only here for the reasons you state. My opinion of course, you can deny, you can SHOUT, but I have formed my own opinion of you.
—-
Julie,
I find it so funny that you (and a couple of others in the past), believe that when someone doesn’t agree with their views or something they posted, then there must be an ulterior motive. It puzzles me!
Believe it or not, I have been critizised by my wording in some instances and I have taken that up with the posters in question at the time.
The fact is Julie, that when someone gets fixated on playing this little attacking game with a particular poster, they just don’t stop.
But, as you said, you have formed your opinion about me (and I respect it).

A major problem in perception of this case is the arguido status.
If this had happened in the UK the Mccanns would be suspects without the police officially declaring them so.
If the Mccanns said - oh yes we welcome the police asking us further questions to held find Madeleine and resolve this case. BUT they have to come to our house to do it and tell us that they don’t believe that we are involved in any way whatsoever- what would people think?
They are not going back to Portugal because they KNOW they can be charged with child neglect at least.

You are correct in stating that IMG said that the film would only be made if this ’story’ reached a conclusion. I did later correct myself when I, wrongly, attributed this quote to Clarence Mitchell. (Post 366 at 3.19pm.)
I also agree that money seems to be far too high on the agenda for the McCanns. They seem to be ‘wasting’ it as quickly as they made it. Metodo 3 come to mind.

Julie,
I don’t want to interfere in a love-triangle, but a while ago Daisy was under siege, and attacked by several posters. Yesterday [and also earlier] Willo posted she’s not from Australia. What has that got to do with it? I don’t care if someone is from Timbuktu or merely saying s/he’s living in Timbuktu.
We all don’t [ermm may be not] know eachother, we all could be criminal doing their time and pretending to be someone else. I don’t care either, as long as we are serious, make jokes, without hurting another.
Remember how it felt when you were attacked? Most of us have experienced it, most of us didn’t like it, some felt hurt, others angry. Some still wear the scars.
And no carpets please for me, red or otherwise, I would trip over them

Peter (I agree with your post), but I’d like to add that I don’t think that closes off the film to other companies. Although that would be quite risky for them. On top of that, they do seem to be touting how one film could focus on how the McCanns are dealing with everything and the search for missing children. (alright, they aren’t touting it, I just paid great attention to that)

Anyone catch this news from Friday, the 11th? I find this very interesting, if a child of mine was missing I’d try anything to get them back. The mcs are afraid of what psychics might find, they have refused to cooperate with the psychics:

Daisy, you may not agree with people commenting on others who have chosen the celebrity route, but from that point of view the McCanns opted for that path fully aware of the potholes, pitfalls and brickbats that could accompany the bouquets and other benefits they want thrown at them. They have received over £1m, its reasonable 1m insults will follow.

My post this morning about Shafilea Ahmed had nothing to do with arranged marriages, but all to do with evidence or the lack of. The Coroner, the pathologist, the police all say the girl was murdered, they have stated this officially so there is no ambiguity about what they think.Fingers are being pointed as to the murderers and the reasons for it, no arrests , but the thing that puzzles me is are there any suspects, apart from the alleged ones.Madeleines case has not seen as much clear evidence or official statements, if they have not arrested anyone with the evidence and the statements from various official bodies in the Shafilea Ahmed case. Does anyone really expect the Madeleine case to end any better.

Watch his sensational leap from the bed onto the high ledge. Watch in amazement as he gingerly prowls along to the end of the ledge like a tightrope walker. Be astounded, as he performs another death-defying leap back down onto the bed! Meow does he do it???
Roll up, roll up, roll your eyes up! Last chance to see these amazing stunts, before he enters police training next week as the first cadaver cat to locate bodies concealed up a tree or hidden in the shrubbery in next door’s garden!!
