Madeleine McCann: McCann Incorporated, McCann Ink And Going Back To Portugal
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
SUNDAY MIRROR: “Tapas 7 in despair at all the ‘lies’”
They say they are also called the Tapas Nine? And the Sangria Seven
“The Tapas Seven are “in meltdown” over the failure of Portuguese police to make any meaningful progress in the hunt for Madeleine”
“IT’S OUR D-DAY - McCanns return to Portugal - EXCLUSIVE Kate and Gerry set date in April for Algarve showdown They’ll tell cops: show your evidence or clear us for good”. Like that D-Day back on November?
“Despairing Kate and Gerry McCann are planning to return to Portugal for a face-to-face showdown with police who think they killed their daughter Madeleine”
They are going back. Now..?
Well, not exactly: “A close friend said the the couple were likely to go back after their ‘D-Day’ of April 11, when their three-month extension is up, and added: ‘They feel they’ve waited long enough with this cloud of suspicion hanging over them. They know their return would be very high-profile. They believe investigators do not have the evidence against them to bring charges, and their presence in Portugal would embarrass them. They’ve so far held off going back there, but they see it as their trump card”
They will go back once they have been allowed to see the police first on them
Says the paper’s source: “They see April 11 as their D-day. They have decided to give the police reasonable time to clear them, or at least open the case files so they can see the evidence against them”
That’s good of them…
FIONA Philips, of GMTV writes: “Have a heart”. Yes, that Fiona Philips
“Unbelievably, every time I write about the McCanns I get messages saying, ‘I used to like you, until you started supporting the McCanns.’ Nice, eh? So I hope you’re happy now that Kate and Gerry have blamed themselves for Madeleine’s disappearance”
Happy?
“In a list of ‘if onlys’, Gerry said: ‘I wish I’d stayed in the apartment that night.’ Now, I expect more bile on praising them for considering making a documentary on the case. Surely you can’t tell me that there’s a parent out there who wouldn’t do anything possible to find their missing child?”
SUNDAY PEOPLE: “’We pray she’ll be at party for twins’”
“Brave Kate McCann is planning a huge birthday party for her twins - and dreams missing Maddie will be there too. Kate, 39, has vowed to go ahead with the bash for Sean and Amelie even though she is still waiting for cops to quiz her again. Mother-in-law Eileen said: ‘The party’s on and it will be an even bigger one if wee Madeleine is back. All we can do is hope and pray.’ Sean and Amelie turn three on February”
Touching stuff. Gerry McCann is a “heart specialist”
MAIL ON SUNDAY: “Madeleine: No film will be made unless she’s found - alive or dead”
“Kate and Gerry McCann have been told that the proposed documentary about their daughter’s disappearance can go ahead only if she is found – alive or dead.
A source says: “It was awkward to raise but there would need to be an ending – either Madeleine being found alive or a body being discovered. If this wasn’t the case, and there was a major development after filming and editing, it could render the documentary redundant”
Or the parents or some other person or persons are charged, perhaps?
THE OBSERVER: “A good week for … a bad week for …”
“A bad week for …
“Tradition – A Lib Dem MP called Lynne Featherstone has made a bid for the limelight by reporting the monarchy to the Equality Commission because it goes in for primogeniture”
“Marcus Agius The chairman of Barclay’s was the target of £10,000 fraud”
“Good Taste - Or indeed any taste at all. A London based agency which supplies celebrity doubles has employed a small girl to rent out as Madeleine McCann. 20 per cent”
It was a “good weeks for… Washing up”
“THE Maddie story is already a soap opera, so why the moral panic over a movie? - Don’t get me wrong - nobody wants to see Maddie: The Musical. However, needs must if the McCanns want to continue trying to find out what happened to their daughter and they do, despite the devastating expense (their somewhat unproductive detective agency alone costs £50,000 a month) and the increasingly shabby odds.”
Maddie: The Musical, eh..?
THE SUNDAY INDEPENDENT: “Strange case of the detectives trying to trace Madeleine”
“After a week when commercials deals were more apparent than clues, we investigate the investigators”. Why not investigate the case?
“Just when the Madeleine McCann saga couldn’t get any more agonising, along came a raft of developments last week that began to achieve what you would hope would be impossible: turning a little missing girl into an industry – Madeleine Inc. Item: a London agency hawking around various small girls as Madeleine lookalikes. Item: US television bringing a team of psychics to bear on the disappearance as part of what they no doubt hoped would be a money-spinner of a show. Item: her parents, Gerry and Kate McCann, exploring the possibility of selling the book and film rights to the case”
Madeleine became a brand long ago. Brand McCann…
“Madeleine Inc bring benefits to some, but not, so far, to the girl herself or her distraught parents”
Or Madeleine Ink – see the press
THE SUNDAY TIMES: Ron Liddle writes:
“So, get yourself ready for Maddie – The Movie (PG, until you fancy nipping out for something to eat). Kate and Gerry McCann’s press spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, has confirmed that the couple met with representatives from the US entertainment company IMG before Christmas and that while nothing was agreed, the meeting had been ‘positive’. A day later Gerry McCann hastily backtracked and said no, no, they weren’t planning a movie. Who to believe? And which British actors will Hollywood cast as the parents if there is a film? Sacha Baron Cohen and Catherine Tate? Am I bovvered? Look at my face – is it bovvered? And maybe Matt Lucas as the shady-looking Robert Murat? Norman Wisdom as the Portuguese chief of police?”

The McTildas lied. They said the apartment was locked and the shutter was jemmied. If we are to believe their later version that the patio doors were open then they originally lied.

Gloria Smudd,
and maybe the apartment doors were, in fact, locked. they maintained that the shutter was jemmied, ie the apartment had been broken into, but there was NO PROOF of this having occurred. so if entry wasn’t gained by the window, how else? through the unlocked locked patio doors, naturally. a fabrication necessary to support the abduction theory.

We also know that Gerry had made outrageous statements regarding being glad that he did not have to have the children with them at dinner (to say such a thing to a stranger beggers belief) and we also know that there was a great deal of discussion regarding the child care arrangements of the McCanns, seemingly prompted by the McCanns themselves - which is very odd and makes one consider the possible motives.
It may be that the McCanns needed to ensure that it was known they left their children - perhaps to ensure that the unlikely option of abduction by stranger was accepted - after all, if they had looked after their children sufficiently well, abduction would have been impossible - in fact, with the ‘5 minute window of opportunity’, it nearly is impossible.

It would be interesting to hear the loving parents explaining under court-room questioning how broadcasting the fact that their children were alone fell into under the umbrella of ‘responsible parenting’.

Pray for little soul, the problem is, they claim at least half of those.
The truth is, it isn’t hard to lock the door, give someone a key, hire a sitter. Also, if they are caring/protective enough to hire a part time nanny, why on Earth would you suddenly think it was okay to leave your children alone? And to think that they had all these feelings that someone was watching.
If they really did think it was safe, why the “feelings” now? If any of the places said they wouldn’t bring children, do you really think Gerry or Kate, the two people who are making demands of the police, would listen to some restaurant or hotel? I know you are aware of all of these things, I just get a bit rattled. …
——————–
Wanderer,
It’s not hard to lock the door and give someone a key. But if unlocking the door each time someone is to enter (noisy, perhaps) and attracts unwanted attention? Not such a good idea, then, if the actions of the person or persons coming and going are to remain largely undetected.
Hire a sitter, yes. And given the chummy relationships that have emerged between the OC’s nannies and the family, there’s nothing that points to a lack the parents’ apprehension over the nannies. BUT, if noone (including a sitter) was to be aware of the goings on that night or on previous nights, then that rules out accepting the services of a sitter.
And we’ve heard how exposed the apartment was - like living on the street - from other holiday makers; and the mother’s statements about feeling they were watched could all be now born out of paranoia or out searching for a credible reason for such a questionable decision.
If there is EVIDENCE to rule out Explanations 1 and 3 (’safe’ and under the influence, respectively) then, I’m afraid, it was all part of some covert premeditated operation.

I believe it was the night that the children were allegedly crying calling for their genetic father most of the night.
I expect the PJ have the evidence required to place them there (unless they used cash and wore masks).
For the purposes of explaining the night of the 3rd of May, it certainly seems likely that the ‘accidental death’ was there that night.
Admittedly there is as much evidence available to us of this as there is of abduction, none really - but that seems to have been accepted by the press and the friends of the McCanns and their supporters.

330 Jolie : I would like someone who believes in the McCanns’ innocence to explain why they will not go to Portugal to be reinterviewed to answer any questions the PJ have for them unless their status is changed[…]
*****
I don’t know if I’m qualified to answer your question. I don’t know what you mean by “innocence”? Innocence to what? Innocence to something more serious then leaving the 3 kids alone [neglect]?
I’ve stated before, when the pj asks them to come over to portugal and they don’t go, that would be a clue to me. On second thoughts however, I doubt it.
Several explanations for them not to go come to my mind.
1. lawyers telling them not to go
2. the fear of being locked up during the rest of the investigation
3. would it be in the interest of the twins if they went back
4. if their statements to the pj were true, and nothing left out/they told all they knew, what good would it do / how could it help finding Madeleine
5. I don’t think their presence would be appriciated at the moment, the whole media circus would be flying back to PdL, it seems the habitants are really fed up with them
—–
Thanks for your response. Yes, a fear of potentially being locked up and being kept away from their lives and their remaining children is understandable, guilty or innocent. However, they are the ones that claim they are eager to be reinterviewed by the PJ, but only if they are no longer suspects. There’s a tiger chasing it’s tail, eh? PJ can’t eliminate them from suspicion without having all questions answered and completing their investigation. If they wanted to get the interviews over with, truly, they would hop on a plan and answer each and every question. I believe they are full of arrogant bluster with no substance or sincerity within their statements, other than the fact that they would like to no longer be suspects.
I don’t think it is necessary for them to return to Portugal to answer questions unless the PJ request it specifically, but I do think the McCanns should stop issuing statements to the media through their mouthpieces about how they are being tortured by the PJ’s conducting the investigation on their own timeline (and not jumping to the McCanns’ requests to ’speed things up’). They’re the main suspects in an investigation, for cripes sake. Where do they get off thinking they should be able to call the tunes?

An interesting post.
Personally I think the principle of listing the possibilities and addressing them is a good one, but the implementation is not robust or entirely valid.
Option 4 cannot be rejected on the apparent ’say so’ of friends of the McCanns as they will of course be biased and may not be honest - as to suggest that the McCanns were the type of people who did not take their responsibilities as seriously as they ought to would be to have decided that they did not want to be frioends with the McCanns anymore and to attract the interest of the press and the authorities!
Option 2 is naive in itself! We dont know if these people are good at their jobs or ‘cut out’ for them. Kate was not a GP until relatively recently (see GMC listing) and was only operating 2 days a week and in the relatively easy and disconnected job of locum. Gerry was trying to suplement his income in other ways - and seeking political position it would appear (his family have political connections and background).
We also do not actually know if it is true that they were neglectful, they may have been something even worse!
Accepting that some would say that it is impossible, especially if the blood is Madeleines (as it had been cleaned away).
In short, a good approach, but a little too much culling of ideas!

Ok I am ready to be persuaded, If the Taps 9 were not involved in the events of May the 1st to May the 3rd.
Then I am asuming that a person stole away from apartment 5A and that Miss Tanner saw the man .
So that leads me to the question. How did the man exit the apartment ??????
If you would please take the trouble to reply I am sure all on this forum could benefit.
Thank You.

THOSE UNLOCKED PATIO DOORS
A decision to leave 3 young children asleep, alone, out of sight and beyond earshot, in an unlocked holiday apartment confounds me. According to press reports, this situation obtained on the night Madeleine was declared missing and on previous nights, including that night that the parents left the premises and were located at Chaplins.
To be fair, a decision like this could be made by parents:
1. who felt there was sufficient reason (high security, frequent patrols of premises) to consider this a safe thing to do - and were assured by the establishment that it was a safe practice - or
2. who were naive and simply did not consider that ill could have befallen them or
3. who were under the influence of alcohol or drugs and whose judgement was momentarily impaired (impairment also accounting for a lack of decision and the doors accidentally being left unlocked) or
4. who were simply careless and not bothered about what could have happened in their absence or
5. who chose to leave the doors open to allow access to the apartment to others as part of some previously agreed plan.
Much has been made of the parents’ intelligence by press reporters, founded in their being doctors, so it is inconsistent to consider that they were naive (Explanation No. 2).
‘Sources close to’ the parents have also given the impression that an absence of care (Explanation No. 4) can also be ruled out.
That leaves us to consider that the patio doors may have been left unlocked because:
1. the parents felt there was sufficient reason (high security, frequent patrols of premises) to consider this a safe thing to do - and were assured by the establishment that it was a safe practice - or
3. the parents were under the influence of alcohol or drugs and judgement was momentarily impaired (impairment could also account for a lack of decision and the doors accidentally being left unlocked) or
5. the parents chose to leave the doors open to allow access to the apartment to others as part of some previously agreed plan.

From the home page of ‘I-just-do-as-I’m-told’ Hogan International, based in Room X, Floor Y, ‘run-down tower block’, Aldershot:
=================================
Good Afternoon Commercial organisations are as open to as wide a range of criminal and civil abuses as the products or services they offer. Add to that the international and language barriers to achieving justice; and the corporate nightmare becomes all too real. Traditional investigation companies have been rooted in their own specialisation and, often their own country. Hogan International was established in the 80’s as a modern alternative, with the technological advancement of the next millennium firmly in mind.
Each department comprises highly qualified personnel under the direct control of company founder Noel Hogan, a former Metropolitan Police Officer with many years experience. The development of Hogan International has involved heavy investment, not only in key people, but in modern technology and complementary skills.
Hogan International has become renowned for its work in the fields of: Tracing Missing Persons, Asset Investigations, Intellectual Property Infringement, Internal & External Financial Transaction Fraud, Surveillance, Electronic Security and all manner of Criminal Investigations acting for both Prosecution & Defence. It has earned international retainers from leading corporate organisations: Banks, Finance Houses, Insurers and The Legal Profession. Just how much of a force for change Hogan International has become we hope we will get the opportunity to demonstrate to you.

He also admitted that despite the high profile of the Madeleine investigation, his 12-strong team of former detectives and ex-SAS men were already handling around 5,000 cases.
Speaking from his office in a rundown tower block in Aldershot, Hants, Mr Hogan refused to say how much he was being paid. He said: ‘I don’t want to become part of the circus surrounding Madeleine. I am not allowed to go into operational detail and I just do what I am told.
