Madeleine McCann: McCann Incorporated, McCann Ink And Going Back To Portugal
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
SUNDAY MIRROR: “Tapas 7 in despair at all the ‘lies’”
They say they are also called the Tapas Nine? And the Sangria Seven
“The Tapas Seven are “in meltdown” over the failure of Portuguese police to make any meaningful progress in the hunt for Madeleine”
“IT’S OUR D-DAY - McCanns return to Portugal - EXCLUSIVE Kate and Gerry set date in April for Algarve showdown They’ll tell cops: show your evidence or clear us for good”. Like that D-Day back on November?
“Despairing Kate and Gerry McCann are planning to return to Portugal for a face-to-face showdown with police who think they killed their daughter Madeleine”
They are going back. Now..?
Well, not exactly: “A close friend said the the couple were likely to go back after their ‘D-Day’ of April 11, when their three-month extension is up, and added: ‘They feel they’ve waited long enough with this cloud of suspicion hanging over them. They know their return would be very high-profile. They believe investigators do not have the evidence against them to bring charges, and their presence in Portugal would embarrass them. They’ve so far held off going back there, but they see it as their trump card”
They will go back once they have been allowed to see the police first on them
Says the paper’s source: “They see April 11 as their D-day. They have decided to give the police reasonable time to clear them, or at least open the case files so they can see the evidence against them”
That’s good of them…
FIONA Philips, of GMTV writes: “Have a heart”. Yes, that Fiona Philips
“Unbelievably, every time I write about the McCanns I get messages saying, ‘I used to like you, until you started supporting the McCanns.’ Nice, eh? So I hope you’re happy now that Kate and Gerry have blamed themselves for Madeleine’s disappearance”
Happy?
“In a list of ‘if onlys’, Gerry said: ‘I wish I’d stayed in the apartment that night.’ Now, I expect more bile on praising them for considering making a documentary on the case. Surely you can’t tell me that there’s a parent out there who wouldn’t do anything possible to find their missing child?”
SUNDAY PEOPLE: “’We pray she’ll be at party for twins’”
“Brave Kate McCann is planning a huge birthday party for her twins - and dreams missing Maddie will be there too. Kate, 39, has vowed to go ahead with the bash for Sean and Amelie even though she is still waiting for cops to quiz her again. Mother-in-law Eileen said: ‘The party’s on and it will be an even bigger one if wee Madeleine is back. All we can do is hope and pray.’ Sean and Amelie turn three on February”
Touching stuff. Gerry McCann is a “heart specialist”
MAIL ON SUNDAY: “Madeleine: No film will be made unless she’s found - alive or dead”
“Kate and Gerry McCann have been told that the proposed documentary about their daughter’s disappearance can go ahead only if she is found – alive or dead.
A source says: “It was awkward to raise but there would need to be an ending – either Madeleine being found alive or a body being discovered. If this wasn’t the case, and there was a major development after filming and editing, it could render the documentary redundant”
Or the parents or some other person or persons are charged, perhaps?
THE OBSERVER: “A good week for … a bad week for …”
“A bad week for …
“Tradition – A Lib Dem MP called Lynne Featherstone has made a bid for the limelight by reporting the monarchy to the Equality Commission because it goes in for primogeniture”
“Marcus Agius The chairman of Barclay’s was the target of £10,000 fraud”
“Good Taste - Or indeed any taste at all. A London based agency which supplies celebrity doubles has employed a small girl to rent out as Madeleine McCann. 20 per cent”
It was a “good weeks for… Washing up”
“THE Maddie story is already a soap opera, so why the moral panic over a movie? - Don’t get me wrong - nobody wants to see Maddie: The Musical. However, needs must if the McCanns want to continue trying to find out what happened to their daughter and they do, despite the devastating expense (their somewhat unproductive detective agency alone costs £50,000 a month) and the increasingly shabby odds.”
Maddie: The Musical, eh..?
THE SUNDAY INDEPENDENT: “Strange case of the detectives trying to trace Madeleine”
“After a week when commercials deals were more apparent than clues, we investigate the investigators”. Why not investigate the case?
“Just when the Madeleine McCann saga couldn’t get any more agonising, along came a raft of developments last week that began to achieve what you would hope would be impossible: turning a little missing girl into an industry – Madeleine Inc. Item: a London agency hawking around various small girls as Madeleine lookalikes. Item: US television bringing a team of psychics to bear on the disappearance as part of what they no doubt hoped would be a money-spinner of a show. Item: her parents, Gerry and Kate McCann, exploring the possibility of selling the book and film rights to the case”
Madeleine became a brand long ago. Brand McCann…
“Madeleine Inc bring benefits to some, but not, so far, to the girl herself or her distraught parents”
Or Madeleine Ink – see the press
THE SUNDAY TIMES: Ron Liddle writes:
“So, get yourself ready for Maddie – The Movie (PG, until you fancy nipping out for something to eat). Kate and Gerry McCann’s press spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, has confirmed that the couple met with representatives from the US entertainment company IMG before Christmas and that while nothing was agreed, the meeting had been ‘positive’. A day later Gerry McCann hastily backtracked and said no, no, they weren’t planning a movie. Who to believe? And which British actors will Hollywood cast as the parents if there is a film? Sacha Baron Cohen and Catherine Tate? Am I bovvered? Look at my face – is it bovvered? And maybe Matt Lucas as the shady-looking Robert Murat? Norman Wisdom as the Portuguese chief of police?”

I’ve got quite a few links, but no newspaper link about Chaplins. I believe it was a forum rumour from someone claiming to have been told this by sources in PDL.
******
I’ve read it earlier and also today. It was on a link to an article, about mrs Fenn and others.
I’m off now, trying to find it.

Soothsayer posted before it was reported in the press about the useless DNA and that there was no CCTV footage from the tapas or the complex, saying that his information had been revised by his informant, that the PJ had nothing concrete also the phone records and taps were utterly useless, I may be wrong but I think he said in the very early threads, that he was involved in investigating mobile phone fraud with some sort of fancy software, with some big airtime company.

Sledgehammer I don’t think that is Soothsayers true position on the electronic evidence.

Out and back in again…skimming postings like I usually do to catch up. Yes, in fact, I knew beyond a doubt you’d find something irregular to justify your ruling on me re post. So I thought and ran through my mind every step I had taken on here while I was out what did I see or say before that posting and I recalled once I made that one I went back to see what else I could have missed. Now could I be lying - hell yes but not in my nature. I have ‘recall’ memory which comes in quite handy at times.
Tell you what Anorak I’ve had it after 3 1/2 years of being a loyal reader and writer on here.
As Maria said as she made her exit and thanks for putting up with my postings but I really “know what side your sympathies are on” and you showed it this afternoon. Gone down, Paul, you’ve gone real down hill to not let the others who refuse to kiss the asses of the anti-mcanns call it as they see it! But then…oh never mind I guess mine wasn’t considered satire, now was it!

There’s been a lot of speculation/debate as to the ‘pact of silence’.
I’ve been mulling this around for sometime so thought I might share it with you for your ’sleuthing’.
IMO - several of the T9 were at Uni together. Could something have happened at uni which they ‘covered up/pact of silence’ which binds them together in this? JMO.

I have been searching for the report on google but i’m not able to provide a link yet, it was from early on in the investigation and has probably been archived. I may have taken a copy, as soon as I find it I will let you know !
It went something like “two nights before” blah blah blah “the night they all went to chaplin’s bar”

I could not find anything on Google either other than in comments and blogs. Perhaps some member could search the Portuguese press for a reference to the Chaplin’s night?

Ian,
They are not pressed to prove abduction. It’s up to the police/prosecutor to find out what happened. Proove their theory, find the evidence and witnesses, make an arrest and bring charges.
It’s up to the people [their lawyers] who are charged, to proove the prosecutor/police is wrong.
It’s at a forum/over here people ask other people to prove there was an abduction.
Noone of us is able to prove anything. We can only speculate.
It is quite reasonable [imo] to think they try to evade charges for neglect, as some other T9 members do/would do. On the other hand that doesn’t make sense because the whole world knows they’ve left three [?] todlers alone in the apartment.
Re : Their strategy is and has always been totally transparent to anyone with a clear and keen mind - many such people post here!
I wouldn’t be too sure about that. I’ve seen many posts mixing up things printed in the papers [and how trustworthy are they?] and rumours they’ve read at this or other forums.
Look at the ongoing discussion about the Chaplin’s night!

In this case, I took the precaution of heading my post: ‘This is a list of lies - allegedly’, but perhaps that wasn’t enough; if that was the case, I am sorry. The list of ‘81 lies’ is still going strongly on that other forum and indeed has been added to by others

“I find it much more plausible that someone who is familiar with Mark Warner’s usual modus operandi assumed that the Ocean Club apartments were part of a gated compound organised and run in the usual way by Mark Warner”
An excellent post and your points are very valid IMO. In Praia de luz apparently Mark Warner Holidays had left the usual gated complex format as an experiment in integrating with an existing village, I read an article from a news reporter in April 2007 where the reporter was taken aback to exactly how far the Main Restaurant was away from her apartment, and how she had to hire a car before the end of the week just to ferry the kids around from place to place.

and the total lack of any evidence to support abduction ????
===========================
I have always made it perfectly clear that in my view there is no evidence to support the claim of a stranger abduction.
For that matter in my view there is no evidence to support the claim of a non-stranger abduction.
I have made it perfectly clear that in my view the most probable explanation is that Madeleine met with an accident whilst her parents were not there, and that, faced with the probable fate of imprisonment and the total destruction of their careers, the parents set about trying to cover it up by claiming that Madeleine had been abducted.
It seems likely that one or more of the Tapas 7 assisted in the cover up, not least because their own careers were placed in jeopardy also.

A huge crime was committed in PDL in May last year. And not exactly the perfect crime was it? I can’t understand how this has all happened, McCann coverage, the media coverage, the portuguese coverage, the spin, the money, publicity, the blogs, the websites - it’s grown to monstrous proportions. It really worries me that it seems like in this case, lies are better than the truth. In it all, where is that poor child now? It’s so big that it reaches every single level of humanity. It divides peoples’ opinion in many ways. What I would like to see is a ‘liar liar’ type of reporting (the movie) where no one could tell a lie - or else consequences.

I haven’t seen Chaplin’s being named either, but I do remember an article I read, months ago, that stated the the McCanns were off the resort (excluding the other restaurant as well), for at least one of the nights. Of course, not the night in question. I can’t seem to find it, I wonder if it was just edited out later? As it could have been a mistaken? But I know I did read it (it was an online article from the newspaper I’m afraid).

REPLY: I’m not sure what you mean. I’m not sure who ‘Mars’ and ‘agw’ are. Maybe I have missed something.
I may have speculated about something in this case, or others, that may be right or wrong.
I may have put forward arguments for certain possibilities in the Madeleine McCann case which might have been explored and found to be wanting.
I’m not aware of any actual claims that I’ve made that can be shown to have ‘been pruned’, still less found to be false, but no doubt if you wish to pursue the point, you’ll be able to give actual examples, i.e.chapter and verse
