Rosie O’Donnell On Britney Spears, Princess Of Hearts
SAYS Rosie O’Donnell on Britney Spears, via her blog:
“TWENTY SIX
I remember the tunnel as it appeared on the news, lit by headlights, flashlights, red lights. Between the cement tall pillars was a heap of twisted metal. I saw it then, and I can see it now. Diana dead.
She will be trying to get away, but they will chase her, just as they chased her into that church yesterday. There were dozens of them, jostling their way into sanctuary, elbowing past each other, just to creep closer to her. Even her last-minute, folded-hand prayers can’t be kept sacred. There can be no silent moments in a crowd; no silence, and no secrets.
All this fresh, painful frailty costs her so much, but it lines their pockets very well. A kings ransom was paid for those tabloid-ready cheap shots of her with messy hair, tear-soaked eyes, and the half-smile of a desperate baby girl.
‘I’m scared,’ she told them yesterday, when they later mobbed her at court. ‘Move back,’ she said. ‘I’m scared. Stop it. Stop it. I want to get back in the car. Just stop it. Let me get in the car, please.’
Sometimes it really is too much. Internal wires cross. Anxiety hits. Panic sets in the heart. Dread. Fear.
But she asked for it, she’s a public figure.
At eight years old, she bravely stood before a microphone. By 17, she had sold 25 million records. Where were the sidewalk-skinned knees, the chalk stained hands, the monkey bars, the passed notes? A Disney set is not a childhood, no matter how many bright colors they use, or how cheerful the script.
Not a girl, barely even a woman yet, they chased her. A mob of stalkers for whom no stalking laws have been written. Smother. Crush. Flash. Photo Credit. Even Dr. ‘Get Real’ Phil got in on the action. Unreal.
83 million albums sold so far. How many pictures?
The tunnel is crowded now. There are only inches of separation between vulnerability and disaster.”

It’s about time the unionized actors went on strike for protection from these parasites! Don’t make another show/movie whatever until you can carry on a normal life when you are not working. Stand up for yourselves!!!!

I agree with Rosie whole heartedly! I have a daughter who is the same age as Britney who dabbled in the entertainment industry briefly. I would cringe as a mother if I had to witness my daughter being stalked daily, no matter where she goes. Britney has been scrutinized since the day she became famous. Nothing she could do was ever right. Has Pink been chastized for the clothes she wears, Beyonce, and many others ? No, at least not to the degree Britney has. Why is it that an everyday person such as myself could call the police instantly and have someone arrested who invades mine or my families privacy? There needs to be a a stalking(paparazzi) law now!!When a star is at a restaurant, shopping or out for a walk, they are off the clock! It is unfair to think that because they are in the public eye that we are able to peer in on their private lives. I do not feel that Britney has asked for it. I feel she is just completely and utterley defeated. She has camera’s literally in her face at all times. She has lost her sense of privacy and this has affected her in a horrible way. It is so sad to see her like this. She is a changed girl for sure. Shame on the paparazzi, shame on the police officers who do not arrest these jerks, shame on the people who are making money off of her, and shame on people for buying these rags with Britney in it.
Rosie I’m a nursery school teacher from London, Ontario Canada as well as a published childrens author. It infuriates me when I see that poor girl. Is there a petition or anything in the works that will get a paparazzi law in place? I would sign it in a second and do anything to help.

you can’t make somebody better who won’t listen - numerous people seem to have tried and from the reports, it all gets chucked back in their faces. Money = power = surrounding yourself with “yes” men who will do and say anything to keep on the payroll…. the scumbag who is with her now is blatantly out for what he can get - sad to say, the best thing for her now would probably be if her parents had her sectioned.

Yes, you cannot turn the press on and off at will. And the tabloids love a good scandal, Britney’s the modern day freak show. Shame her kids have to suffer through it but at least they get enough to eat.

Britney asked for it though…and now has to put up with it. Perhaps she has that “something” wrong which needs attention. Where is her mother, her father, her other sister? Well, not much help from that one. Britney can only get help if she helps herself and will she do that, probably not.

She should carry capsicum spray. Oven cleaner does the same job and gets rid of grease too.

Rosie’s right.
That’s exactly what I was thinking when I saw that on the news.
If she can’t hold herself together much longer, which I think she’s doing a pretty good job of, considering, it’s the paparazzi that will get her in the end, like they did Diana.
Why do they have to get so close?? Is there no such thing as private space any more?
