The Paynes, who were on the 2nd floor, were said to be using the electronic device. Which couple was supposedly hired a babysitter? I have never heard that before.
I would assume the Paynes are not participating in the so-called “checking” and neither would the couple with a baby-sitter. But supposedly Oldfield is checking, and Tanner is checking, so who hired the babysitter?

Check our archives, but it was said several times that one couple had a baby sitter, and also that each couple had made their own arrangements, and were just responsible for their own children, and NOT checking on others in the party (T9).
Whether in actual fact that has changed by contradiction or in real fact finding by PJ, I do not know.
But the McCanns and Jane Tanner and partner did not have a baby monitoring/minding service at all

Watching Tanner’s description again, it’s obvious she’s talking crap (but possibly doesn’t know it). She can’t say she’s noticed a guy for wearing lots of clothes and then say it’s cold and that not be a contradiction.
She probably misremembered in a subconscious effort to be useful and now she’s stuck with it.

What bothers me most is the British gvt”s attitude in the case….the media are starting to forward critism.The public opinion is going to change.PJ working at it.

Well, it’s doubtful how well the baby monitor worked across a swimming pool and at the distance in question.
It still leaves the issue that if you did hear anything untoward you’ve got to get from the Tapas bar back to the apartment.
We use a baby monitor and trust me I doubt you’d here anything over the din of a group of diners and the ongoing quiz in which they were all allegedly so engrossed. Depending upon the monitor type, the flashing lights (when a sound is made) may attract your attention but you would have to then listen carefully/step away from the surrounding noise to hear what was going on.
Plenty of time between your position in the Tapas bar and the distance to the apartment for a child to choke or have a serious accident. Still negligent, in my opinion.
As Brandon has also pointed out, they claim to have left their children unattended on previous nights, for which there does appear to be supporting evidence, in that the McCann’s have never contradicted these reports. Possibly they went further afield than the Tapas Bar as well, though there is less evidence to support this assertion.
I have always been of the opinion that the alleged negligence is a key part of the cover up of events surrounding Madeleine’s disappearance. I’m also of the opinion that whatever fate may have befallen Madeleine probably occurred prior to the evening of May 3rd.

Have a look at what is on the market for baby monitors. The Tapas bar is just about on the limits of reception, for instance: http://www.rimax.net/ing/html/ficha_descripcion.asp?tipo_producto=47&id=317 “range : up to a 100m in clear space “. And as some have said before when you are out on the piss, having dinner, concentrating on a quiz, blah de blah, a baby monitor is makes not the most obvious sound - how often have we all missed our mobiles going off in those situations.
In my opinion baby monitors are designed for use within the house (nervous parent, them up in bed and you downstairs - that’s what we used one for when our childrfen were babes) or at a push the garden not for looking after your kids when you are out boozing.

Would be interesting to be able verify whether the British Police specifically are investigating the actions of Team McCann, their family and friends subsequent to events of May 3rd. I suspect that verification of such investigations will have to await charges and/or trials relating specifically to Madeleine’s disappearance?
I don’t buy a daily paper, though I scan read the headlines when I wander into our local shop/newsagent. However, between my scanning and watching TV news reports and BBC and Sky news websites I don’t detect that the UK media is portraying any real negative public opinion towards the McCann’s.
What’s interesting, well to me anyway, is that if I engage in conversation with random purchasers of a daily newspaper containing some Madeleine related headline they mostly are dismissive of the protestations of innocence emanating from Team McCann. In fact, I couldn’t possibly repeat what has been said to me on several occasions because it’s outrageously libellous!
So, from my completely unscientific “research”, I would say that UK public opinion is probably similar to Spanish and Portuguese public opinion, but for some reason the UK media continues to ignore public opinion, in my opinion of course!

Naturally, I will do no more than cite this passage. Also, you might consider that though the McCanns are the focus of attention, they are not the “leaders” of the group that was taking a holiday. Moreover, the group was obviously larger than 9 people (as in T9). For example, Jill Renwick was there “with the McCanns”, according to a Reuters report. She was also said to have holidayed with them in 2002, so it may have been a tradition. But Jill did not eat dinner with the doctors, and her presence in PDL was never mentioned again after that initial Reuters report.
Notice that both O’Donnel and the two witness-sisters claimed to have “gotten to know” the McCanns during this holiday. However, those sisters and/or O’Donnel/Wilkins could have been part of the “group” that went on holiday together at PDL, even if they are telling the truth that they only got to know the McCanns after joining this group.
What I am saying is that the group of doctors was just a sub-set of the group holidaying together.
How many guests were there in total at the Ocean Club at the time of the disappearnce? Well, it was reported that there were only “6o staff and guests” there at the time. So if you know how many staff were there, subtract that and you have the number of guests. Then ask how many of these guests were staying there as a “group”? Whatever the answer is, it wil definitely be more than those 4 doctor families. And yet why has this been totally ignored by the media which refuses to do any “investigative journalism”?
Could it be because the group itself was composed of people in the media? Weren’t “the doctors” (as O’Donnel called them) just a part of this group?
Patch, your own guesses at the possible factor motivating a cover-up by the McCanns are not bad guesses at all, and may be sufficient to explain in the entirety. But the lurking suspicions about “T-10″ or even T-11 or T-16, leave room for the doubt that the motivation is not purely a McCann motivation.
There is even the possibility that the McCanns are lying about leaving the children alone. It could be that whoever was “supervising” the children (and there was a report that all of the children were together in one apartment, except for one child) does not want to be identified. If this were so, the McCanns may be under pressure to lie about leaving the children alone, as the alternative bringing the least destruction down upon them.
This is just meant as food for thought speculation, and nothing more.

I honestly don’t know the answer to that. I could be very wrong, I’m just expressing an opinion, but I would be surprised if DNA could tell you whether a person(s) was in an apartment on say May 1st, but not May 2nd, and again on May 3rd. Surely all DNA would be able to tell you is that a person(s) had been in an apartment/location recently?
So, if it’s not the DNA that allegedly tells the PJ that the seven children were there on the evening of May 3rd, what is it? Keeping in mind all the time that the rumour about the seven children in the apartment has never been confirmed in the public domain.

Actually, you raised a possibly very important point in your post 136 above, that Madeleine was sadly already dead and in fact in an apartment other than 5A.
What if the real story about the alleged seven children in 5A was in fact that the PJ had evidence that placed Madeleine’s body in another apartment but for whatever reason that hasn’t been leaked?
