Madeleine McCann: Kate McCann’s Hairdresser, A Suspect Look And Amaral
MADDYWATCH – Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
NEWS OF THE WORLD front page: “MADDY’S KIDNAPPER – Beast who took McCann’s little girl”
A “WORLD EXCLUSIVE”
The paper says the witness, Gail Cooper, was staying with her family 600 yards from the McCann’s apartment in Praia da Luz.
She told the police of a “creepy man” in the area. A picture of the man has been produced
Gary Thompson, an associate editor at the News of the World, tells the BBC the picture was being taken seriously. Well, it on the front page. “The picture has been passed to Interpol, police in Portugal and also in Leicestershire, so the important thing is – who is he? Where is he now?” he asks.
“We’ll be urging all our readers in the morning to get in touch with the authorities if they’ve got any information at all about this man”
Is he the man who abducted Madeleine McCann? Or was Mrs Cooper listening to The Beatles at the time?
SUNDAY MIRROR: “THE MAN WHO RAN OFF WITH MADDY?
EXCLUSIVE Hunt for Madeleine: Day 262 First image of suspect”
Or the second image…
“This is the face of a stalker now believed to have snatched Madeleine McCann. The image is a former FBI artist’s impression based on a detailed description given by a key British witness. It clearly reveals the features of a moustachioed man – who was carrying a little girl in pink pyjamas, believed to be four-year-old Maddie”
It’s a photofit, an artist’s impression. Like this FBI picture of Madeleine
The original photofit issued by Portuguese police showed only a round egg-shaped head and blank face and was widely criticised as being useless. The Sun had an eFit. Jane Tanner’s efit had hair and a jacket
The man is “thought to be aged between 38 and 45. He has sallow skin, lank dark hair, large teeth and a distinctive droopy moustache. The suspect, who is said to have spoken in broken English, knocked on the door of Mrs [Sarah] Cooper’s apartment claiming to be collecting for charity. Mrs Cooper says: ‘He made my blood run cold – he gave me the creeps. My judgment is that this man was very suspicious and could have been the kidnapper’”
EXCLUSIVE – Picture of man who gave woman the CREEPS!
“262 DAYS MISSING AND.. MADDY’S BLUNDER COP BACK ON CASE – “Lazy Goncalo Amaral – fired from the investigation after the Sunday Mirror exposed his long, boozy lunches – has held a string of meetings with new chief detective Paulo Rebelo”
The Mirror is on the case. It got Amaral. It got “creepy” Robert Murat. But now Amaral is back. Says the paper: “The move will be a massive blow to parents Kate and Gerry.” It will be “heartbreaking for 39-year-old doctors Kate and Gerry”. Why? Was Amaral the casue of their problem?
DAILY STAR: “SPANISH COPS SHOW UP MADDIE FLAWS”
The Spanish police are looking for Mari Luis Cortes. Says the Star: “Friends of Kate and Gerry McCann say missing Madeleine might have been found by now – if Spanish police had been involved”
Maris Luis Cortes has yet to be found
Says a friend of McCanns of the Portuguese police: “They acted like real amateurs, so it’s no wonder they don’t seem to be getting anywhere finding Madeleine”
The Portuguese police also named the McCanns as suspects
SUNDAY EXPRESS front page: “McCANNS SPLIT BY AGONY OF MADDY”
“The lives of Kate and Gerry McCann are moving in “opposite directions” because they have developed strikingly different ways of coping with the disappearance of their daughter Madeleine”
We are watching the parents
“Kate is living the life of a semi-recluse as she focuses on being a stay-at-home mother, virtually shutting herself off from the supportive community around her. Gerry, meanwhile, has thrown himself into working full time as a heart specialist during the week, while running the campaign to find four-year-old Madeleine in the evenings and at weekends”
And Kate McCann: “Kate has abandoned the village routine she once shared with Madeleine. She no longer has her hair styled at Dawn Newcombe’s salon, which she regularly visited with Madeleine. Her mother normally takes the twins for haircuts when she is staying”
One of the stylists says: “She was almost in tears as she watched them and my heart went out to her.”
Such is the news in the search for Madeleine McCann
SUNDAY INDEPENDENT: “Maddy’s off the front page”
“Followers of the Madeleine McCann story have been able to depend on the ‘Evening Standard’ to clear the front page for any development. So how come a potential breakthrough, with police looking into the disappearance of another little girl near Praia da Luz, was buried on page 17? The answer is: sales fell by 10,000 the last two times Maddy made the cover, so the news desk have been told to curb their Maddy enthusiasm. If only they’d tell the ‘Express’ to do likewise”

Poppy – there is a pro blog on anorak – that was moved over the last few days – a great place to go if you want a fight I’ve got the link on the main pc and will post it tomorrow – maybe we can all go on a ‘raid’
————————————————————————————————————————————–
See what I mean Mods and Admin – What a childish lot!!!! As far as I am concerned all I can see is that the fate of Madeleine comes second to their childish behaviour. I’m afraid I’ve found to my cost that Anorak isn’t for me, I’m too involved with the safe return of Madeleine to waste my time reading comments like the above. Garth seems to be the only one who is genuinely concerned about the McCanns, but I can’t stay around reading all the drivel that is posted waiting for his enlightening contribution.

What a wonderful start of the week.More slandering.WHY do they put their snotty-snob nose where they shouldnt? Is this because it is proven that Mari”s kidnap is REAL and doesnt bear any similarity with Madeleine….? please, tell me.
When is this going to end?
True.No news from Mari, poor little mite but here in spain,INCLUDING the cops know it is a sad case of feud between 2 different kinds of gypsies.
Can I SUE them? shall we sue them?

a remark i made about overweight granny Gill Cooper probably eating Madeline was deleted. The reason behind my comment was that according to the news this woman is a good judge of character and labeled the guy with the mustache ‘creepy’ and ‘weird’, which I find offensive. If i were forced to judge Gail Cooper on looks I would say she has big denial problems and has been eating up her feelings for years with excess carbs like mars bars etc. It’s a bit like ‘Outraged of Tonbridge Wells spots lone man in rain on beach mystery, shock horror’ . Gail is some sort of provincial social services worker and therefore obviously an expert, the police should consult her more often on all sorts of matters. I expect she knows all about half wit chav munter granny issues.

Oh Sh*t! I’d not spotted that. Does this mean the American’s are likely to bomb PDL to smoke the worlds most wanted out of his hiding place?

This is the first Madeleine story to run on CNN.com in a couple months, I think. And you know, this guy, he looks suspiciously like my creepy neighbor, the one who stole our chainsaw, here in the American Southwest. Coincidence? I just don’t know.
January 21st, 2008 at 3:06 am
Looking at the sketch of the handsome fellow, I think they’ve made him look like a gipsy so that they can say Madeleine was abducted by the same person as Mari. I find it hard to believe the story about little Mari – whatever’s happening???

1081 Can’t say no
Don’t get worried, can’t say no. I don’t think anyone believes anything they say now. I wonder how that Cooper woman remembers the dates of when she supposedly “saw” the abductor on three different days. Even if this man exists, I think it’s unlikely that he’d show himself all around the resort, knocking on doors and looking very suspicious, if he was planning an abduction.
Where’s the man who said the abductor knocked on his patio doors when his children were in bed? Is this the same family or a different one?
How come all these people are suddenly remembering seeing suspicious people all those months ago. I don’t believe they reported it to the PJ at the time. Sara Cooper only thought of it, apparently, after returning home. Who are these people? Are they getting paid for interviews or something?

The situation must be getting desperate for “someone” after all this time, to bring this information out re the “abductor”. The more information that comes out about imaginery abductor the tighter the noose.

I don’t regret anything I’ve written here and will not, even if it is proven that there was an abduction that the McCanns had nothing to do with. It all comes down to what a person has posted and I’ve never written anything but that I suspected they know more about what happened to Madeleine than they are telling the PJ and the public and are being dishonest. I also believe the PJ are not the incompetent buffoons or corrupt police force that McCann supporters would like us to believe they are.
The McCanns have behaved as if they are more important than the average Joe and have displayed ugly tendencies which most of us here find repulsive.
They have reaped the whirlwind they have sown. They blame others when their own supposed, admitted lack of care for their children put Madeleine in jeopardy and was the root cause of her disappearance, if indeed she was abducted, or if there was an accident that they subsequently covered up. Yet they and their ‘team’ are quick to point fingers elsewhere condemning others for not doing enough to find their daughter, when more has been done to find this little girl than any other missing child in the history of the planet.
But the bottom line is, I trust the PJ. If they have evidence that points to Madeleine’s death before the claim of abduction was made, as they have publicly stated, then I think there will never be a day where any anti-McCann will have to hang his head in shame. I’m not a betting woman, but if I were, I would bet on that. There may never be a formal arrest or charge or a final conclusion to the mystery of Madeleine McCann, but I am almost certain there will never be definitive evidence that will clear the McCanns.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………
Well said Jolie ….. I agree with every word you have written in this post and congratulate you on putting it so well.
I hope against hope that Madeleine will be found but in my heart I doubt it very much. Whether or not she is found the McCanns are certainly guilty of leaving three tiny children alone in an unlocked apartment. The risk of them waking and getting up to mischief/wandering off/coming to harm while unsupervised had to be quite high …. unless of course they were sedated. My own children were quite capable of climbing out of their cots by the time they were 18 months old, let alone 2 yrs.
A CAUTIONARY TALE
I once made the mistake of leaving two of my children (then 3 and 14 months) in the ‘care’ of a neighbour’s husband whilst his wife and I went on a ‘hen night’ of one of our friends. We lived in adjoining flats in a converted farmhouse. The arrangement was that he stay at home in their flat with their new baby and go in to check on my children in our flat every half hour. BUT, he told me later, as their bedroom (yes, they did sleep in the same room, in a cot and bed) was next to his front door he did not bother to actually go in but just listened at their window …… as all was quiet he presumed all was well.
All certainly wasn’t well ……. I got home to find my children playing happily in complete darkness in the hallway, having pulled out everything they could find in the hall cupboard (young son had climbed out of his cot – first time ever). They must have also been playing with the light switches as all the fuses had blown, so complete darkness. And I’d been thinking that I’d made a proper arrangement for their safety? – how wrong I was. I was so very very lucky that they had neither injured themselves nor wandered outside into the night …. it was a very stern lesson learned for a young mum of 21.

Peter – do you ever consider the possiblility that we may have it wrong and the maddie was abducted. I am usually pretty adament that the mcc’s know more than they are admitting to (at the very least) and i can never agree with their child care practices – but occassionally (just occasionally mind) I wonder what if they are actually being truthful
Edit…
+++++++++++++++++
I don’t have the slightest clue about what may actually have happened to poor Madeleine. I don’t however consider abduction, certainly not as suggested by the McCann’s, as a very likely scenario.
I’m quite happy to debate scenarios with fellow posters but I do try to stop short of accusing the McCann’s, or anyone else for that matter, of specific acts in relation to Madeleine’s disappearance because to do so is just pure speculation, in my opinion.
I am however fairly convinced that the McCann’s, and possibly their friends/some family, do know rather more about events leading up to and following Madeleine’s disappearance.
Like you, I do sometimes wonder if there isn’t some truth within the statements that emanate from Team McCann. Stuff like they didn’t harm Madeleine doesn’t preclude them knowing who may have done. However, since we don’t know which is true and which is spin it’s all speculation. Save that I do maintain that they are not telling us everything.
All my opinion, supposition with no evidence to support it.
And with that, I am off to bed! Good night.
