Madeleine McCann: Kate McCann’s Hairdresser, A Suspect Look And Amaral
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
NEWS OF THE WORLD front page: “MADDY’S KIDNAPPER – Beast who took McCann’s little girl”
A “WORLD EXCLUSIVE”
The paper says the witness, Gail Cooper, was staying with her family 600 yards from the McCann’s apartment in Praia da Luz.
She told the police of a “creepy man” in the area. A picture of the man has been produced
Gary Thompson, an associate editor at the News of the World, tells the BBC the picture was being taken seriously. Well, it on the front page. “The picture has been passed to Interpol, police in Portugal and also in Leicestershire, so the important thing is - who is he? Where is he now?” he asks.
“We’ll be urging all our readers in the morning to get in touch with the authorities if they’ve got any information at all about this man”
Is he the man who abducted Madeleine McCann? Or was Mrs Cooper listening to The Beatles at the time?
SUNDAY MIRROR: “THE MAN WHO RAN OFF WITH MADDY?
EXCLUSIVE Hunt for Madeleine: Day 262 First image of suspect”
Or the second image…
“This is the face of a stalker now believed to have snatched Madeleine McCann. The image is a former FBI artist’s impression based on a detailed description given by a key British witness. It clearly reveals the features of a moustachioed man - who was carrying a little girl in pink pyjamas, believed to be four-year-old Maddie”
It’s a photofit, an artist’s impression. Like this FBI picture of Madeleine
The original photofit issued by Portuguese police showed only a round egg-shaped head and blank face and was widely criticised as being useless. The Sun had an eFit. Jane Tanner’s efit had hair and a jacket
The man is “thought to be aged between 38 and 45. He has sallow skin, lank dark hair, large teeth and a distinctive droopy moustache. The suspect, who is said to have spoken in broken English, knocked on the door of Mrs [Sarah] Cooper’s apartment claiming to be collecting for charity. Mrs Cooper says: ‘He made my blood run cold - he gave me the creeps. My judgment is that this man was very suspicious and could have been the kidnapper’”
EXCLUSIVE – Picture of man who gave woman the CREEPS!
“262 DAYS MISSING AND.. MADDY’S BLUNDER COP BACK ON CASE – “Lazy Goncalo Amaral - fired from the investigation after the Sunday Mirror exposed his long, boozy lunches - has held a string of meetings with new chief detective Paulo Rebelo”
The Mirror is on the case. It got Amaral. It got “creepy” Robert Murat. But now Amaral is back. Says the paper: “The move will be a massive blow to parents Kate and Gerry.” It will be “heartbreaking for 39-year-old doctors Kate and Gerry”. Why? Was Amaral the casue of their problem?
DAILY STAR: “SPANISH COPS SHOW UP MADDIE FLAWS”
The Spanish police are looking for Mari Luis Cortes. Says the Star: “Friends of Kate and Gerry McCann say missing Madeleine might have been found by now – if Spanish police had been involved”
Maris Luis Cortes has yet to be found
Says a friend of McCanns of the Portuguese police: “They acted like real amateurs, so it’s no wonder they don’t seem to be getting anywhere finding Madeleine”
The Portuguese police also named the McCanns as suspects
SUNDAY EXPRESS front page: “McCANNS SPLIT BY AGONY OF MADDY”
“The lives of Kate and Gerry McCann are moving in “opposite directions” because they have developed strikingly different ways of coping with the disappearance of their daughter Madeleine”
We are watching the parents
“Kate is living the life of a semi-recluse as she focuses on being a stay-at-home mother, virtually shutting herself off from the supportive community around her. Gerry, meanwhile, has thrown himself into working full time as a heart specialist during the week, while running the campaign to find four-year-old Madeleine in the evenings and at weekends”
And Kate McCann: “Kate has abandoned the village routine she once shared with Madeleine. She no longer has her hair styled at Dawn Newcombe’s salon, which she regularly visited with Madeleine. Her mother normally takes the twins for haircuts when she is staying”
One of the stylists says: “She was almost in tears as she watched them and my heart went out to her.”
Such is the news in the search for Madeleine McCann
SUNDAY INDEPENDENT: “Maddy’s off the front page”
“Followers of the Madeleine McCann story have been able to depend on the ‘Evening Standard’ to clear the front page for any development. So how come a potential breakthrough, with police looking into the disappearance of another little girl near Praia da Luz, was buried on page 17? The answer is: sales fell by 10,000 the last two times Maddy made the cover, so the news desk have been told to curb their Maddy enthusiasm. If only they’d tell the ‘Express’ to do likewise”

Jo - whatever the outcome of the case - IMO there won’t be a positive outcome for the twins - poor little mites
+++++++++++++
Indeed, whatever the outcome(s) of this case there will sadly be a lot of innocent victims who will for one reason or another have been sucked into this whole sorry affair. Madeleine and the twins are the three most obvious, but there will be other family and friends too.

Correcto.The PJ is confident and above all very patient….with the Uk I am afraid to say without,I hope,hurting any feelings.
Anyhow,as I said to poppy,the mccafools will be arguidos for the rest of their life if nothing is concluded which is a great possibility,considering the “Fools”s connections…..they will have to live with remorse and guilt all their life.In this case,of course,we will never know what has happened to madeleine….The deads teach the livings.

I feel sorry for Robert Murats little girl, her mother and for that matter his mother. The pro’s have absolutely slaughtered him, especially on the SKY blog. I only on there to have a fight.
Fingers crossed re PJ. If their evidence comes good I would love to see Tony Parsons publicly humiliated.

Well don’t all fictional baddies actually have some basis in historic (probably ancient) truth? Stories are re-told down the generations and enhanced and embellished along the way. I just hope this children’s fantasy has a satisfactory conclusion.

+++++++++++++++
Time will tell, hopefully. However, I always thought that Mr Amaral’s removal from the investigation was deliberately engineered/manufactured in order to undermine the blatant media smearing of him that was rampant at the time. I wouldn’t be surprised to discover that his services had been retained by Mr Rebello, albeit his involvement may have been kept quiet.
I hope that the suggestion that Mr Rebello has reappointed Mr Amaral, or is at least considering it, is a clear sign that the PJ are confident of their case(s) against whomever for whatever. If this re-appointment does occur and is announced in a public fashion I dare say it’ll cause some discomfort in Rothley.

It is late in the day to approach such a big subject.It has become a real mess affecting everybody,countries,prosecution system,media….but we must always keep in mind that the most “affected” of all is a little child.
Now,for what I read in the spanish media,it is not as biaised as in the uk.It has been at the start but now,people are just fed up with the whole lot.
The PJ has never lost its “cool&quiet” despite the tremendous agitation around.They will finish their job and IF they cant prove anything,the mccanns will stay arguidos for a very big chunk of their life.
I DO feel sorry for the little twins……

Why is the media so biased? The ITN report was ridiculous. This is an ongoing investigation yet they omit crucial factors of evidence when they mention the Mcs. Is a obvious ploy to sway public opinion - Why are they all up Clarries arse?
I hope to God the PJ keep their cool and don’t give in to Brit Press pressure.

Sorry I didn’t comment on your suggestion of the name “tooth fairy”, it’s not a bad one and anyway I am not the judge of this “competition”, hopefully the result will be decided democratically.
Whatever we call him I think the suspect will now have shaved off his moustache and had a no1 cut and will be away on the “tooth ferry.”
I asked Sledgehammer if he was sceptical about the cadaver dogs - anyone see his answer?
Finally, is Gail Cooper related to Gilly Cooper?

Good news! look dreadful Amaral is back on the case….his dismissal has been such a swift,clever tactic.In fact,he never “left”.As I said earlier in the day he has been parked….out for the time being and suddenly,”surfaces”….how strange from the PJ….what do you think?
+++++++++++
Well, as I posted earlier today. If the rumour about Amaral is true, then either Mr Rebello has taken complete leave of his senses or he has the most wicked sense of humour!
It would be nice to think it was the latter and that Mr Amaral has been invited back in order to deliver the coup de grace.
