The paper says the witness, Gail Cooper, was staying with her family 600 yards from the McCann’s apartment in Praia da Luz.
She told the police of a “creepy man” in the area. A picture of the man has been produced
Gary Thompson, an associate editor at the News of the World, tells the BBC the picture was being taken seriously. Well, it on the front page. “The picture has been passed to Interpol, police in Portugal and also in Leicestershire, so the important thing is - who is he? Where is he now?” he asks.
“We’ll be urging all our readers in the morning to get in touch with the authorities if they’ve got any information at all about this man”
Is he the man who abducted Madeleine McCann? Or was Mrs Cooper listening to The Beatles at the time?

The original photofit issued by Portuguese police showed only a round egg-shaped head and blank face and was widely criticised as being useless. The Sun had an eFit. Jane Tanner’s efit had hair and a jacket
The man is “thought to be aged between 38 and 45. He has sallow skin, lank dark hair, large teeth and a distinctive droopy moustache. The suspect, who is said to have spoken in broken English, knocked on the door of Mrs [Sarah] Cooper’s apartment claiming to be collecting for charity. Mrs Cooper says: ‘He made my blood run cold - he gave me the creeps. My judgment is that this man was very suspicious and could have been the kidnapper’”

The Spanish police are looking for Mari Luis Cortes. Says the Star: “Friends of Kate and Gerry McCann say missing Madeleine might have been found by now – if Spanish police had been involved”
Maris Luis Cortes has yet to be found
Says a friend of McCanns of the Portuguese police: “They acted like real amateurs, so it’s no wonder they don’t seem to be getting anywhere finding Madeleine”
The Portuguese police also named the McCanns as suspects

One of the stylists says: “She was almost in tears as she watched them and my heart went out to her.”

Detective Inspectot Clarence Mitchell held a Conference today for
Sky TV.
Obviously a very recent Polioce addition to the Investigation.
His lack of experience showed rather embarrassingly as he insisted
that he would NOT be taking any questions but if anyone present
wished to contact him for a 1to1 interview they could do so.
He mumbled and muttered his way through the rest of the Conference,
notable only for how amateurish the New Inspector performed.

Sorry to be pedant, but the sketch is neither a Photofit nor an E-FIT.
It is a sketch.
Photofit is the system which uses bits of real photos of real people, so you start with a blank face, like the eggman, then add a nose from a box full of nose photos, eyes, mouth, and so on. You end up with a very distinctive looking composite which has all the edges of the pieces of photos still in place.
E-FIT is a similar thing using a computer, which is supposed to be better. It isn’t. It still depends on the ability of the witness to recall accurately what they saw, which is not easy, and on the ability of the operator to put it all together.
A sketch is always going to be a charicature, as the artist will naturally emphasise each detail s/he is given. Hence the werewolf teeth of today’s nonsense.
But I agree it does look uncannily like the late George Harrison.
