Madeleine McCann: Kate McCann’s Hairdresser, A Suspect Look And Amaral
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
NEWS OF THE WORLD front page: “MADDY’S KIDNAPPER – Beast who took McCann’s little girl”
A “WORLD EXCLUSIVE”
The paper says the witness, Gail Cooper, was staying with her family 600 yards from the McCann’s apartment in Praia da Luz.
She told the police of a “creepy man” in the area. A picture of the man has been produced
Gary Thompson, an associate editor at the News of the World, tells the BBC the picture was being taken seriously. Well, it on the front page. “The picture has been passed to Interpol, police in Portugal and also in Leicestershire, so the important thing is - who is he? Where is he now?” he asks.
“We’ll be urging all our readers in the morning to get in touch with the authorities if they’ve got any information at all about this man”
Is he the man who abducted Madeleine McCann? Or was Mrs Cooper listening to The Beatles at the time?
SUNDAY MIRROR: “THE MAN WHO RAN OFF WITH MADDY?
EXCLUSIVE Hunt for Madeleine: Day 262 First image of suspect”
Or the second image…
“This is the face of a stalker now believed to have snatched Madeleine McCann. The image is a former FBI artist’s impression based on a detailed description given by a key British witness. It clearly reveals the features of a moustachioed man - who was carrying a little girl in pink pyjamas, believed to be four-year-old Maddie”
It’s a photofit, an artist’s impression. Like this FBI picture of Madeleine
The original photofit issued by Portuguese police showed only a round egg-shaped head and blank face and was widely criticised as being useless. The Sun had an eFit. Jane Tanner’s efit had hair and a jacket
The man is “thought to be aged between 38 and 45. He has sallow skin, lank dark hair, large teeth and a distinctive droopy moustache. The suspect, who is said to have spoken in broken English, knocked on the door of Mrs [Sarah] Cooper’s apartment claiming to be collecting for charity. Mrs Cooper says: ‘He made my blood run cold - he gave me the creeps. My judgment is that this man was very suspicious and could have been the kidnapper’”
EXCLUSIVE – Picture of man who gave woman the CREEPS!
“262 DAYS MISSING AND.. MADDY’S BLUNDER COP BACK ON CASE – “Lazy Goncalo Amaral - fired from the investigation after the Sunday Mirror exposed his long, boozy lunches - has held a string of meetings with new chief detective Paulo Rebelo”
The Mirror is on the case. It got Amaral. It got “creepy” Robert Murat. But now Amaral is back. Says the paper: “The move will be a massive blow to parents Kate and Gerry.” It will be “heartbreaking for 39-year-old doctors Kate and Gerry”. Why? Was Amaral the casue of their problem?
DAILY STAR: “SPANISH COPS SHOW UP MADDIE FLAWS”
The Spanish police are looking for Mari Luis Cortes. Says the Star: “Friends of Kate and Gerry McCann say missing Madeleine might have been found by now – if Spanish police had been involved”
Maris Luis Cortes has yet to be found
Says a friend of McCanns of the Portuguese police: “They acted like real amateurs, so it’s no wonder they don’t seem to be getting anywhere finding Madeleine”
The Portuguese police also named the McCanns as suspects
SUNDAY EXPRESS front page: “McCANNS SPLIT BY AGONY OF MADDY”
“The lives of Kate and Gerry McCann are moving in “opposite directions” because they have developed strikingly different ways of coping with the disappearance of their daughter Madeleine”
We are watching the parents
“Kate is living the life of a semi-recluse as she focuses on being a stay-at-home mother, virtually shutting herself off from the supportive community around her. Gerry, meanwhile, has thrown himself into working full time as a heart specialist during the week, while running the campaign to find four-year-old Madeleine in the evenings and at weekends”
And Kate McCann: “Kate has abandoned the village routine she once shared with Madeleine. She no longer has her hair styled at Dawn Newcombe’s salon, which she regularly visited with Madeleine. Her mother normally takes the twins for haircuts when she is staying”
One of the stylists says: “She was almost in tears as she watched them and my heart went out to her.”
Such is the news in the search for Madeleine McCann
SUNDAY INDEPENDENT: “Maddy’s off the front page”
“Followers of the Madeleine McCann story have been able to depend on the ‘Evening Standard’ to clear the front page for any development. So how come a potential breakthrough, with police looking into the disappearance of another little girl near Praia da Luz, was buried on page 17? The answer is: sales fell by 10,000 the last two times Maddy made the cover, so the news desk have been told to curb their Maddy enthusiasm. If only they’d tell the ‘Express’ to do likewise”

I asked a friend who is a police officer for his view of this issue and he said that he and most of his colleagues do not believe the McCanns harmed Madeleine.

Odd! There was a poster here about 4 weeks ago, who’s buddies with a Met Officer, and they claim that their version is that they don’t believe a thing the Mc’s say ….. so there’s your version of your friend’s views, and there’s the other poster’s version …. !!!!

Those of you who been around for a while know that none of the Administrators or Moderators have a group view on the rights and wrongs of anything at all. Occasionally one Moderator or another may make a personal remark and it is generally clear when that is.
Sledgehammer and others have once again discussed the laws of libel. They are simple you may not defame anyone (a tort) if it is untrue. A brief précis of it can found in the Anorak Forum by following the link at the bottom of this.
Take a look and understand that if administrators see an offending remark they will pull it. If they miss it, the consquences for the poster are dire if the person(s) libelled decide to take action. Remember that if you repeat a posting from elsewhere which contains a libel…it is a new and separately actionable libel.
If, when you read the Forum, article you want to comment or question please sign on there and debate off the opinion section.
We do not want to rule this section with a rod of iron but you all know by now the team is made of very stern stuff sometimes.
If it helps at all, know this, no-one is bigger than Anorak, not one of us.
I am proud of what Paul Sorene and the team has built here and if anyone sets out to damage it I will react with a fury and speed not many of you who do not know me can fully appreciate. That not a threat, it is the way it would be.
I think this section and the posters contributing to it are showing a level of cut and thrust most Forums lack and would dearly like to know the secret.
Well done keep it up..but keep it legal. -agw

“Another thought… If the rumoured public reappointment of Mr Ameral is true… Is this because Mr Rebello has taken complete leave of his senses or is he just ensuring that the right person delivers the coups de grâce?”
both possible - especially the revenge is sweet aspect in the latter
i don’t believe the former
or maybe (3) he’s done it to piss them off
he seems to be doing lots of things lately - one by one on a drip feed - to piss them off
like preventing them from seeing their files
great sport

Here is my suggestion….Because Kate hardly ever saw her own kids and they might not recognise her as their mother, every day she’d pinch Maddie and the twins favourite toys and take them to work. This way, when she met them again, theyd be very excited and would come to her to get their toys back (before running away clutching them close and screaming ‘daddy, daddy (whose my) Daddy!’
