Madeleine McCann: Kate McCann’s Hairdresser, A Suspect Look And Amaral
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
NEWS OF THE WORLD front page: “MADDY’S KIDNAPPER – Beast who took McCann’s little girl”
A “WORLD EXCLUSIVE”
The paper says the witness, Gail Cooper, was staying with her family 600 yards from the McCann’s apartment in Praia da Luz.
She told the police of a “creepy man” in the area. A picture of the man has been produced
Gary Thompson, an associate editor at the News of the World, tells the BBC the picture was being taken seriously. Well, it on the front page. “The picture has been passed to Interpol, police in Portugal and also in Leicestershire, so the important thing is - who is he? Where is he now?” he asks.
“We’ll be urging all our readers in the morning to get in touch with the authorities if they’ve got any information at all about this man”
Is he the man who abducted Madeleine McCann? Or was Mrs Cooper listening to The Beatles at the time?
SUNDAY MIRROR: “THE MAN WHO RAN OFF WITH MADDY?
EXCLUSIVE Hunt for Madeleine: Day 262 First image of suspect”
Or the second image…
“This is the face of a stalker now believed to have snatched Madeleine McCann. The image is a former FBI artist’s impression based on a detailed description given by a key British witness. It clearly reveals the features of a moustachioed man - who was carrying a little girl in pink pyjamas, believed to be four-year-old Maddie”
It’s a photofit, an artist’s impression. Like this FBI picture of Madeleine
The original photofit issued by Portuguese police showed only a round egg-shaped head and blank face and was widely criticised as being useless. The Sun had an eFit. Jane Tanner’s efit had hair and a jacket
The man is “thought to be aged between 38 and 45. He has sallow skin, lank dark hair, large teeth and a distinctive droopy moustache. The suspect, who is said to have spoken in broken English, knocked on the door of Mrs [Sarah] Cooper’s apartment claiming to be collecting for charity. Mrs Cooper says: ‘He made my blood run cold - he gave me the creeps. My judgment is that this man was very suspicious and could have been the kidnapper’”
EXCLUSIVE – Picture of man who gave woman the CREEPS!
“262 DAYS MISSING AND.. MADDY’S BLUNDER COP BACK ON CASE – “Lazy Goncalo Amaral - fired from the investigation after the Sunday Mirror exposed his long, boozy lunches - has held a string of meetings with new chief detective Paulo Rebelo”
The Mirror is on the case. It got Amaral. It got “creepy” Robert Murat. But now Amaral is back. Says the paper: “The move will be a massive blow to parents Kate and Gerry.” It will be “heartbreaking for 39-year-old doctors Kate and Gerry”. Why? Was Amaral the casue of their problem?
DAILY STAR: “SPANISH COPS SHOW UP MADDIE FLAWS”
The Spanish police are looking for Mari Luis Cortes. Says the Star: “Friends of Kate and Gerry McCann say missing Madeleine might have been found by now – if Spanish police had been involved”
Maris Luis Cortes has yet to be found
Says a friend of McCanns of the Portuguese police: “They acted like real amateurs, so it’s no wonder they don’t seem to be getting anywhere finding Madeleine”
The Portuguese police also named the McCanns as suspects
SUNDAY EXPRESS front page: “McCANNS SPLIT BY AGONY OF MADDY”
“The lives of Kate and Gerry McCann are moving in “opposite directions” because they have developed strikingly different ways of coping with the disappearance of their daughter Madeleine”
We are watching the parents
“Kate is living the life of a semi-recluse as she focuses on being a stay-at-home mother, virtually shutting herself off from the supportive community around her. Gerry, meanwhile, has thrown himself into working full time as a heart specialist during the week, while running the campaign to find four-year-old Madeleine in the evenings and at weekends”
And Kate McCann: “Kate has abandoned the village routine she once shared with Madeleine. She no longer has her hair styled at Dawn Newcombe’s salon, which she regularly visited with Madeleine. Her mother normally takes the twins for haircuts when she is staying”
One of the stylists says: “She was almost in tears as she watched them and my heart went out to her.”
Such is the news in the search for Madeleine McCann
SUNDAY INDEPENDENT: “Maddy’s off the front page”
“Followers of the Madeleine McCann story have been able to depend on the ‘Evening Standard’ to clear the front page for any development. So how come a potential breakthrough, with police looking into the disappearance of another little girl near Praia da Luz, was buried on page 17? The answer is: sales fell by 10,000 the last two times Maddy made the cover, so the news desk have been told to curb their Maddy enthusiasm. If only they’d tell the ‘Express’ to do likewise”

And Clarrie has been promoted to acting detective:
‘Within minutes of the close of the press conference, Mr Mitchell had taken a call from a British man who believes he saw the man in the sketches in the Portuguese resort of Faro several years ago.’
Sadly, Clarrie apparently didn’t enquire whether George Harrison had been doing a Portuguese gig at the time…

Yesterday,
All my troubles seemed so far away,
Now my Madeleine has gone away,
Oh how I long for yesterday.
Suddenly…
She’s no longer where she ought to be,
And the world is getting mad at me,
Oh how I long for sanity.

I watched David Milliband this morning on the Politics Show……..what an arrogant b……!!!
Although the Government promised us a referendum on the new Treaty, he is adamant
that it wont” happen.
If he and GB took up the McCanns cause and approached the Portugese Government early on,
they might try to influence JM.

Early on in the thread, a poster or two were mentioning that there was a family connection between ‘new’ witness Gail Cooper and old ‘witness’ Jane Tanner. The BBC article doesn’t make a mention of this connection. Is this a printed report in an article somewhere or just supposition?
I don’t blame Gail Cooper for reporting this person to the police back in May (if the evidence she is presenting is the truth and if she did really report it to the police in May), even though the events she reported took place 10 days prior to Madeleine’s disappearance because it would be natural to wonder if there was a connection. However, I do blame the media for writing up the story as if this suspicious fellow were seen with Madeleine or seen lurking around Ocean Club immediately preceding the event. They have most definitely exaggerated the significance of the woman’s report to mislead the public.
I agree that Jane Tanner’s credibility is certainly nil at this point.
I loved the Bad Day for the McCann Team video and also hope that someone will take the time to subtitle it in Portuguese and send it on to the PJ. They really will p*ss themselves laughing over it.
I think we should declare a McCann holiday for Anorakers some time during each week. Let’s take one set day off where we do not come onto the forum to discuss the case. We can look at it as a way of ‘turning our backs’ on the McCanns and their farce. What do you think?

Good afternoon Tony.
Talking of George Harrison, the McCann case is becoming a bit like Sergeant Pepper’s album by the Beatles. Didn’t that record have reversed speech at the end of it and all those incredible conspiracy theories?

From the BBC report on ‘George Harrison man’:
“One picture shows a man with long hair, bushy eyebrows and a moustache. Another image shows him walking in a light jacket and blue trousers”.
REPLY: Surely some mistake?
Wasn’t it a *dark* jacket and *beige* trousers before?
Has someone forgotten or mixed up their lines?
OR - hey! Maybe ‘Abductor 1′ (dark jacket and beige trousers) passed Madeleine to ‘Abductor 2′ (light jacket and blue trousers).
We are already aware of the high degree of skills of ‘Abductor 1′, including leaping through an open window carrying Madeleine without touching the lichen-ingrained window sill - not forgetting calmly holding his swarthy breath whilst Gerry McCann gazed lovingly down at his beautiful child and thought how he was the luckiest father alive…
Also, I wonder how many abductors wear sports jackets?
