Madeleine McCann: Kate McCann’s Hairdresser, A Suspect Look And Amaral
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
NEWS OF THE WORLD front page: “MADDY’S KIDNAPPER – Beast who took McCann’s little girl”
A “WORLD EXCLUSIVE”
The paper says the witness, Gail Cooper, was staying with her family 600 yards from the McCann’s apartment in Praia da Luz.
She told the police of a “creepy man” in the area. A picture of the man has been produced
Gary Thompson, an associate editor at the News of the World, tells the BBC the picture was being taken seriously. Well, it on the front page. “The picture has been passed to Interpol, police in Portugal and also in Leicestershire, so the important thing is - who is he? Where is he now?” he asks.
“We’ll be urging all our readers in the morning to get in touch with the authorities if they’ve got any information at all about this man”
Is he the man who abducted Madeleine McCann? Or was Mrs Cooper listening to The Beatles at the time?
SUNDAY MIRROR: “THE MAN WHO RAN OFF WITH MADDY?
EXCLUSIVE Hunt for Madeleine: Day 262 First image of suspect”
Or the second image…
“This is the face of a stalker now believed to have snatched Madeleine McCann. The image is a former FBI artist’s impression based on a detailed description given by a key British witness. It clearly reveals the features of a moustachioed man - who was carrying a little girl in pink pyjamas, believed to be four-year-old Maddie”
It’s a photofit, an artist’s impression. Like this FBI picture of Madeleine
The original photofit issued by Portuguese police showed only a round egg-shaped head and blank face and was widely criticised as being useless. The Sun had an eFit. Jane Tanner’s efit had hair and a jacket
The man is “thought to be aged between 38 and 45. He has sallow skin, lank dark hair, large teeth and a distinctive droopy moustache. The suspect, who is said to have spoken in broken English, knocked on the door of Mrs [Sarah] Cooper’s apartment claiming to be collecting for charity. Mrs Cooper says: ‘He made my blood run cold - he gave me the creeps. My judgment is that this man was very suspicious and could have been the kidnapper’”
EXCLUSIVE – Picture of man who gave woman the CREEPS!
“262 DAYS MISSING AND.. MADDY’S BLUNDER COP BACK ON CASE – “Lazy Goncalo Amaral - fired from the investigation after the Sunday Mirror exposed his long, boozy lunches - has held a string of meetings with new chief detective Paulo Rebelo”
The Mirror is on the case. It got Amaral. It got “creepy” Robert Murat. But now Amaral is back. Says the paper: “The move will be a massive blow to parents Kate and Gerry.” It will be “heartbreaking for 39-year-old doctors Kate and Gerry”. Why? Was Amaral the casue of their problem?
DAILY STAR: “SPANISH COPS SHOW UP MADDIE FLAWS”
The Spanish police are looking for Mari Luis Cortes. Says the Star: “Friends of Kate and Gerry McCann say missing Madeleine might have been found by now – if Spanish police had been involved”
Maris Luis Cortes has yet to be found
Says a friend of McCanns of the Portuguese police: “They acted like real amateurs, so it’s no wonder they don’t seem to be getting anywhere finding Madeleine”
The Portuguese police also named the McCanns as suspects
SUNDAY EXPRESS front page: “McCANNS SPLIT BY AGONY OF MADDY”
“The lives of Kate and Gerry McCann are moving in “opposite directions” because they have developed strikingly different ways of coping with the disappearance of their daughter Madeleine”
We are watching the parents
“Kate is living the life of a semi-recluse as she focuses on being a stay-at-home mother, virtually shutting herself off from the supportive community around her. Gerry, meanwhile, has thrown himself into working full time as a heart specialist during the week, while running the campaign to find four-year-old Madeleine in the evenings and at weekends”
And Kate McCann: “Kate has abandoned the village routine she once shared with Madeleine. She no longer has her hair styled at Dawn Newcombe’s salon, which she regularly visited with Madeleine. Her mother normally takes the twins for haircuts when she is staying”
One of the stylists says: “She was almost in tears as she watched them and my heart went out to her.”
Such is the news in the search for Madeleine McCann
SUNDAY INDEPENDENT: “Maddy’s off the front page”
“Followers of the Madeleine McCann story have been able to depend on the ‘Evening Standard’ to clear the front page for any development. So how come a potential breakthrough, with police looking into the disappearance of another little girl near Praia da Luz, was buried on page 17? The answer is: sales fell by 10,000 the last two times Maddy made the cover, so the news desk have been told to curb their Maddy enthusiasm. If only they’d tell the ‘Express’ to do likewise”

Yeah.
Liked Thijs van Leer also very much on the flute. And he did some amazing stuff on Bach.
Earlier in the 60’s Thijs worked with Ramses Shaffy on Chaffy Chantate. Electrifying. Oh — nostalgia sets in

Why do people keep talking about the McCanns as if their guilt is in doubt? At the very least they failed in their parental care and Maddie has paid the price.
I hope there is a god, I hope he is a just god and they recieve the punishment appropriate to their crime - maybe not from mankinds flawed ‘justice’ - but from their gods terrible wrath!

BBC News 24 have ran this rubbish all day long. I find it incredible. Just seen Clarrie holding up the two George Harrison drawings (sorry Ade - just for clarrrrification) - while talking about the similarities between the two. Well of course they are similar, they,re supposed to be the same bloke drawn by the expert as accounted for by the Nottingham woman. I’ve said this before, lying is such a difficult thing to pull off - but does he pull it off? Of course not.
Oh yeah, then News 24, follows with Gordon Brown and Richard Branson.

Call up Callum who does the official Madeleine site. He’ll help you with wristbands and posters to raise funds. We can hold “Julie Balloon Events” and I can go visit the Pope to let him know. I’ll go to Morocco (same continent) and tell everyone of your intended presence at the Anorak Event.

It is difficult to see how comical Clarrie could sink any lower, though I’m sure that he’ll give it his best shot.
It has perhaps not occurred to him that someone with genuine religious views would be deeply offended by his ‘with the grace of god of course ‘ comment in the Standard. People who believe in the existence of God tend not only to remember the capital letter but also refrain from suggesting that God might have a bad hair day and decide not to bother with finding a missing small child…
And then there’s his ‘”Kate and Gerry are quite buoyant at the moment - every time we do something like this and move things forward it gives them strength.”
One would have to be terminally naive not to realise that it appears to be the publicity stunts which cheer the McCanns up…

I/we gave cash to the Find Madeleine fund, with the emphasis on finding Madeleine.
I am now of the opinion that the McCann’s, and or their friends, know rather more about the events leading up to and following Madeleine’s disappearance than has currently come to light.

I’ve proposed a social meet of fellow Anorakians when there’s some kind of resolution to this case. I’ll have a beer with anyone - even Sledgehammer. I’ve met plenty of dopes in bars over the years so one more won’t make a difference.
We could all have a sweepstake to try and identify each other. The reality is that most pro-McCann will crawl back under their stones so wouldn’t attend such an event.
….. Anyone donating? I’ll need a couple of bob to get there …. PLEASE …. I’ll be nice to everyone …. Garthie and Flat Head included

I agree with you. What works for one parent might not for another. Even within a family, one technique will not succeed with every child and an assortment of methods should be available to choose from.
I’ve never understood why Ian is so vehemently opposed to the star chart the McCanns used to try to encourage Madeleine to stay in her own bed and not theirs at night time. Most parents will readily admit they do not want a family bed with parents and children sleeping together, but many children would probably prefer it. A star chart seems a peaceful option to employ.

Yes, it would be a laugh. How many times do we talk to someone on the phone and then after meeting them think they look nothing like we imagined? It would be quite an interesting event if we staged one.

Thanks for your response on yesterday’s thread. I am in general agreement with your observations, though my gut feeling is that the PJ are working on a different theory to the one they were pursuing in Sept 07.
The leaks at that time were all about the cadaver dogs and the “scent of death” on KM’s clothes etc - either those reports were untrue or the Portuguese prosecutor has reservations for some other reason, otherwise I would have expected arrests or charges by now.
++++++++++++++++
As I said yesterday, I haven’t a clue what real lines of enquiry the PJ are pursuing. Mr Rebello himself I think said something like all avenues remain open.
The leaks you refer to may be untrue, they might not be, again it’s perfectly possible to speculate either way.
We could also speculate about why arrests/charges haven’t yet been brought, if indeed they ever will be brought.
I maintain that the PJ are conducting their criminal investigation at a pace and manner that suits them and no one else, least of all Team McCann. I believe the Portuguese criminal justice system has sufficient checks and controls in place to decide on the appropriateness or not of an investigation continuing. On the basis that the investigation is ongoing I’m happy to assume that it has open lines of enquiry worth pursuing.

You MUST remember the context.
Think about this…they were rewarding her for not bothering them in their bedroom, it wasnt in her control to stop herself waking frightened and disorientated in the night.
I think it was inappropriate - and remember, parents who had a child who was known to awaken in the night apparently left her with two little ones in an unsecured room in a foreign country. They left the door unlocked why? So she could escape if there were a fire? Escape carrying the twins only to fall down concrete steps?
Give me a break, their methods were not appropriately used and their behaviour negligent.
Why we even have to debate the guilt of the McCanns is illustrative of the world we live in.
January 20th, 2008 at 5:50 pm
The disgraced cop who was sacked from the Madeleine McCann inquiry is to RETURN to work on the case.
Lazy Goncalo Amaral - fired from the investigation after the Sunday Mirror exposed his long, boozy lunches - has held a string of meetings with new chief detective Paulo Rebelo.
And in a secret summit the pair have agreed he would be welcomed back on to the team responsible for finding out what happened to four-year-old Madeleine, who vanished 262 days ago.
They are doing a good job calling Lazy Amaral

Mr Mitchell said Mrs Cooper’s information had been with the police for some time, but they had not produced an artist’s impression.
“We’re not going to criticise the police in any form - they have got a difficult enough job,” he said.
“It seems drawings of this sort are not done as a matter of course in Portugal.”

“Poor Little Girl”
