Madeleine McCann: Kate McCann’s Hairdresser, A Suspect Look And Amaral
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
NEWS OF THE WORLD front page: “MADDY’S KIDNAPPER – Beast who took McCann’s little girl”
A “WORLD EXCLUSIVE”
The paper says the witness, Gail Cooper, was staying with her family 600 yards from the McCann’s apartment in Praia da Luz.
She told the police of a “creepy man” in the area. A picture of the man has been produced
Gary Thompson, an associate editor at the News of the World, tells the BBC the picture was being taken seriously. Well, it on the front page. “The picture has been passed to Interpol, police in Portugal and also in Leicestershire, so the important thing is - who is he? Where is he now?” he asks.
“We’ll be urging all our readers in the morning to get in touch with the authorities if they’ve got any information at all about this man”
Is he the man who abducted Madeleine McCann? Or was Mrs Cooper listening to The Beatles at the time?
SUNDAY MIRROR: “THE MAN WHO RAN OFF WITH MADDY?
EXCLUSIVE Hunt for Madeleine: Day 262 First image of suspect”
Or the second image…
“This is the face of a stalker now believed to have snatched Madeleine McCann. The image is a former FBI artist’s impression based on a detailed description given by a key British witness. It clearly reveals the features of a moustachioed man - who was carrying a little girl in pink pyjamas, believed to be four-year-old Maddie”
It’s a photofit, an artist’s impression. Like this FBI picture of Madeleine
The original photofit issued by Portuguese police showed only a round egg-shaped head and blank face and was widely criticised as being useless. The Sun had an eFit. Jane Tanner’s efit had hair and a jacket
The man is “thought to be aged between 38 and 45. He has sallow skin, lank dark hair, large teeth and a distinctive droopy moustache. The suspect, who is said to have spoken in broken English, knocked on the door of Mrs [Sarah] Cooper’s apartment claiming to be collecting for charity. Mrs Cooper says: ‘He made my blood run cold - he gave me the creeps. My judgment is that this man was very suspicious and could have been the kidnapper’”
EXCLUSIVE – Picture of man who gave woman the CREEPS!
“262 DAYS MISSING AND.. MADDY’S BLUNDER COP BACK ON CASE – “Lazy Goncalo Amaral - fired from the investigation after the Sunday Mirror exposed his long, boozy lunches - has held a string of meetings with new chief detective Paulo Rebelo”
The Mirror is on the case. It got Amaral. It got “creepy” Robert Murat. But now Amaral is back. Says the paper: “The move will be a massive blow to parents Kate and Gerry.” It will be “heartbreaking for 39-year-old doctors Kate and Gerry”. Why? Was Amaral the casue of their problem?
DAILY STAR: “SPANISH COPS SHOW UP MADDIE FLAWS”
The Spanish police are looking for Mari Luis Cortes. Says the Star: “Friends of Kate and Gerry McCann say missing Madeleine might have been found by now – if Spanish police had been involved”
Maris Luis Cortes has yet to be found
Says a friend of McCanns of the Portuguese police: “They acted like real amateurs, so it’s no wonder they don’t seem to be getting anywhere finding Madeleine”
The Portuguese police also named the McCanns as suspects
SUNDAY EXPRESS front page: “McCANNS SPLIT BY AGONY OF MADDY”
“The lives of Kate and Gerry McCann are moving in “opposite directions” because they have developed strikingly different ways of coping with the disappearance of their daughter Madeleine”
We are watching the parents
“Kate is living the life of a semi-recluse as she focuses on being a stay-at-home mother, virtually shutting herself off from the supportive community around her. Gerry, meanwhile, has thrown himself into working full time as a heart specialist during the week, while running the campaign to find four-year-old Madeleine in the evenings and at weekends”
And Kate McCann: “Kate has abandoned the village routine she once shared with Madeleine. She no longer has her hair styled at Dawn Newcombe’s salon, which she regularly visited with Madeleine. Her mother normally takes the twins for haircuts when she is staying”
One of the stylists says: “She was almost in tears as she watched them and my heart went out to her.”
Such is the news in the search for Madeleine McCann
SUNDAY INDEPENDENT: “Maddy’s off the front page”
“Followers of the Madeleine McCann story have been able to depend on the ‘Evening Standard’ to clear the front page for any development. So how come a potential breakthrough, with police looking into the disappearance of another little girl near Praia da Luz, was buried on page 17? The answer is: sales fell by 10,000 the last two times Maddy made the cover, so the news desk have been told to curb their Maddy enthusiasm. If only they’d tell the ‘Express’ to do likewise”

Could somebody explain to me, very slowly, in words of one or two syllables, how Mrs Cooper’s description of a man knocking on her door - allegedly collecting money for charity, a week before Maddie arrived in PDL, becomes an e-fit of the man ’seen carrying pyjama clad Maddie’…….
I’m missing a link in the story here, and I’d really appreciate your help on this.

This was the campaign - ‘Code Madeleine’ - that the News of the World promoted so vigorously in the summer:
QUOTE
THE News of the World THE News of the World has teamed up with the Association of British Travel Agents and the Federation of Tour Operators to lanch a major initiative to keep our children safe on holiday—Code Madeleine.
Our worldwide alert system— named after missing Madeleine McCann, snatched from her family’s Portuguese holiday apartment three months ago—will ensure rapid, effective action in the vital first few hours of a suspected abduction.
[RECORD £1.5M REWARD]
The landmark project, which will automatically trigger a security clampdown and searches, has the full backing of the four-year-old’s parents, Kate and Gerry, and the biggest names in travel.
Last night Gerry McCann said: “Kate and I fully endorse Code Madeleine.
“We’d like to thank everyone in the British travel industry and the News of the World for taking the initiative in setting up this scheme to help protect families away from home.”
Code Madeleine—based on the hugely successful Code Adam that operates in shopping malls and public buildings across America—embraces a simple six-point plan of measures.
As soon as the alarm is raised it will kick-start an immediate co-ordinated hunt by all the parties concerned—holiday companies, hoteliers, police and the child’s family.
Had our new code been in place when little Maddie was abducted from the Praia da Luz apartment, while her parents were dining just yards away, the procedures could have foiled the snatch.
The scheme is backed by the Federation of Tour Operators (FTO), whose members take 18 MILLION Brits abroad each year, AND the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA). Among the big names who have thrown full support behind us are Teletext, First Choice, BA Holidays, Thomas Cook, My Travel, Thomson Holidays, Virgin Holidays and Cosmos.
Action
Their employees will be trained in a set procedure covering the six-point SOS plan. Look for the Code Madeleine symbol when booking holidays to be sure staff are ready for action.
Andy Cooper, Director General of the FTO, said: “We’re pleased to have helped develop Code Madeleine and hope it will bring added reassurance to millions. All of our major members have agreed to support and adopt it.”
Child protection charity Child Safe’s spokesman said: “We wholeheartedly applaud and support you.”
Independent hoteliers and operators who want to sign up to Code Madeleine should email newsdesk@notw.co.uk for details.

I completely agree.
If I was going to kidnap a little child successfully, I wouldn’t pay a bizarre-looking man to do it. And if I did it myself, I’d do my hair in a way that doesn’t make me stand out from the normal population immediately. Unless I was completely nuts.
The man on the picture is a fairly good representation of how a storyteller would describe a modern oger : hairy, thick eyebrows close to the eyes, long big teeth, determined look from intent relentless eyes, sallow complexion, big moustache, broken English, but funnily (?) enough with a sort of Christ look too (the Redeemer, he is going to save us all by bringing an end to that horrible tale). That’s probably why the story comes out on a Sunday.

NEWS OF THE WORLD REWARD PLEDGERS
A report from the early days…
QUOTE
After we kicked off the fund with £250,000, Harry Potter author JK ROWLING put up a staggering amount — the largest single donation. But she asked us not to reveal the exact figure.
Kind-hearted JK married a Portuguese TV journalist and her first child Jessica was born in Portugal, a few hours’ drive from Praia da Luz where Maddie was snatched.
Her dad Gerry said: “We are very happy and pleased with what you are doing. Anything that can be done to publicise that Madeleine is missing and help with the search is very welcome.”
Topshop tycoon SIR PHILIP GREEN matched our £250,000 and said: “I hope this makes a difference.”
Virgin’s SIR RICHARD BRANSON put up £100,000, saying: “I’d like to appeal as a father to whoever is holding her to please bring her home safe.”
Everton football club chairman and theatre boss BILL KENWRIGHT was one of the first people to see pictures of Maddie wearing his club’s shirt before they were released this week.
Mr Kenwright, who has pledged a huge personal sum, said: “If it helps towards the reunion it will be the best cheque I’ve ever written.”
Footie chairmen EGGERT MAGNUSSON of West Ham and Reading’s JOHN MADEJSKI both gave £10,000.
Ann Summers boss JACQUELINE GOLD donated £100,000, explaining she wanted to get involved after meeting Sara Payne.
She said: “I pray that this nightmare comes to an end soon with the safe return of their beautiful little girl.”
Telly star SIMON COWELL promised £50,000, saying: “I heard about the terrible situation here in LA and I hope she is found safe and sound.”
Manchester United star WAYNE ROONEY and fiancée Coleen McLoughlin pledged £25,000, telling us: “We are praying for Maddie’s safe return and for an end to what must be a nightmare for all her family.”
The England cricket team joined in with £20,000. Captain MICHAEL VAUGHAN said: “Our thoughts and prayers are for Maddie’s safe return.”
Entrepreneur SIR TOM HUNTER pledged £100,000 with EasyJet boss SIR STELIOS Haji-Ioannou and Matalan chief JOHN HARGREAVESchipping in with large sums too.
The Mark Warner company, which runs the Ocean Village resort where Maddie was snatched, said: “We wholeheartedly support the News of the World initiative and anything that helps get Madeleine back.”
Our reward offer, which appears in several major European languages on the right, is subject to standard News of the World reward offer conditions.

surely by repeatedly bringing up new “sightings”, appearing on video with whiney voices and drawing ever more ludicrous “photofits” even the great thick uk public must be getting turned away from the mcconn junta’s cause.
so what does it all mean?

This is not the first mention of someone at the door wanting money for an orphanage. Maybe someone has the link of the previous version O’Donnel/Wilkins?) in which someone wanted money for “an orphanage in the mountains”. And there was also a pair of Jehovah’s Witnesses coming to someone’s door — but this may have been the same incident, collecting money for an orphanage, or just passing out material, I forget.
I wish we could get a confirmation that this Cooper family is a relation of Jane Tanner. Or a retraction of the BBC report that said so.

REPLY: We have been told.
There was a full moon on 2nd May, its maximum extent was around 11am GMT. It was also a ‘blue moon’ (one of two in the same momth - 30 May was the other). May 1 is the old pagan/Celtic festival of Beltane, still very much celebrated by many witches, Druids and paganists of today, and which in some of the more sinister occultic societies involves a sacrifice ritual.
The above is an assemblage of facts not related to Madeleine’s ‘disappearance’
———————————————————————
May 1st has been celebrated in England for many centuries, apart from when the less than fun-loving Oliver Cromwell banned it, and whilst many pagans do also celebrate Mayday it certainly isn’t confined to them…
‘The Rise and Fall of Merry England: The Ritual Year 1400-1700′ by Ronald Hutton is a very good place to start if anyone wishes to learn more…

Good morning, Sir,
I love the “FBI Forensic artist” tag.
Why can Team McCann, with all that money still not find an artist who can do arms or faces ?
The caption under the picture “CREEPY: Gail saw weirdo 3 times” is not specific as to whether the picture is of the wierdo, or of Gail
And the Tanner picture “TIE-IN: Jane saw man with child”, looks surprisingly like one of the several descriptions she is alleged to have given, man’s face, sallow complexion, rounded shoulders, long lank hair. We psychologists call it “projection”.
But the most obvious thing to me is that the NOTW, in common with many other people who do not understand the real world, make the assumption that any criminal, kidnapper, pederast, will necessarily be “creepy” or “odd looking” or “strange”, and very probably physically deformed, with a speech defect.
Have they and the general public still not grown up enough to realise that the contrary is the case. Pederasts are successful because they look ‘normal’, They look like a favourite uncle, or the local priest or choirmaster. That is why they are not noticed. Spies do not hang about in dark raincoats on corners under streetlamps, they work for HM the Queen organising the Royal picture collection.
Good NOTW stuff, which we can cheerfully ignore so fas as it relates to the search for MM. What we can’t ignore is the way in which Team McC and Clarrie will milk it and twist it to their own ends.
