The paper says the witness, Gail Cooper, was staying with her family 600 yards from the McCann’s apartment in Praia da Luz.
She told the police of a “creepy man” in the area. A picture of the man has been produced
Gary Thompson, an associate editor at the News of the World, tells the BBC the picture was being taken seriously. Well, it on the front page. “The picture has been passed to Interpol, police in Portugal and also in Leicestershire, so the important thing is - who is he? Where is he now?” he asks.
“We’ll be urging all our readers in the morning to get in touch with the authorities if they’ve got any information at all about this man”
Is he the man who abducted Madeleine McCann? Or was Mrs Cooper listening to The Beatles at the time?

The man is “thought to be aged between 38 and 45. He has sallow skin, lank dark hair, large teeth and a distinctive droopy moustache. The suspect, who is said to have spoken in broken English, knocked on the door of Mrs [Sarah] Cooper’s apartment claiming to be collecting for charity. Mrs Cooper says: ‘He made my blood run cold - he gave me the creeps. My judgment is that this man was very suspicious and could have been the kidnapper’”

The Spanish police are looking for Mari Luis Cortes. Says the Star: “Friends of Kate and Gerry McCann say missing Madeleine might have been found by now – if Spanish police had been involved”
Maris Luis Cortes has yet to be found
Says a friend of McCanns of the Portuguese police: “They acted like real amateurs, so it’s no wonder they don’t seem to be getting anywhere finding Madeleine”
The Portuguese police also named the McCanns as suspects

Possibly.. However Ian, either this lady did or didn’t report this sighting back in May? That surely is a verifiable fact? i.e. She must surely have reported something otherwise it’s just a blatant lie to say her suspicions have been reported earlier, as in May?
So, let’s give her the benefit of the doubt and say she did report it when she says she reported it. That then means the police must have eliminated him from their lines of enquiry? So, why are Team McCann raising it now?
Is this part of the confusion that is being caused to Team McCann by not being allowed access to the PJ’s files they are having to try and guess which bit of evidence to attempt to rubbish next?

Ms Cooper apparently reported her suspicions on May 7, having returned from PDL on 25th April.
I assume therefore that it was the Nottinghamshire police involved.
The ‘This is London’ article makes it clear that :
‘Now the McCanns want a review of all the witness statements’.
Not a huge surprise, is it?
I doubt that there is any other reason than that they are desparate to know what is in the police files…

Yes, of course, I freely admit (cough) that the McCanns were entirely free to refuse to take part in their wholly voluntary chat with the PJ, which they had absolutely no duty to attend - and that they only popped down there out of the goodness of their sweet hearts. Surprising really, then, that sweet Kate was reportedly screaming the place down hysterically a few hours later and had totally ‘lost’ it. Just as she reportedly did when the PJ came to have a look round their apartment and ask a few questions

As I understand it this gentleman produced the picture as Madeleine would look today 8/9 months on.

The McCann, according to a friend quoted by ThiIsLondon, believe that “a group of two or three paedophiles may have fishing around the apartments, casing it with a view to taking children.” This belief is based in another witness, Paul Gordon, who also contacted Metodo 3, but gave a description of a different man hanging round the McCann’s apartment.

It appears there has been an unusual leak, or series of leaks, from inside ‘Team McCann’.
Over on the Mirror Forums, one poster has today revealed details of a new publicity campaign by HTFM (’Helping to Find Madeleine’).
This has drawn an apparent on-the-reocrd response from someone signing him/herself as ‘HTFM Admin’ - and it looks like a genuine posting from them. They appear to have been greatly rattled by the leaks.
Amongst the leaks that has been posted is this charming e-mail apparently sent to HTFM by one Robert Argiz, apparently based int he U.S. He wrote:

3) Create an aggressive Internet campaign aimed at compelling the British government to make available their M-16 intelligence service agency, to help find Madeleine Mc Cann or determine whether or not she is still alive or dead.

There are an awful lot of things which we are not seeing/understanding; the quickness of the hand deceives the eye.
It is, however, very easy for people to delude themselves that they have information of value when a very large reward has been offered; the slightly odd character bumped into at the supermarket is transmuted into a raving psychotic and someone walking in the rain is obviously a fiendish abductor.
A more relevant question might be the source of funding for a ‘million posters appealing for information in English, Arabic and French about the suspicious character [which] are now being distributed throughout Morocco and the Iberian Peninsula’.
Another relevant question might be why distribute posters not in Spanish or Portuguese to Spain and Portugal; it seems a distinctly eccentric thing to do….
