“Last night she said there are “strong similarities” between the man she saw and the new sketch.
“Nanny Charlotte Pennington’s description of a person she saw with Mr Murat also matches the man shown in the artist’s impression”

, anyway we know that gail cooper (note to self - must start a gail cooper fanclub) had just come out of rothley manor when she was interviewed by the press. She had just been briefed by team mcc IMO allegedley etc etc 
think i’ll go investigate the ironing pile, or take a book and cuppa and lounge in the bath for a while, though i really should clean the house and prepare tea…

Can someone with a legal understanding help me please?
What would happen if a spokesperson for two suspects in a UK missing persons case stood up on national television without the say so of the investigating officers and bandied about a sketch of someone they say may have been complicit in the case?

I doubt that a legal understanding is of much relevance here.
The reality is that the police here have very effective sanctions against journos who don’t toe the line.
So, ask yourself whether journos would risk being cut off from the fount of all wisdom because they had stepped on the toes of almighty plod…

You talking about the people who are coming forward saying they saw a stranger around the resort? If so, probably just well meaning people who did see someone ’strange’ around and trying to be helpful in this very tragic case of a missing child.

Well, in Ms Cooper’s case she came forward to her local constabulary back in May last year. They interviewed her at her home, and clearly decided that it wasn’t worth doing an e-fit, photofit or sketch.
Ms Cooper apparently then did nothing until January when she contacted the Daily Mirror, as reported here on Anorak on 8th January; distinctly odd behaviour since all she had to do was to speak to the police who had interviewed her many months earlier.
The much vaunted ‘investigation’ was in fact Comical Clarrie reading Anorak and dispatching M3 to interview her.
