Amanda Mills, 34, from Basildon, Essex, claimed to have spotted a man trying to break into a bedroom window at the Ocean Club in Praia da Luz a week before Madeleine disappeared from the complex.
“Last night she said there are “strong similarities” between the man she saw and the new sketch.
“Nanny Charlotte Pennington’s description of a person she saw with Mr Murat also matches the man shown in the artist’s impression”

I have been reading some articles around 07/09/08 and this exactely why they decided to question the Mccanns,Kate first during 11h after they received the results from the ever dna test they evr made with which they were very satisfied,discarding then all links with a kidnap.

Can someone with a legal understanding help me please?
What would happen if a spokesperson for two suspects in a UK missing persons case stood up on national television without the say so of the investigating officers and bandied about a sketch of someone they say may have been complicit in the case?

I doubt that a legal understanding is of much relevance here.
The reality is that the police here have very effective sanctions against journos who don’t toe the line.
So, ask yourself whether journos would risk being cut off from the fount of all wisdom because they had stepped on the toes of almighty plod…

If that is what their “Briefing” resulted in…ie..Yorks TV interview…they
should give it up. Was a PR disaster for them.
But…From the TV clip….she was at the War Memorial…and did not seem to
have been at the House earlier….standing in the rain…looking bemused..in
the glare of the TV lights….and then giving a very dubious account of her
claims.
Even the Presenter looked unbelieving.
She didn’t even wear the Pink Uniform.
