They need an emergency meeting at Masonic Headquarters to get their stories straight again.
The man Jane saw walking away from the apartments where we were staying was carrying a child, around 9.10pm on the night Madeleine was abducted. Jane described pyjamas matching those Madeleine was wearing without knowing what she had on that fateful night. We are convinced that this was when Madeleine was taken. Jane has been shown these sketches of the man. She feels he has a strong resemblance to the man she saw on May 3rd.carrying the child away.

Its highly dangerous to treat such power without careful respect. I’m waiting for them to make that fatal error that is bound to come and turn the public (even the stupid masses!) against them.
The movie idea nearly did it, I was suprised Clarence survived that one (of course, his paymaster might let him go once the McCann case is over).

Sounds as if she is revelling in the attention and is a bit of an egomaniac — making a trip and posing by a war memorial in Rothley so she could “get the feel of the place, now that she is part of the case” and now jetting to Portugal to help the PJ catch the Beatlemen. What a character!

Obviously she said that so she couldnt be held to account (must have been advised exactly what to say).
This means in close touch with McCann PR and lawyers. I suspect that the answer to your question is that she is conscious that the truth and her statement are not in close proximity from the truth.
