“Mari Luz Cortes vanished on January 13, as she went to buy sweets from a local kiosk in the Spanish town of Huelva, near the border with Portugal. A massive search for the five-year-old is ongoing.
“The disappearance has been linked to that of Madeleine McCann from the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz, although police said they did not think the two cases were connected.
Ms Fitzpatrick yesterday said that her only daughter is “still just a kid”.
“She is only 15 and she has disappeared without trace.”
Amy Fitpatrick was 15 when she vanished after leaving her friend’s house near Feungirola, in Spain, at 10pm on New Year’s Day. She set out on the 20-minute walk to her own house, but has not been seen since.

Im suprised it lasted so long! The mirror is a newspaper that seems to always have opinions with which I disagree!
To allow free discussion of the McCann case, when clearly it is pro-McCann as a ‘news’ paper, seemed odd to me.
I dont think it was anything other than lack of control (weal moderation) and fear of the McCann machine. Whats your view?

Its my belief that Tanner was out of step with the ‘one truth’ message of the McCanns. Her appearance on Panorama was, in my view, against the advice and without the permission of the McCanns.
I believe they are now implementing tactics to recover from the damage which the 9:15 nailing of the ‘window of opportunity’ had done. Gerry has revealed that Tanners sighting was, in fact, 9:10 and not 9:15. This kills it, as the 5 minute window of opportunity becomes a ‘no minute’ window!
Why kill it? Well, its job had been done. The impression that an abductor existed no longer requires testimony from Jane Tanner, whose testimony had already been discredited as viable for a court case by the previous changes in height and direction travelled. The focus moves to the new and more complete (and devlish!) image of an abductor as identified by more independant witness. Tanner off the hook, abductor image retained.

garth - how many local police and pj do you think were involved in this case in the early days? do you think they had a meeting and collectively decided that they should not follow up any leads re: abductor - or do you think that they all simulatneousley decided for themselves that the abduction story was rubbish and therfore never bothered with it?
i would suggest that while some may have been suspiscious of the mcc’s initially, every possible scenario was (and still is) investigated - including egg man, and various worldwide sightings, though i also believe that they have enough evidence to be able to focus the investigation on the parents / tapas 9/10. IMO allegedley etc etc

Do you actually know anything about how/what the UK local police and the PJ did in respect of Gail Cooper’s alleged sighting? In the unlikely event that you do, perhaps you would be so good as to share your insights rather than making unsubstantiated claims.

One thing we definately know is that the PJ did NOT put an artists impression of the person sighted by Gail Cooper. Now logic tells me that unless this person is identified then how on earth can this person be traced? And until this person is traced and allowed to give a full statement of his movements then how can this person be negated? And if you believe that the PJ knew exactly who this person was based on a description by GC then you are as daft as them imo.

You’re as entitled to your opinion as anyone else in here, but that’s all it is, your opinion. Neither you nor I know what actual steps the PJ may or may not have taken in respect of Gail Cooper’s information. I don’t think the PJ are a bunch of incompetent case fixing buffoons and so I believe that if Gail Cooper’s information reached them that they handled it in an appropriate manner. Your opinion may differ.
We do not know whether the PJ have/had already identified and eliminated this person from their enquiries. Given the nature of the investigation secrecy laws in Portugal the PJ don’t have to tell anyone about this. It is therefore just supposition for you to suggest that this person hasn’t already been traced and allowed to give a full statement of his movements.
Additionally, and it has been discussed on numerous occasions here and elsewhere, no investigation team follows all leads because it would be simply impractical. Ergo, it’s perfectly possible that the PJ may have decided not to further pursue Gail Cooper’s information because other factors in their investigation clearly indicated that her information led in a direction that had already been properly dismissed as a duff line of enquiry. Here again I have no evidence to suggest this is what happened, just pointing out that there are reasonable explanations

1053 garth - could you please explain why the police would put a efit together of a man who was seen in pdl - 2 WEEKS before maddie dissapeared? They were however showing round the rather helpful description of egg man that Ms Tanner had provided them with.
Ms Tanner is on record - panorama - as saying that she didn’t see his face.
It was only LAST WEEK that ms Tanner said that she thought Ms Coopers efit ‘could be’ the same man.

It obviouslky does need explaining..
Firstly, we know the PJ didnt take Tanner seriously. Why? Who knows. But what they should have done is put together an e-fit of this person, not some scrawny pic of a man with a parting in his hair. That is the first indication as to the unproffesionalism of the PJ.
The second point is that the sighting by Cooper was indeed two weeks or whatever prior to May 3rd. But if you’re going to try and track someone down then you dont just ignore a statement, you do something about it. They again should have recognised any similarities with Tanners sighting if indeed there were. Again, an e-fit or artists impression should have been put together. Its a matter of illimination afterall. They havent got much evidence with regard to an abduction and I can see why. They are not interested.

Everyone should chill out - the increase in wriggling on the hook is a very good sign imo. Once some real meat gets thrown out into the media bearpit (sorry unfortunate phrase) by PJ all this chicanery will rebound on the perpetrators and add to the guilt.
