Do those shows take advertising? They do. What will the ad-breaks induce viewers to buy? What is the point of the interview? The McCanns cannot discuss the case.
Says the McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell: “We are not in the market for selling Kate and Gerry’s story to the highest bidder. And we are not impressed by big names. We talk to media from all over the world”

A heinous crime for which he was punished. But what has it to do with Madeleine McCann?

Day 268 and where is the investigation, no charges, no arrests and no evidence. The evidence part despite the PJ claiming, they had a good idea of what happened, before the first set of evidence papers was submitted. The magistrate begged to differ on that point, after reading the evidence collated by the PJ, he advised that they would have to come up with a lot better than they had, it would also appear that the two main suspects appear to have left the jurisdiction of the Portuguese, with the blessing of the Portuguese authorities. Is this incompetence or lack of evidence, that has allowed this to happen. Perhaps certain Anorakians can supply the evidence that the PJ appear incapable of doing so, that is the Anorakians who have acted as judge and jury and have found the McCanns guilty of being implicated or responsible for the disappearance of Madeleine.

Personally I dont think the parents are resented by the media and I have seen little sign that the media is attacking them at all, so Im not quite sure what this writer is basing his discussion on.
This is another example of the media propagating the lie that the media is unfair to the McCanns, its not. The media, especially ‘popular low brow’ television, is definately biased in favour of them. The written media is trying desperately hard not to end up in court. Strangely the tabloids are seemingly out of touch wih popular feeling, that the McCanns are not ‘innocent’ and this circus is not about finding any child, but about defending the McCanns and delivering to them new careers.
There has been virtually zero serious investigative journalism and no attempt at all to make clear the basis of the McCann circus, the fact that they did not deliver to their children adequate care, despite the mother being a GP, trained specifically to identify child neglect.
Your posting this and attempting to present it as ‘interesting from either side of the debate’ is to deliberately ignore its underlying assumption before it begins the discussion.
Please dont underestimate the posters here, you are only addressing the general public when dealing with sledgehammer and his/her ilk.

Exactly what I was thinking. But even though they can’t do it, they can generate a huge amount of free media exposure simply with the news/discussion of the offer by Oprah and Walters. This opens the huge American market filled with plenty of people who are ignorant enough to wish them well, and to send them money.
Perhaps for a reduced fee, the McCanns could just sit silently on the show while their spokesman Mr Pink Shirt cunningly evades the questions. Kate could pretend to be wiping a tear every once in a while, and there would be no need for Gerry to be squeezing her hand or whispering to her. He could just sit there looking longingly at the little girls in the audience. At the end of the show, Kate would give the Metodo3 telephone number, and Gerry could pick the Madeleine look-alike winner from the audience, whose prize is a week long holiday with the McCanns, and a movie role if she is not abducted.

Now, if the McCs went on the Montel Williams Show instead of Oprah, he regularly has the psychic guest, Sylvia Browne. She delivers info on the whereabouts of the audiance’s missing persons at the speed of gunfire.
Haven’t seen any check up programmes, however.
