Madeleine McCann: Oprah Winfrey, Barbara Walters And Rape
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY EXPRESS: “MADELEINE: £1M WAR FOR MCCANN INTERVIEW”
“AMERICA’S top chat show hosts are locked in a bidding war for an exclusive interview with the parents of Madeleine McCann. Oprah Winfrey and Barbara Walters have each pledged £1million in an attempt to get them in front of the TV cameras, it emerged yesterday”
Winfrey and Walters - the Pope and Queen Mother of Ameican TV chatter…
Do those shows take advertising? They do. What will the ad-breaks induce viewers to buy? What is the point of the interview? The McCanns cannot discuss the case.
Says the McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell: “We are not in the market for selling Kate and Gerry’s story to the highest bidder. And we are not impressed by big names. We talk to media from all over the world”
But money is important. The fighting fun is running low
DAILY MAIL: “Kate and Gerry McCann in £1million deal to tell all to Oprah Winfrey”
“Kate and Gerry McCann are at the centre of a bidding war between Oprah Winfrey and Barbara Walters.
“Both celebrities are desperate to land an exclusive deal for the couple to talk about their missing daughter. If it goes ahead, it will be the largest publicly-known amount ever paid for a broadcast interview”
Says Clarence Mitchell: “We have been approached by representatives for both Oprah and Barbara,” he added. “They want an exclusive interview with Kate and Gerry. We are discussing it but it doesn’t mean we are definitely doing it. Nothing has been agreed”
Why wouldn’t they do it?
PRESS ASSOCIATION: “US chat shows approach McCanns”
“Kate and Gerry McCann have been approached to appear on the Oprah Winfrey show and for an interview with American network ABC, their spokesman has confirmed.
It was reported that the McCanns were at the centre of a bidding war worth £1 million between Winfrey and ABC star Barbara Walters who both want an exclusive interview with the couple.
THE SUN: “Maddie sketch farmer raped girl”
“The gun-toting pig farmer quizzed in the Maddie McCann hunt was once jailed for raping a British teenager — in Praia da Luz. Joaquim Jose Marques, 31, who bears a resemblance to the sketch of a mystery suspect, served five years. Portuguese cops who grilled him twice at his ramshackle farmhouse nearby are now convinced he is NOT the man in the drawing”
NOT the man. So why is he in the papers?
“But we can reveal Marques and a pal carried out a brutal attack on two British girls, aged 17 and 18, after prowling the beach in July 1995 at the resort where Maddie vanished”
A heinous crime for which he was punished. But what has it to do with Madeleine McCann?
DAILY STAR: “MADDIE WEIRDO RAPED TEEN BRIT”
“The gun-toting Portuguese pig farmer quizzed over Madeleine McCann’s disappearance raped a British teenager yards from where the four-year-old vanished. Joaquim Jose Marques put his 18-year-old victim through a horrific late-night sex ordeal while an accomplice targeted her pal”
Eighteen..
“Now locals fear he is the same man pictured on a ‘wanted’ poster issued by the McCanns as they step up the hunt for their daughter”
Local residents, or local reporters? And is “fear” really “hope”?
DAILY MIRROR: “Madeleine McCann suspect spotted ’spying on little boys’”
“Five women holidaymakers - three British and two German - have seen the “strange and disturbed” man in Altura, close to the Portuguese-Spanish border, in the past two weeks. One of the British witnesses noticed him on the beach on January 21 bending down to talk to the boys, aged about four or five.
“Clearly worried, one of the youngsters started shaking his head mid-conversation. Then a woman ran out of a nearby villa, shouting in alarm. She scooped the children up and hurried them away.”
Adults. children. Run, children, run!
DAILY TELEGRAPH (Aus): “Oprah’s $2m bid for Maddie chat”
“Mr Mitchell said the McCanns would only agree to a deal which would widen the search for their daughter. The couple, both doctors, also want to campaign for a better Europe-wide alert system for missing children, based on an American model”
A campaign

Actually, may I suggest that you limit your ‘discussion’ of this case with sledgehammer as you have more in common with him/her than with me? He or she too has a limited agenda, wishing to protect and defend the McCanns, despite their ‘disasterous’ attempts at being parents.
———————————
I respect your feelings of disgust towards the McCanns for their failings as parents, but to keep going on about other posters who dont share your views with regard to a conspiracy is somewhat naive.
Whether you like it or not, the McCanns may be innocent of any involvement with the disappearance of their daughter, and to that end I think it right that we question all aspects of this case and inparticular the PJ, who, after all this time, are still unable to bring charges against them.

I am proud to say that i never even noticed K’s chest until she started banging on about it. I generally don’t look at suspected criminals for my sexual kicks. Call me mad but i was more concerned with the whereabouts on their child.
Don’t be jealous “your so very beautiful when you are who you are” Gil Scott- Heron.

Correction and clarification - I may have led you astray.
I do not read a regular single newspaper low or high brow, as they are merely opinions and can lead to influencing a persons beliefs in a one dimensional way. However, I do read the Anorak extracts and the newspapers web sites when drawn to them from here by some of the excellent posters (who are almost exclusively not pro-McCanns, which is ‘interesting’)
If I gave you the impression that I dont watch TV, I apologise, as in my house it is somewhat difficult to avoid (it seems no room in the house, apart from the obvious ones, is without the presence of some kind of incoming broadcast!).
I also have many feeds coming in to my laptop and desktop PC’s - its difficult to avoid various versions of the news (note VERSIONS).

coolandcalm does not like Ian because his posts are longer and more intelligent than hers. She hates competition

Man on hill - do i detect so malice directed at K’s chest? is it just because woman on hill is more/less well endowed?
personally i am very jealous of kates chest and i wish i were her size….
… would save me a fortune in ‘over the shoulder boulder holders’ !

My god! Did coolandcalm attack someone for not being funny? really?
For the record i find Ian’s posts occasionally very funny but coolandcalm’s jokes are flatter than K’s chest.

Sledgehammer,
you have still not made any comment which suggests that you may have even the faintest glimmerings of comprehension of what Norris’ case is about.
For someone who claims legal knowledge you seem remarkable reluctant to ever display it, even bearing in mind you are not being paid.
So put up, or shut up, dear Sledgehammer; is conspiracy to defraud bad law, and will the Law Lords say so?

Ian…. how do you know the news and views of the low-brow (or even high brow) media when you keep stating obsessively that you don’t read papers or watch TV?
How can you know anything of any relevance if you depend only on satirical internet forums for your information??
Maybe accounts for your total lack of insight, debating skills and humour?!

Ian has been awarded the Golden Helmet of the Order of the Knights of Anorak for behaviour above and beyond the call of duty in providing us with a stompingly good series of posts under severe provocation.
Perhaps you would provide us some posts so that we can see if you are capable of the same? At the moment you seem unable to refrain from ad hominem attacks on him…
January 26th, 2008 at 10:05 am
I was thinking, why would you drug your children? What did you not want them to see? Even when i am having the most explicit sex with woman on the hill it has never crossed my mind to sedate the kids. I would rather they got their sexual imprinting from reality than porn anyway. No, if sex was involved then it was the sort of sex that you definitely wouldn’t want the kids to find out about. Therefore the accusations of the kids being in one room makes sense if K+G were swingers worried that their dirty secret would ruin their clean image. IM(and lots and lots of others)O.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing (I know you love the quotes!).
Your meagre understanding of legal matters is impacting on your ability to absorb and accept knowledge.
The issues of law - especially in different and overlapping at different levels jurisprudence - are far too complex for discussion here, especially with someone like yourself (lacking a fundamental legal training or rudimentary understanding of even principles of justice).
Im not qualified to attempt to address such complexity either, I’m only a second year student (with 30 years unrelated professional experience to overcome!) .
I’m going to refer to you as ‘m’lud’ from now on, its purely satirical so please dont let it cause any inflation or deflation of your ego.
Sadly you dont grasp the difference between morality and law, understanding, knowledge and legally submissable evidence, police investigative processes, forensics, psychology or statutory interpretion etc etc etc. Neither do you seem to accept that we are not in possession of all the facts, though you do like to make repetative and selective announcements regarding evidencial requirements!
In short, I put it to you that you are an ill-informed and low brow idiot, M’Lud.

Sledgehammer,
Even you should be embarrassed at putting posts 49 and 51 in together , and if you had any knowledge of the law in general ,and Norris’s case in particular, you would realise that you had just managed to quote the irrelevant part of the Financial Time’s article you were lifting, though not acknowledging.
So, shall we start again?
What did you think of Sumption’s arguments?

There were some serious disturbances to the natural order in PDL during McCann holiday week.
Dates shifted on cameras, blankets appeared and dissapeared, windows opened and shut, shutters broke and repaired themselves, the angles of doors altered, levels of illumination in apartments altered, directions of motion changed, the characteristic effects on colours of sodium street lamps changed, children disappeared, memories were altered……
There is more of Star ‘Trek’ than Star ‘Chart’ afoot in this saga.

You really do need to work on your presentation.
Perhaps along with my suggestion for attending night school for gaining a foundation in law, you might include essay writing? I’d recomend it if you are to take up any academic stidies, its an essential skill.
Sorry about being ‘tunnl visioned’ and ‘narrow minded’ and ‘insecure’ (see previous accusations by yourself and coolandcalm) but the point seems to be escaping you.
The McCanns were the fundamental cause of the loss of their child - it really cannot be blamed on the police or any other authorities. The failed in their duty of care and the learning is, quite simply, dont put pleasure before duty and responsibility. Do not leave children exposed to risks - accidents happen and tiny children really arent capable of looking after themselves.
BUPA and the NSPCC advise NEVER to leave children under 10 alone for any time.

Blankets have a remarkable quality of transparency in the McCann case. They seem almost to be in another dimension, perhaps the same tear in space and time as has impacted on the regularity of the groups child checking (which uniquely focussed on the McCann children) is at work.
Fluctuations in the height build and ‘velocity’ (diectional speed) of the abductor could alos have been caused by damage to the time space continuum?

No one in the press seems keen to answer the question of why they should imagine a man jailed for raping an 18 year old woman might be interested in a 3, going on 4, year old girl.
No one in the press seems keen on noticing that the Portuguese appear to do rather better than we do at finding and successfully prosecuting a rapist.
No one, apart from the journos, seems to ‘fear’ that he is the same man, which may be pissing him off a bit.
After all, a rock solid alibi, put together with a ‘wanted’ poster identifying him as a probable paedophile kidnapper, should provide some capital for the pig farm…
