Madeleine McCann: Duarte Levy, Clarence Mitchell And The Daily Mirror
DUARTE Levy writes on the case of Madeleine McCann. He alleges that that Clarence Mitchell, the McCanns’ PR adviser, is “using the Government’s services to keep watch on journalists and forum participants.” Says Mr Levy:
Clarence Mitchell, the McCann’s PR adviser and spokesman, continues to make use of the British government’s services despite having officially resigned from his position as director of the Media Monitoring Unit*. The accusation comes from a Home Office source who has stated that the outgoing director had called upon his former service to keep a watch not only on several journalists but also on the behaviour of participants in a list of forums and blogs considered to be “highly detrimental to the image of the McCanns and that of the British government”.
Can what Mr Levy alleges be true? And if it is, why would it be a big deal for the McCanns’ spokesman to keep an eye on the web, and get what help he can? Mr Levy continues:
Clarence Mitchell, a former journalist for the Daily Express and the BBC, was seconded by the Foreign Office to act as a liaison officer between the media and Madeleine’s parents. Through the intermediary of the respective British embassies, it was he who organised the McCann’s visits to the Vatican, Madrid, Berlin, Amsterdam and Rabat.
Since the very early days, media monitoring has been an important part of Clarence Mitchell’s work. While the McCann’s were in Praia da Luz, it was he who decided to separate journalists according to nationality: the British first, and the Portuguese last.
Today, the McCann’s PR campaign relies more than ever on monitoring public opinion: over the past few days several UK forums and blogs have been shut down due to “anti-McCann” comments. Amongst them is the Mirror newspaper’s forum, which erased all comments about the case without warning when the participants started to debate Home Office interference.
No response from Mr Mitchell is quoted in Mr Levy’s email to us. But why did the Daily Mirror close its forum? Anyone from those forums care to tell us what they know?

So maybe he checked at 9:00 to 9:10 as he claimed, then chatted to Jes until 9:20, back to Tapas bar at 9:30. Kate checked at 10, so an abductor had time from 9:30 to 10:00. Plenty of time. Used door to exit, maybe sliding door was open for entry.

We don’t know when this happened and if it’s got anything to do with the disappearance of Madeleine. Weren’t it wooden tiles? Really serious scrubbing to remove blood doesn’t dry very quick if it’s not warm.

Actually I do wish there were some funny pro-McCanns - its funny how the character is all on the non-pro side.
I suppose its bcause pro-McCanns have to be in the minority (as Antis and Neutrals seem the same as none of them support the idea of abduction as its not possible unless the McCanns admit the checking was a little less often than they claim!).
I wish theyd admit they didnt check quite as often as they claim as its obstructing any chance of proving abduction. Rock and hard place!

I still think we should swap sides and try to prove there was an abduction.
Here’s my theory in pro-abduction mode.
Kate and Gerry go to the Tapas Bar or Chaplins every night between 7:30 and closing time.
On 3rd May they go out at 7:30. Somehow Tanner and O’Brien learn their daughter is being sick - probably they are checking because she was a bit unwell before they went out.
As they pass the McCanns apartment they notice something (shutter up?). They mention it to Kate so she goes to check at about 10:00 (might have been later) - Madeleine has gone.
So the McCanns arent lying that she was abducted and they know it was easily possible because they just werent checking - all the doors were locked hence 100% certainty it was abduction. Obviously this wouldnt look good so they say the door was open and they embellish the timing to make it look better.
Im not sure why they dont say it must have been someone with a key.

But then some posters never try to debate - they always lose - which is very interesting.
Someone who is completely neutral could read the posts and would go away with only ‘one’ argument having been presented - the multiple theories which are based on there being no abduction!
