Madeleine McCann: Tabloid Snap, Metodo 3 PD and McCanns Innocent
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY MIRROR: “I’M NOT GUILTY”
“A loner who looks like a drawing of a ‘creepy’ Madeleine McCann suspect has denied any links to her disappearance”
Joaquim Agostinho says: “It’s not me in the picture. I accept that the drawing looks like me”
The Mirror reports: “The former cockle picker, who lives in Altura, 90 miles from Praia da Luz, added: ‘I did not kill Madeleine and I’ve never been to Praia da Luz. I cannot even drive’”
But still his picture is in the paper in connection with a story about a missing child. Fingers are pointed
MADELEINE in Chile. What news of that? “Yesterday, police ruled out a “Madeleine” sighting in Chile after the girl was identified as American Haylee Dreyer, six”
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE – Amazing lookalike: ‘I did not kidnap and kill her’”
Mr Agostinho looks like an artist’s impression of man whom British tourist Gail Cooper says she saw acting hanging around Praia da Luz. He is the “oddball”
Page 11: “DRIFTER MATCHES NEW MADELEINE SUSPECT”
Matches. Like in a game of snap? Snap! Snap! Snap!
“Investigators want to quiz a Portuguese drifter suspected of involvement in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. Detectives working for the youngster’s parents are to question Joaquim Agostinho, 42, in the resort of Altura”
Does he have to speak with the McCanns detectives?
“Mr Agostinho, who lives in Altura, said yesterday: ‘I did not kill Madeleine and I’ve never been to Praia da Luz. I cannot even drive.’ Altura is close to the Spanish border and detectives from Metodo 3 – the agency working for the McCanns – were last night travelling there from their headquarters in Barcelona”
Again, does he have to speak with private detectives?
THE SUN: “McCANN COPS QUIZ SUSPECT LOOKALIKE”
“Detectives are to quiz a drifter who looks uncannily like a mystery suspect in Maddie McCann’s disappearance. Joaquim Agostinho, 42, denies he is the creepy man depicted in a sketch issued by parents Kate and Gerry McCann
“But Metodo 3, the Spanish private investigators hired by the McCanns, are taking the possibility seriously”
Is Metodo 3 now a police force?
A source close to Metodo 3 says: “We are going to be talking to this man as a priority, to establish if he is the one Mrs Cooper saw”
What of the McCanns?
“COPS now accept Kate and Gerry, both 39, may be innocent in Maddie’s disappearance, it has emerged. They have so far clung to just one theory — that Maddie was accidentally killed and her parents disposed of her body. Now they are taking seriously the alternative that she was snatched from the holiday apartment last May — which Kate and Gerry have always insisted must have happened”
DAILY MAIL: “Is this drifter the man in Madeleine drawing?”
Mr Agostinho says no. He delivers newspapers for a living. He says he is innocent
Metodo 3 are looking to speak with him
DAILY STAR: “MADDIE: THREE MEN RULED OUT – McCanns’ new hopes shattered”
It’s not Joaquim Jose Marques – police have ruled him out; and the Star was so certain
It’s not the girl in Chile – she’s a girl on holiday with her family
It’s not Joaquim Agostinho – he says it’s not him
METRO: “Twins play ‘find Maddie’”
“Leading world sex crimes expert Ray Wyre” has met with Kate and Gerry McCann
He sees the McCanns’ twins children. Wyre tells the paper: “They said they were going to go and find the monster that took Maddie. Then they dashed off to play the game. It’s a sad story, but it is healthy that Madeleine remains a real presence in their lives”
“A spokesman for the McCanns denied the story”
Madeleine McCann: No news is still news

Pleased to hear that. I had noted that you were dealing expertly with the poster’s comments on the forum.

The McCanns did seem to be going around telling everyone of their child care arrangements…
_______________________________
No Peter.
More likely they went around telling everyone they left the kids so they could use that as their story and nobody would challenge it. If someone told you that you regularly, night after night left your kids as the Mc’s did, you wouldn’t believe it. But if they openly did it and went around telling people then it’s more likely that the whole thing WAS premeditated and leaving the kids every night was to make the story fit what they were telling everyone.
Frankly if you didn’t know they were doing this and there was no evidence of leaving the kids alone, you, me, Ian, and everyone else wouldn’t believe it.

Let me jsut clarify - I also believe that leaving the children alone night after night was not a mistake, it was a criminal act.
These people are not naive teenagers, they are highly paid professional medical people whose judgement must be beyond reproach regarding issues such as child care, neglect etc.
They took the most appalling risks with their children, not because there may have been abductors lurking, though it would have been something I’d have considered, but because of other more mundane and normal risks, falling, choking, fire, carbon monoxide emissions, awaking alone and being scared even!
They are reported to have taken these risks every night and even to have been much further away than they admit. They should accept the consequnces and not try to hide the times they left the children, so that if there were an abductor, the distraction of how this could have been possible would be removed.
The fact that they dont simply increases suspicions and reduces opportunity.

Look closely at the edge around Gerry on Last Photo. There’s a load of inconsistencies:
1. His right arm is heavily blurred from the elbow to where it meets his thigh.
2. The edges of his shirt seem to be “cut out” as a series of flats rather than smooth.
3. His right thigh is heavily blurred around his knee.
4. Zoom in on his right fingertips. The flesh tone versus the background is a flat line with no anti-aliasing.
5. His left elbow is blurred and has a halo around it - see Madeleine super close up.
6. Where is Amelie’s right arm? Gerry would have to be sitting on it.
7. There is no vertical feature between Gerry and Kate. So, what is it reflecting in Gerry’s left sunglass lens? The lenses look flat so an object would have to be in Gerry’s line of sight to reflect in the lens.
Even more compelling. Remember I told you recently I had a model the same height and build as Madeleine? Well, the arm measurement from armpit to wrist is about 10″ on a 35″ tall person in proportion. Look at the Last Photo. No way is Madeleine’s arm 10″ long from armpit to wrist…if the rest of the photo is supposed to be in proportion.

I am reacting a bit late. But the need for a priest, to me evokes the last rites.
Traditionnally, a Catholic doesn’t want the one he loves or himself to pass away without receiving the last rites either before death if possible, or after if too late. In France, the name has been changed from “les derniers sacrements” ((the last sacraments) to “the sacrament for the sick” (Le sacrement des malades). It brings comfort to the dying one, according to the church. It helps the soul to give itself to God. A catholic sees a sacrament as a living symbol of the presence of God. It is given by a man (the priest) but is seen as an actual gift from God.
When I heard K MC wanted a priest, I thought she didn’t want her daughter to go without the last rites. Which made me think that the little girl had passed away, and that her mother didn’t want her death. It is only my interpretation. I was brought up a Catholic, the old fashionned way. (But religion was passed on me by such a loving Grand-Mère that if God exists, I am sure of his/her kindness. The only problem being : does he/she exist? )

I thought we were ‘discussing’?
Anyway… There is no comparison between what the McCann’s allegedly did and the rape scenario.
In the former scenario, the parents allegedly took a conscious, if perhaps not very well considered, decision to place their young children at risk every evening bar their first evening in PDL. The children had no say/input into whether they wanted to be left in that position of risk.
In the latter scenario, assuming age of consent etc, and adult is taking a conscious decision, albeit you could once again suggest not a very considered one, to place themselves at some risk. They are not placing anyone else, lest of all a minor, at risk.
All that said, if Madeleine was abducted by a stranger(s) in circumstances of which the McCann’s had no prior knowledge, then I do not see how they can be legally considered to be accomplices in that abduction?

We gave our kids Calpol when they were ill - the idea of giving them anything when they were well is abhorrent. Was Madeleine ill on holiday?

If have finally measured the time it takes me to walk from the barbecue place of our house (the house of which I own my flat and an according percentage of the garden) to my flat. It turned out to be 55 sec - more or less the same time that the McCanns needed to walk from the tapas bar to their appartment. I will think about it when we have our annual house summer barbecue 2008.

[……………………….. a lot …………………..]
The fact that women may have been, still are, scared to go to the police following a rape still doesn’t/should not create a set of circumstances in which a lone woman venturing into a certain area dressed in a certain manner can be assumed to have consented to sex with a complete stranger(s). Her actions may be unwise I can accept.
I think [hope] we all agree to that.
However that wasn’t the issue. The issue was Jo’s question whether the parents by leaving the children alone in an unlocked apartment could be considered as or charged as “accomplices of the abductor” [in case there was an abductor].
Ferdinand was sarcastic and compared this with “a woman walking late in the dark, with a short skirt on…..” and thus getting charged for being an accomplice of the rapist.
And then the whole discussion got out of control c.q. disordered………..
