Madeleine McCann: Tabloid Snap, Metodo 3 PD and McCanns Innocent
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY MIRROR: “I’M NOT GUILTY”
“A loner who looks like a drawing of a ‘creepy’ Madeleine McCann suspect has denied any links to her disappearance”
Joaquim Agostinho says: “It’s not me in the picture. I accept that the drawing looks like me”
The Mirror reports: “The former cockle picker, who lives in Altura, 90 miles from Praia da Luz, added: ‘I did not kill Madeleine and I’ve never been to Praia da Luz. I cannot even drive’”
But still his picture is in the paper in connection with a story about a missing child. Fingers are pointed
MADELEINE in Chile. What news of that? “Yesterday, police ruled out a “Madeleine” sighting in Chile after the girl was identified as American Haylee Dreyer, six”
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE – Amazing lookalike: ‘I did not kidnap and kill her’”
Mr Agostinho looks like an artist’s impression of man whom British tourist Gail Cooper says she saw acting hanging around Praia da Luz. He is the “oddball”
Page 11: “DRIFTER MATCHES NEW MADELEINE SUSPECT”
Matches. Like in a game of snap? Snap! Snap! Snap!
“Investigators want to quiz a Portuguese drifter suspected of involvement in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. Detectives working for the youngster’s parents are to question Joaquim Agostinho, 42, in the resort of Altura”
Does he have to speak with the McCanns detectives?
“Mr Agostinho, who lives in Altura, said yesterday: ‘I did not kill Madeleine and I’ve never been to Praia da Luz. I cannot even drive.’ Altura is close to the Spanish border and detectives from Metodo 3 – the agency working for the McCanns – were last night travelling there from their headquarters in Barcelona”
Again, does he have to speak with private detectives?
THE SUN: “McCANN COPS QUIZ SUSPECT LOOKALIKE”
“Detectives are to quiz a drifter who looks uncannily like a mystery suspect in Maddie McCann’s disappearance. Joaquim Agostinho, 42, denies he is the creepy man depicted in a sketch issued by parents Kate and Gerry McCann
“But Metodo 3, the Spanish private investigators hired by the McCanns, are taking the possibility seriously”
Is Metodo 3 now a police force?
A source close to Metodo 3 says: “We are going to be talking to this man as a priority, to establish if he is the one Mrs Cooper saw”
What of the McCanns?
“COPS now accept Kate and Gerry, both 39, may be innocent in Maddie’s disappearance, it has emerged. They have so far clung to just one theory — that Maddie was accidentally killed and her parents disposed of her body. Now they are taking seriously the alternative that she was snatched from the holiday apartment last May — which Kate and Gerry have always insisted must have happened”
DAILY MAIL: “Is this drifter the man in Madeleine drawing?”
Mr Agostinho says no. He delivers newspapers for a living. He says he is innocent
Metodo 3 are looking to speak with him
DAILY STAR: “MADDIE: THREE MEN RULED OUT – McCanns’ new hopes shattered”
It’s not Joaquim Jose Marques – police have ruled him out; and the Star was so certain
It’s not the girl in Chile – she’s a girl on holiday with her family
It’s not Joaquim Agostinho – he says it’s not him
METRO: “Twins play ‘find Maddie’”
“Leading world sex crimes expert Ray Wyre” has met with Kate and Gerry McCann
He sees the McCanns’ twins children. Wyre tells the paper: “They said they were going to go and find the monster that took Maddie. Then they dashed off to play the game. It’s a sad story, but it is healthy that Madeleine remains a real presence in their lives”
“A spokesman for the McCanns denied the story”
Madeleine McCann: No news is still news

Not sure if you’re still around…
One line I’ve been checking out is the John McCann - TV3 bloke. Not sure if he’s related to Gerry or not but he’s big in the TV scene and if he is family, it could help explain a lot.

Increasingly Incredulous
Everyone already admitted that this is a portuguese investigation (including UK police and government). It is governed by portuguese criminal law. If you want to claim any infrigement of portuguese criminal law by the PJ please go ahead and will have something relevant to talk about. Otherwise you’re just wasting everyone’s time.

Very good…reading posts from yesterday I could see you had asked me about your picture captions. I’d seen the picture about a week ago minus captions and other additions but keep them coming. Nothing beats humour in this sad tale.

Stands to reason they are guilty one way or another, why all the confusion that they are deliberately causing, why all the lies?……its pure bullshit,
and the pj know it,if the tables were turned and this was a british case, they would have been pulled in long before now,,,no someone is pulling strings here…imo

Well, I suppose protecting the parents is all the McC camp can do. There is not much chance of justice for Madeleine as she is almost certainly at rest.

I think you miss the point….most replies to your posts are not “engaging”.
More like the boo and hiss in a theatre.
The Judge considered that the investigation should be continued…and he has
much more information, presently, regarding the evidence than you will ever
have.

It’s funny that the small inaccuracy about the distance worked their way, like a dishonest shopkeeper who is a bit inaccurate when he gives you your change back. Funny that someone with a scientific training would care to give you the exact measurement of a distance if it is not going to be perfectly accurate.
Inaccurate once, you give him the benefit of the doubt, though you know they are important witnesses. It only rings a little bell, but you are all the more attentive when they give you new information. Then he wants to make you believe that it was like having dinner in his back garden. OK, another bell rings. Then you hear that the English leave their children alone at night, it is cultural, it is OK with the law, some experts told him. A bigger bell rings. Then you learn that Dr K MC came into contact with a number of corpses due to her part time GP work. I must say it is now like the big bell in Notre-Dame.

“Would you care to contact Admin and request your own thread on this topic? You clearly feel very strongly about the issue, even though most people have been bored to death by it. At least a solo thread that will get you a platform to air your grievence.”
Of course, if you want this forum to be simply a club to express dislike of the McCanns, rather than discussing whether the case against them has any substance - or would stand scrutiny in court, that’s obviously your choice.
I’d suggest, however, that since every single post I’ve put up has got at least one reply, that it’s obviously engaging with a few posters, at least.

Mods and Admin
The dislike that people have for the McCann is for their behaviour first towards the neglect of their children , and then for the media circus that followed.
One of their children has disappeared of the face of the earth. Initially the local police did not suspect her parents, but because of the reaction and subsequent behaviour from them that alone has caused many people to doubt their non involvement in her disappearance.
For balance, I asked you earlier about Murats involvment, how much substance is there in that? and yet you do not defend his points.
So, are you on the side of ‘Justice must be seen to be done’, or are you just interested in absolving the parents only?
What indeed is the substance in the supposed involvement of Robert Murat? we are told he looked creepy because of his eye problem, Madeleine herself has an eye problem, but the same standard she should look ‘creepy’
What has been the response from Robert Murat and the the good doctors when you posed your questions to them?

Very true…..the innocent do not need to refuse to answer investigative questions
and their supporters should not fear the investigation, and should support it, if they
are so confident of their innocence.
It seems that there is a distinct lack of faith , subconsciously, for their “heros” within
the camp of more rabid ones.

I thought you had something to say that refers to the relevant legislation applicable to this case - and that is the Portuguese Criminal Code or more precisely the Codigo de Processo Penal that regulates criminal investigations in Portugal.
Once there is any evidence that an appeal to the European Court of Human Rights is imminent, i’ll be happy to discuss it with you - and that includes Art 6 of the ECHR.
Until then, I concentrate on the relevant legislation and that is not - at this stage - the ECHR but the CPP.
Now… where would you like to start?

“Indeed those who are genuinely interested in what happened to Madeleine should surely be calling for better cooperation between Portuguese and British police - and not seeking refuge in procedural matters within Eurojust”
The bar isn’t set high, Salomon….
“….The purpose for which the evidence or material or other assistance is required and the relevance of the assistance to the investigation or proceedings. A nexus (direct link) must be established between the facts of the case as detailed in the request and the evidence requested. This goes further than just stating that the material is relevant to the case. In reading the case summary the executing authority should be able to anticipate what assistance is required….”
If the PJ can’t establish that, it hardly says much for the basis of their case, does it?

Yes, I know that. I asked for the same attention to be paid in your post where you claimed the UK was ‘much better’.
Clearly your intention is to slant the argument against Portugal.
No matter - frankly I dont really care about the parents. If they are in any way telling falsehoods regarding the events of the night of May 3rd, then they do not deserve the benefit of the convention.
Sadly it matters not to the convention how despicable a criminal might be, the still have ‘human rights’ - even the Soham murderer and others who failed to provide their victims with any human rights as they stifled out their young lives.
Its the side of the law I know I shall most struggle with!
Your defence of the parents should be redirected into a defence of the child and efforts to ensure that others do not abandon and neglect their children in the way the McCanns appear to have done.

I wouldn’t make much case of posters who seem to speculate about legal proceedings as a means to advocate the innocence of two official suspects in the case.
As for the possible failure of the “rogatory letters” as professed by some… I don’t know if it will happen or not… but I do know that whatever happens with the letters and possible interviews will not necessarily be the acid test to show if wether or not the McCanns played any role in Madeleine’s disappearance.
Indeed those who are genuinely interested in what happened to Madeleine should surely be calling for better cooperation between Portuguese and British police - and not seeking refuge in procedural matters within Eurojust. But then again those that lack the interest in finding out the truth are quite rightly enthusiastic about delays and blocking of further interviews.
