Madeleine McCann: Tabloid Snap, Metodo 3 PD and McCanns Innocent
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY MIRROR: “I’M NOT GUILTY”
“A loner who looks like a drawing of a ‘creepy’ Madeleine McCann suspect has denied any links to her disappearance”
Joaquim Agostinho says: “It’s not me in the picture. I accept that the drawing looks like me”
The Mirror reports: “The former cockle picker, who lives in Altura, 90 miles from Praia da Luz, added: ‘I did not kill Madeleine and I’ve never been to Praia da Luz. I cannot even drive’”
But still his picture is in the paper in connection with a story about a missing child. Fingers are pointed
MADELEINE in Chile. What news of that? “Yesterday, police ruled out a “Madeleine” sighting in Chile after the girl was identified as American Haylee Dreyer, six”
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE – Amazing lookalike: ‘I did not kidnap and kill her’”
Mr Agostinho looks like an artist’s impression of man whom British tourist Gail Cooper says she saw acting hanging around Praia da Luz. He is the “oddball”
Page 11: “DRIFTER MATCHES NEW MADELEINE SUSPECT”
Matches. Like in a game of snap? Snap! Snap! Snap!
“Investigators want to quiz a Portuguese drifter suspected of involvement in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. Detectives working for the youngster’s parents are to question Joaquim Agostinho, 42, in the resort of Altura”
Does he have to speak with the McCanns detectives?
“Mr Agostinho, who lives in Altura, said yesterday: ‘I did not kill Madeleine and I’ve never been to Praia da Luz. I cannot even drive.’ Altura is close to the Spanish border and detectives from Metodo 3 – the agency working for the McCanns – were last night travelling there from their headquarters in Barcelona”
Again, does he have to speak with private detectives?
THE SUN: “McCANN COPS QUIZ SUSPECT LOOKALIKE”
“Detectives are to quiz a drifter who looks uncannily like a mystery suspect in Maddie McCann’s disappearance. Joaquim Agostinho, 42, denies he is the creepy man depicted in a sketch issued by parents Kate and Gerry McCann
“But Metodo 3, the Spanish private investigators hired by the McCanns, are taking the possibility seriously”
Is Metodo 3 now a police force?
A source close to Metodo 3 says: “We are going to be talking to this man as a priority, to establish if he is the one Mrs Cooper saw”
What of the McCanns?
“COPS now accept Kate and Gerry, both 39, may be innocent in Maddie’s disappearance, it has emerged. They have so far clung to just one theory — that Maddie was accidentally killed and her parents disposed of her body. Now they are taking seriously the alternative that she was snatched from the holiday apartment last May — which Kate and Gerry have always insisted must have happened”
DAILY MAIL: “Is this drifter the man in Madeleine drawing?”
Mr Agostinho says no. He delivers newspapers for a living. He says he is innocent
Metodo 3 are looking to speak with him
DAILY STAR: “MADDIE: THREE MEN RULED OUT – McCanns’ new hopes shattered”
It’s not Joaquim Jose Marques – police have ruled him out; and the Star was so certain
It’s not the girl in Chile – she’s a girl on holiday with her family
It’s not Joaquim Agostinho – he says it’s not him
METRO: “Twins play ‘find Maddie’”
“Leading world sex crimes expert Ray Wyre” has met with Kate and Gerry McCann
He sees the McCanns’ twins children. Wyre tells the paper: “They said they were going to go and find the monster that took Maddie. Then they dashed off to play the game. It’s a sad story, but it is healthy that Madeleine remains a real presence in their lives”
“A spokesman for the McCanns denied the story”
Madeleine McCann: No news is still news

“The PJ have been silent about the rogatory letters probably because they do things in the proper way, that is to say they do not ask the public to take sides and start a war between both countries.”
The PJ, doing things the proper way? for God’s sake, even the Head of the PJ has admitted his men are responsible for at least some of the leaks….

363 Increasingly Incredulous
You seem very pleased at the ideas you are inventing regarding the McCanns escaping being questioned.
I thought they had nothing to hide and such conversations would only prove their innocence?
Why so geeful in your inventions?
Could it be that you dont really want them having to answer questions?

The McCanns have been very well advised legally from the very start (even by top portuguese solicitors).
They seem to think that they already have enough material to challenge the investigation and have whispered on the hear of the public prosecutor “go no further - don’t press charges”…
In the meantime, and just in case the prosecutor is stupid enough to press charges, they are trying to create a series of events in an attempt for the PJ to make mistakes that may later be used in court to demonstrate that the investigation has not been properly carried out.
The McCanns are not credible IMO. They and their reputable advisers know very well that the only possibility (technically in the law) to have their arguido status lifted would be to go back to portugal and subject themselves to a new interview (acariaçao).
Yet, they say that they won’t go back to Portugal as long as they are arguidos…that says it all IMO.

I think those random blokes will be consulting Lawyers…if they can afford them
Unless they got backing then there’s no way they could afford them UNFORTUNATELY!

“To date they have publicly expressed their discomfort with the fact that they were made official suspects (and so has Murat). But they have not pursued as far as I’m aware any other legal action. Why not ? Could you clarify?”
And, of course, part of the issue is that there IS no legal course of action to challenge their status.
Even the hearings concerning extension of Arguido status and extensions of Judical Secrecy are held “in camera” without representation of the suspect.
Which in and of itself would seem to be an ECHR breach.

Most people would be ‘unhappy’ to be made suspects, Murat has frequently said so, noone has bothered about that. Do you feel that noone should ever be suspected and just charged and arrested? Would that apply worldwide or just in countries where UK nationals visit and get into trouble? There is nothing stopping either the good doctors or Murat from contacting Amnesty Intnl to plead their case.
Surely its up to the individual to prove and pursue justice , if they feel they are being denied it.
But in this case surely the investigation surrounds the whereabouts and wellbeing of a small child, or is she of lesser importance as she is just a minor. To me she is the most important figure in all of this, and proving who the perpetrators are is very important, and if its proved its her parents, then they pay.
But of course at the moment they are at their home in Rothley in England?

The PJ have been silent about the rogatory letters probably because they do things in the proper way, that is to say they do not ask the public to take sides and start a war between both countries. They don’t have to justify themselves with the public opinion for what they do. And something tells me that the British Authorities prefer it that way too. Speed is not necessarily good where justice is concerned.
January 28th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
Is it legal to publicly connect any random bloke to the abduction of a child? Don’t random blokes get to sue for libel or invasion of privacy or something?

We were just about to sculpt a cuddlepigeon when you appeared.
Now be fair to Brandon, and get her some nice waterproof mascara, she has to look good on tv not a blotchy splodgy mess with streaks running down her face, anyway it’ll make Pigeon Fanciers Weekly. Or are you a Homing pigeon too?

The PJ did not make any “deal” with Dr K.
Dr K’s lawyer debunked that lie.
Yet Philomena McCann has regularly repeated it…with some changes re
the how and where.

Now the telegraph adds two very interesting features to the story of the new look alike.
- the new suspect is apparently spanish and not portuguese (???)
- the drawing has a mouth full of teeth whereas this poor bloke seems to have only two front teeth…

“Mrs Cooper said she was sure Mr Marques, who has dreadlocks, was not the man she saw. But she added: “This new man must be interviewed, if only because they need to rule him out of inquiries.”

“Xenophobia is a different matter. It is utterly unfair at the least, and experience tellks us that people who use it as a weapon don’t mean well.”
You rightly suggested that the McCanns could have said something about that, because in the given context their word might have some weight. But it didn’t come to their mind, because it’s not on their agenda. That’s what I meant. They get a lot of public support and awareness, they are privileged people. What are they returning to the public for this? If you are treated privilegedly by the society, you should be able to justify this, at least by acting responsable in public, give something in return. A responsable statement of the kind you suggested would cost them nothing.
