Madeleine McCann: Tabloid Snap, Metodo 3 PD and McCanns Innocent
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY MIRROR: “I’M NOT GUILTY”
“A loner who looks like a drawing of a ‘creepy’ Madeleine McCann suspect has denied any links to her disappearance”
Joaquim Agostinho says: “It’s not me in the picture. I accept that the drawing looks like me”
The Mirror reports: “The former cockle picker, who lives in Altura, 90 miles from Praia da Luz, added: ‘I did not kill Madeleine and I’ve never been to Praia da Luz. I cannot even drive’”
But still his picture is in the paper in connection with a story about a missing child. Fingers are pointed
MADELEINE in Chile. What news of that? “Yesterday, police ruled out a “Madeleine” sighting in Chile after the girl was identified as American Haylee Dreyer, six”
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE – Amazing lookalike: ‘I did not kidnap and kill her’”
Mr Agostinho looks like an artist’s impression of man whom British tourist Gail Cooper says she saw acting hanging around Praia da Luz. He is the “oddball”
Page 11: “DRIFTER MATCHES NEW MADELEINE SUSPECT”
Matches. Like in a game of snap? Snap! Snap! Snap!
“Investigators want to quiz a Portuguese drifter suspected of involvement in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. Detectives working for the youngster’s parents are to question Joaquim Agostinho, 42, in the resort of Altura”
Does he have to speak with the McCanns detectives?
“Mr Agostinho, who lives in Altura, said yesterday: ‘I did not kill Madeleine and I’ve never been to Praia da Luz. I cannot even drive.’ Altura is close to the Spanish border and detectives from Metodo 3 – the agency working for the McCanns – were last night travelling there from their headquarters in Barcelona”
Again, does he have to speak with private detectives?
THE SUN: “McCANN COPS QUIZ SUSPECT LOOKALIKE”
“Detectives are to quiz a drifter who looks uncannily like a mystery suspect in Maddie McCann’s disappearance. Joaquim Agostinho, 42, denies he is the creepy man depicted in a sketch issued by parents Kate and Gerry McCann
“But Metodo 3, the Spanish private investigators hired by the McCanns, are taking the possibility seriously”
Is Metodo 3 now a police force?
A source close to Metodo 3 says: “We are going to be talking to this man as a priority, to establish if he is the one Mrs Cooper saw”
What of the McCanns?
“COPS now accept Kate and Gerry, both 39, may be innocent in Maddie’s disappearance, it has emerged. They have so far clung to just one theory — that Maddie was accidentally killed and her parents disposed of her body. Now they are taking seriously the alternative that she was snatched from the holiday apartment last May — which Kate and Gerry have always insisted must have happened”
DAILY MAIL: “Is this drifter the man in Madeleine drawing?”
Mr Agostinho says no. He delivers newspapers for a living. He says he is innocent
Metodo 3 are looking to speak with him
DAILY STAR: “MADDIE: THREE MEN RULED OUT – McCanns’ new hopes shattered”
It’s not Joaquim Jose Marques – police have ruled him out; and the Star was so certain
It’s not the girl in Chile – she’s a girl on holiday with her family
It’s not Joaquim Agostinho – he says it’s not him
METRO: “Twins play ‘find Maddie’”
“Leading world sex crimes expert Ray Wyre” has met with Kate and Gerry McCann
He sees the McCanns’ twins children. Wyre tells the paper: “They said they were going to go and find the monster that took Maddie. Then they dashed off to play the game. It’s a sad story, but it is healthy that Madeleine remains a real presence in their lives”
“A spokesman for the McCanns denied the story”
Madeleine McCann: No news is still news

Maybe they are too engrossed into their pain to think of that, - though I would personally hate it that some paper pretends to be on my side with such vile stuff- but they have a PR who has experience as to monitoring the press, he could do it for them. And as you say, it would cost them nothing.
There was a case one day : something happened to a child, and the perpatrator wasn’t a “Monsieur Dupont”, he happened to be of North African origine. At once a xenophobic political party used the case to utter xenophobic stuff. The parents instantly had it said all over the media that they wouldn’t suffer anybody to use their sorrow to xenophobic ends.

Hmmmm we have met on here before I believe? You’d love them to answer questions - after ‘we’ know what the questions are and whats the evidence backing them?
You sound as arrogant as the McCanns themselves.
Since when does one need evidence to seek evidence? How quaint. No case would ever be brought to court!

So clarify for me… in Britain, when I’m suspect of committing a crime, but have not yet been charged, I can apply “not to be a suspect” and have a tribunal examining my request?
Really, could you explain that to me? How can an independent tribunal (as you eloquently put it) examine or rule on the status of a suspect in a criminal investigation?
Are you taking drugs?

ii fails to see that it is in the McCann’s interest to go to Court if innocent.
If Legal Technicalities prevent a Hearing or sabotage a Hearing…they will
be forever suspected by a vast number of people.
But I don’t think they relish the thought of being in Court.
Dr G P won’t be allowed in the Dock together with Dr K to operate her strings.

They seem to think that they already have enough material to challenge the investigation and have whispered on the hear of the public prosecutor “go no further - don’t press charges”…
It seems like the prosecutor is not stupid.Otherwise he would have already pressed charges.
I didnt know this part of the law about their arguido status.
Something is not in their favor at all….

I know its so frustrating!!!
GRRRRRRRRR!!
Even the Queen herself gets worse press and our prime minister!!

Increasingly…. - you state -
I’d love them to answer the questions - just after we know what the questions are, and what’s the evidence backing them!
What right have we got to know what questions the PJ may want to pose?
Likewise, at this stage, what right do we have to know what evidence they have?
Maybe you’d better stick with the bullsh*t - when people understand you they can see what nonsense you spout!

“The Codigo de Processo Penal provides that any suspect may apply to have its status reviewed having for that to be subject to further interviews OR OTHER MOTIONS DEEMED NECESSARY BY THE MAGISTRATE”
In other words, by the same Judge who imposed the status in the first place.
Do you quite understand the process of appeal? You know, little things like independent tribunals…?
January 28th, 2008 at 2:35 pm
Increasingly incredulous Says:
“perhaps you’d like to tell us what’s the process by which someone can appeal Arguido status?”
What sense would that make? The arguido status gives you additional rights.
It would only make sense to appeal against bail conditions if there were any.
January 28th, 2008 at 2:35 pm
II
Why only weeks ago did their status of suspects go up to “prime” suspects?
Because of lack of evidence?
January 28th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
Brandon
I don’t get why people are squealing about a witch-hunt against Kate and Gerry, when the only criticism comes from blogs and forums, and the Portuguese (who the British media have trashed).
It’s Murat, his girlfriend, the parents of blonde 4 year olds and Men who look like the “Abductor” who are getting the worst of it.
January 28th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
432 Incresingly Incredulous
What you are saying is simply false and shows how little you know of what you are talking about.
The Codigo de Processo Penal provides that any suspect may apply to have its status reviewed having for that to be subject to further interviews or other motions deemed necessary by the magistrate.
In short… the McCanns may have their status reviewed - for that they can very simply go back to portugal and answer the questions that they have failed to answer in their previous official interview.
Please stop writing nonsense and lies. Anyone that believes that the Codigo de Processo Penal in Portugal (which is rather similar to many other European countries) is in anyway a violation of the European Convention of Human Rights is free to bring the case to the competent instances. You just talk rubbish, PLease, Please stop.

Very exciting isnt it, the idea that these parents could escape from any punishment for their failure in delivering their primary duty of care as parents?
You seem to be salivating at the prospect. Do you dislike children?

Were responsible…..past tense.
Nothing to do with now.
January 28th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
interesting false logic Real Stig+Garth are using: Kate was showing grief = It could not have been homicide + cover up. Absolutely wrong. Obviously she was grieving - she has just killed her own child - in my opinion! Edited ca 28 15.42
If a mother hits her child in a bout of rage and suddenly the child dies, the mother WILL grieve , and very intensely. If this mother also has hardly any moral standards, this mother will engage in a cover up, in order to keep the other kids. The goal big enough to “justify” a cover-up.
The major expression on K.’s face is fear. Fear of being found out. Fear of being found out by her family, fear of looking in her own children’s eyes. Fear of Gerry.
The first interview - look of panic. Later - look of the person who accepts living in fear and knows keeping her secret is worth it - not to lose her other children.
And the other piece of upside-down logic by inc-inc. “If PJ have not charged Mc., it means there is not enough evidence”. No, it means that some forces are in the way of justice. It means that some influental likes of Sledgy and coolandcalm are obstructing justice so strongly that even with the good evidence no one has been charged yet.
January 28th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
“Could it be that you dont really want them having to answer questions?”
I’d love them to answer the questions - just after we know what the questions are, and what’s the evidence backing them!
Salomon,
perhaps you’d like to tell us what’s the process by which someone can appeal Arguido status?

And what of the McCanns and exposing their children to risks of accident and, stretching likelihood, abduction by stranger?
Are you only concerned at the McCanns being protected?
You seem to have attended the same law school as sledgehammer (the google school of law!).
Should I now refer to you as ‘my learned friend’?

I understand it that the aim is the police can address the arguidos if they want to address them. Therefore an announcement of the current address should be sufficiant.
