Madeleine McCann: Tabloid Snap, Metodo 3 PD and McCanns Innocent
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY MIRROR: “I’M NOT GUILTY”
“A loner who looks like a drawing of a ‘creepy’ Madeleine McCann suspect has denied any links to her disappearance”
Joaquim Agostinho says: “It’s not me in the picture. I accept that the drawing looks like me”
The Mirror reports: “The former cockle picker, who lives in Altura, 90 miles from Praia da Luz, added: ‘I did not kill Madeleine and I’ve never been to Praia da Luz. I cannot even drive’”
But still his picture is in the paper in connection with a story about a missing child. Fingers are pointed
MADELEINE in Chile. What news of that? “Yesterday, police ruled out a “Madeleine” sighting in Chile after the girl was identified as American Haylee Dreyer, six”
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE – Amazing lookalike: ‘I did not kidnap and kill her’”
Mr Agostinho looks like an artist’s impression of man whom British tourist Gail Cooper says she saw acting hanging around Praia da Luz. He is the “oddball”
Page 11: “DRIFTER MATCHES NEW MADELEINE SUSPECT”
Matches. Like in a game of snap? Snap! Snap! Snap!
“Investigators want to quiz a Portuguese drifter suspected of involvement in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. Detectives working for the youngster’s parents are to question Joaquim Agostinho, 42, in the resort of Altura”
Does he have to speak with the McCanns detectives?
“Mr Agostinho, who lives in Altura, said yesterday: ‘I did not kill Madeleine and I’ve never been to Praia da Luz. I cannot even drive.’ Altura is close to the Spanish border and detectives from Metodo 3 – the agency working for the McCanns – were last night travelling there from their headquarters in Barcelona”
Again, does he have to speak with private detectives?
THE SUN: “McCANN COPS QUIZ SUSPECT LOOKALIKE”
“Detectives are to quiz a drifter who looks uncannily like a mystery suspect in Maddie McCann’s disappearance. Joaquim Agostinho, 42, denies he is the creepy man depicted in a sketch issued by parents Kate and Gerry McCann
“But Metodo 3, the Spanish private investigators hired by the McCanns, are taking the possibility seriously”
Is Metodo 3 now a police force?
A source close to Metodo 3 says: “We are going to be talking to this man as a priority, to establish if he is the one Mrs Cooper saw”
What of the McCanns?
“COPS now accept Kate and Gerry, both 39, may be innocent in Maddie’s disappearance, it has emerged. They have so far clung to just one theory — that Maddie was accidentally killed and her parents disposed of her body. Now they are taking seriously the alternative that she was snatched from the holiday apartment last May — which Kate and Gerry have always insisted must have happened”
DAILY MAIL: “Is this drifter the man in Madeleine drawing?”
Mr Agostinho says no. He delivers newspapers for a living. He says he is innocent
Metodo 3 are looking to speak with him
DAILY STAR: “MADDIE: THREE MEN RULED OUT – McCanns’ new hopes shattered”
It’s not Joaquim Jose Marques – police have ruled him out; and the Star was so certain
It’s not the girl in Chile – she’s a girl on holiday with her family
It’s not Joaquim Agostinho – he says it’s not him
METRO: “Twins play ‘find Maddie’”
“Leading world sex crimes expert Ray Wyre” has met with Kate and Gerry McCann
He sees the McCanns’ twins children. Wyre tells the paper: “They said they were going to go and find the monster that took Maddie. Then they dashed off to play the game. It’s a sad story, but it is healthy that Madeleine remains a real presence in their lives”
“A spokesman for the McCanns denied the story”
Madeleine McCann: No news is still news

You may be interested in this heartbreaking Radio 4 File on 4 programme about protection in the UK in child death abuse-linked cases. I think it provides statistics on these deaths (usually at the hands of those who should be most trusted). Problems in the recruitment/retention of social workers is part of the problem. Britain sure is great!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/file_on_4/7200217.stm
‘Child protection plans ‘failing’
Lord Laming made a damning report into Victoria Climbie’s death says he “despairs” over further deaths of vulnerable children. He told BBC Radio 4’s File On 4 children are still paying the price for organisations failing to do their duty. Lord Laming was commenting after a File On 4 investigation showed him details of three cases - in London, Newcastle and Swansea - where vulnerable children had been killed and in which there has been criticism of the role played by social services and other agencies. Lord Laming said child protection agencies still ignore the child’s interests, tending instead to focus on adults - a point he stressed in his original inquiry”.

PJ must have had a good laugh when the mccnumpties cleaned then tested the scenic when all along the evidence was in the jeep

Well that screws the PJ’s alleged ‘body in the tyrewell in the boot’ theory then!!

“look at the picture before commenting”
I did. And the field of view of even a wide angle lens is only of the order of 60 degrees or so. So, I’d love to know how it coould show the wall to either side.
Oh, and note what’s on the left side of the picture - what looks like a built in wardrobe, which routinely have shelves, of course….
“and the panorama programme showed the room from the doorway ”
Except, of course, the Panorama programme didn’t have access to the McCann’s flat - only to one “similar in layout”, as it was described at the time.
“is that it? Just one news report in Nov?”
Oh, no. There’s plenty more than that - varying from inability to organise a search, to failure to secure the scene, and the farce with the hire car…..
I could reitereate it, but it’d (a) take a while, and (B) make a few people very unhappy….
If you want a listing, a google using “McCann Portuguese bungling” gets you over 2,600 items to be going on with. Substitute “incompetence” for bungling gets near 10,000.
But you knew that already, really…..

Blood/scent for starters. These are solid facts that are known. There are no solid facts re. abduction. So you can’t argue for abduction. Darling.

Increasingly incredulous
I too have access to such data, probably better access than you do. I dont need to use the public internet as you no doubt do.
I am also quite formidable as a data analyst and you will find it very difficult to ’spin’ data at me (it would waste our time!) and the comparisons would be complex (due to time periods, population fluctuations, ethnicity etc).
Glad you agreee that this is not an issue of human rights between the UK and Portugal (I had mistakenly thought that was the point you were making!).
How about we focus on the real issue, the fundamental cause of the McCann case? I’m sure you are more concerned about the risk of copy cat scenarios and the consequent risk to children and the risk of precedents being set than it apparent in your posts. You seem to be getting a bit side tracked!
So, the fundamental question, was abduction possible and if so, how?

I’m sure someone posted how to do it?

Garth, what I’m waiting for is the claim that it’s McCann campaign spin.
Of course, if it is, the campaign’s even better than you’d think. If that were the case, they’d persuaded a Portuguese state body to give a quote direct to 24 Horas, then persuaded 24 Horas to drop for a day their usual anti-McCann line in order to print it, only after which it was picked up by the British press.
———————————
Absolutely. Suits the antis cause
January 28th, 2008 at 5:11 pm
Nobody is suggesting the PJ have all the evidence they need to (safely) charge the McCanns. What has been claimed is that they have a pretty good idea of what has happened, and are in the process (yes, still) of gathering evidence.
They are willing to consider all avenues. If any evidence arises which suggests there could have been an abduction, they will follow that up as keenly as if it were evidence against the McCanns. The PJ couldn’t really give a flying **ck whether the McCanns are guilty or not - if they are guilty, then hopefully they will be proven so, and if they are not guilty, hopefully some alternative scenario will be proven, so the real culprits face the music.
Either way the case gets closed, and that’s what the PJ really want - proper closure, not giving up, or pandering to the McCanns’ spinning machine, but finding out and proving what really happened.

601 Nosey Cow according to this website
http://www.pact-online.org/html/poster_campaigns.html
In the UK alone, over 100,000 children go missing every year. These children do not all return home safely. All face serious risks while they are away, and their disappearance causes great anguish to the families they leave behind.
That is 273 missing children a day - not sure about ages

And my rebuttal (post 447 of http://www.anorak.co.uk/madeleine-mccann/179785.html?cp=all ) of your arguments (post 1234 same URL link as above, except substitute 177323) you gave Daniella AGAINST Madeleine’s disappearance being an abduction?
Remember, I insisted I was going to strictly limit myself to the issues raised in that post. I still stand by that limitation. My aim was to show the weakness, as I see it, of the arguments used by those who say (and say—it would appear—with ABSOLUTE to the point of INTOLERANT dogmatism) that it was not an abduction. I took one of those arguments, yours (sorry, Ian
), and thoroughly researched it. I found it to be FULL OF HOOOOOOOOOLES.
It took me a BLOODY LONG TIME to do that!!! I’m not going to be tempted onto other territory, simply for reasons of constraint of time. (This blog site really does suck one in, doesn’t it? That can be a killer!) I’ve just got to be really strict with myself.
However, I AM prepared to debate this. But please, please, please e-mail me *. I won’t be able to keep scouring the Anorak blog site (Don’t worry, I’m honestly not a Clarrie spy from Belgium
). I will however reply as frequently as is feasible, and certainly post all my responses on this site.
Btw changing the subject somewhat, may I ask you again, do you ever pass by this part of the world?? I make excellent and unforgettable coffee.
Keith.
—————–
* You may have your reasons for not wanting to e-mail me. They may even be justified. But it will unfortunately make communication difficult if not well-nigh impossible for me. Sorry!
Another suggestion: maybe someone else on this blog site can e-mail Ian’s posts on to me ??? Sorry, just an idea…
enail adress edited out , we strongly urge posters NOT to give out personal info , this is an open site and we cannot guarantee confidentiality.
