Does he have to speak with the McCanns detectives?

Thats your view, your perception of reality is different to mine.
They did flee - but sent out conflicting messages - I remember it very well, as I said. Now they are too afraid to go back, despite their significant resources and legal team.
If they really only cared about finding Maddie, they could easily have removed all the doubt by clearly unambiguously and openly presenting their case directly to the new Police detective when he took over. They could have done this in Portugal in the full glare of the media, so why didnt they?
Why have they allowed this to drag on and why would loving adoring perfect parents not sacrifice anything to find their child - unless they were sure that it made no difference to Maddie.

Not really. If Sherlock Holmes holds his looking glass towards a certain location, he might be biased as to what he expects to see at this very moment. But if he doesn’t find what he expects to find despite using his investigation tool, he will dismiss his hypothesis.
Nobody has ever officially or even inofficially claimed that the dogs have established beyond reasonable doubt that the child is dead. Even the unnamed sources only suggest that the police might regard this hypothesis as more likely than others.

Gerry McCann claimed that the dogs were directed. You said this was not true as he was not there. But he did claim they were directed and I accept that he didnt need to be there. You challenged that.
