Madeleine McCann: Four, Three Men, DNAboost And Risk
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY STAR: “Cops slam pics of Maddie suspects – Innocent people are put at ‘risk’”
“Four” people who look like the drawings inspired by holidaymaker Gail Cooper have now been questioned by police
So says the Star. Although on closer inspection Jose Marques plus Joaquim Agostinho plus a Portuguese builder in Gibraltar makes three, not four
Celebrity criminologist Francisco Moita Flores says: “It is manipulation and propaganda.” No, not the Star’s reporting, rather the sketches
DAILY MAIL: “Fourth man questioned in Maddie e-fit probe”
When is an e-fit a drawing? Compare and contrast
The Mail sees the Portuguese builder questioned and then freed. “At least” three other men have been questioned
THE SUN: “SUPER DNA ‘WILL CLEAR McCANNS – They welcome new-style forensic tests”
A tiny sample is, reportedly, found in the McCanns’ Renault Scenic hire car. How did it get there? From her clothes, say the McCanns. “Another theory was that Maddie’s younger brother and sister may have similar DNA,” says the Sun
And there’s a new test. It’s called DNAboost. DNAboost “can separate or ‘clarify’ profiles and unravel tiny samples”
With DNAboost what you thought had gone comes back with a bang!
DAILY MIRROR (online): “McCann pics fury”
Always the “fury”
Police in Portugal “claim Kate and Gerry McCann are hindering the probe into missing Madeleine by releasing sketches of the possible kidnapper.
One detective says the drawings were too vague and could “identify dozens or hundreds of people”
“But McCann spokesman Clarence Mitchell hinted more sketches could be on the way ‘if we get any more information’”
THE INDEPENDENT: “Alastair Campbell: The Cudlipp Lecture”
“In an era of more pages, more space, more access, more talk, there is less said and done that is truly memorable. Even in Dacre’s apologia he could only draw on Stephen Lawrence – again - as the story where he felt the Mail made an impact and did some good. Similarly, in his Mactaggart Lecture Jeremy Paxman said the BBC constantly pointed to Planet Earth as evidence of good TV combining with good ratings, but did so precisely because it is a rarity. And with every front page screaming headline that doesn’t quite deliver the big story, every exclusive that isn’t, every whooshing breaking news that isn’t really breaking news at all, every new twist in the McCann case that isn’t a new twist at all, the public gets a little wiser every time”
We recognise the spin, says Mr Campbell – “Media spin to fill media space.” And we might even recognise the irony…
Madeleine McCann: A media feeding frenzy

An earlier post by Maria ( i think )
I am in no position to judge how well or badly the police have conducted this investigaion because I know only what is reported in the media. I travel widely and I hate xenophobia and this bland assumption that a foreign police force would not do things properly. The PJ have used the FSS in Britain to do the analysis of forensic evidence. The Birmingham lab is reckoned to be one of the best in Europe.
However, one thing is certain.
If the police officers in charge of this case allowed the McCanns, OR any of their friends, to remove Madeleine, dead or alive, in a car hired by them 25 days after her disappearance, they really are guilty of the most appalling negligence and are not fit to continue the investigation. Parents, or other close family members and friends, are rightly always the first suspects in a case of a disappearing child and there should have been no opportunity for the McCanns, or any of the people around them, to do what the police seem to be saying was actually done. They should have been under constant surveillance whilst at the same time, thorough searches for Madeleine, dead or alive, should have continued.
Whatever really happened, this particular theory still seems to me to be very unlikely, as well as “repulsive”, as Brian Kennedy, Kate’s uncle, said the other day.
Calling for more urgent action at the time of Madeleine’s disappearance, as the McCanns repeatedly did, also does not fit with the theory that they hid her body on the night of 3rd May. Of course that theory should have been fully investigated at the time; one would have assumed it had been! If that theory is correct, they did an astounding job in a very short time, appearing totally normal (perhaps showered and changed as they probably normally were for the evening????) at the tapas bar shortly after killing their child (whom everyone says they adored), hiding her body in a place not discovered by the police in the weeks following and planning to call for a thorough search later that evening.
Admittedly, the publicity the family and friends were calling for had as its focus the search for Madeleine ALIVE, on the assumption that she had been abducted, BUT the Mccanns must surely have known that pressing constantly for publicity and “leaving no stone unturned” would also lead to more thorough searches for a body as well. They are also sufficiently intelligent to know that they would naturally be suspects (in the ordinary sense of that word, not the technical “arguido” sense) and that the more thorough the investigation became, the more likely it would be that attention would centre on them. If they had given up and simply gone home after a few weeks and not continued with their high-profile campaign, it is possible that things would have died down. After all, searches with dogs etc, had not discovered a body; they would surely have felt safer at home and letting things slow down.
But it was the McCanns themselves who insisted that things did NOT die down. Obviously, they have known from the start that Madeleine could be dead. They have insisted that she is alive in order to maintain a high-profile search in case she is still alive. I would have done the same in their position. I would never have given up hope.

Morning all!
367 Lisa -
I absolutely agree with you there …. I would find it impossible to do anything other than stick close to ‘home’ with my other children if was me. I would also not be able to speak about it to strangers or on the media without breaking down. After my brother died in an terrible accident (we were both grown-up by then) I could not speak about him without weeping for many months after. But I am an emotional person …. KM obviously has better control of her feelings than I would have in similar circumstances.
On another track …. have you sleuths seen the thread on 3Arguidos about GM, businessman John Geraghty and the church in PDL? Worth a read if you haven’t.

could the Mccanns have Madeleine in hiding some place? Just seems odd that Mr Marco would have made a statement stating that they knew where Madeleine was the next day?

Blimey, has all gone quite. No takers? Try this…………
KATE and Gerry McCann are the subjects of a vile whispering campaign, which has led to them suffering a daily torrent of smears.
As they still try to come to terms with the loss of four-year-old Madeleine they continually face new accusations, including that they were responsible for her death.
And despite the couple’s swift, strenuous and increasingly exasperated denials to every one of the allegations, they have failed to dampen the appetite of the Portuguese media for new smears. The lies include:
Kate’s guilt
Portuguese TV reporter San¬dra Felguiras is said to have implied during one live broadcast recently that Mrs McCann could have murdered her daughter. A source close to the couple’s family described the comments as “outrageous”.
Drugging their children
The McCanns, both doctors, have been accused of “drugging” their children to make them sleep so they could go out. The claim came from unnamed police sources who doubted Madeleine’s two-year-old twin brother and sister could have slept through her abduction. Last week magazine Tal&Qual suggested they accidentally killed her with an overdose. The couple say they have never used sedatives on their children and never would.
Wife-swapping holidays
A retired detective claimed, without foundation on a TV programme, that Kate and Gerry were “swingers” who enjoyed wife-swapping with the friends who were their dinner party companions. Despite a lack of evidence, the claim was picked up by local newspapers.
Excessive drinking
Rumours that the couple and their friends were drunk when they should have been looking after their children began among holidaymakers in Praia da Luz and were picked up by local journalists. The McCanns deny they drank on May 3, when Madeleine went missing.
Children left to cry
Neighbours at the Ocean Club are said to have told of the McCanns leaving their children while they went out to enjoy themselves, including once in a town 15 minutes’ drive away. Kate and Gerry insist they ate every night at a restaurant less than a minute from the flat.
Killed in the apartment
Various newspapers and television stations have discounted the abduction theory, and claim Madeleine died in the apartment, through the negligence of her parents or murder. Journalists who made the claim cannot explain why detectives might think this.
A body in the hire car
Other newspapers have reported the existence of forensic evidence that Madeleine’s body had been in the family’s rental car. This claim re-emerged at the weekend with reports that the scent of a corpse had been discovered by a sniffer dog on the hire car’s key. The couple rented the car five weeks after their daughter disappeared.
Emergency call delay
Portuguese newspaper Diario de Noticias cited an unnamed holiday resort worker who falsely claimed the McCanns opted to contact the media and a priest before police. The McCanns issued a denial to a baseless story.
Intercepted phone calls and emails
Diario de Noticias also said police had “intercepted” communications between the McCanns and their friends which were said to provide “decisive proof” that Madeleine was not kidnapped. The McCanns handed police all their phone and computer records soon after the crime.
Friends under suspicion
The newspaper 24 Horas claimed members of the holiday party were “under surveillance” in Britain as part of the investigation. This is strenuously denied by British and Portuguese police.
Forged birth certificate
Local media has even claimed Gerry was not Madeleine’s real father and had used his position as a doctor to alter details on her birth certificate illegally. This is said to have caused the couple particular hurt because all three of their children were conceived by IVF.

Well I heard of the outcome of the meeting that was held in Harlow but I thought it only right and proper that Tony Bennett should post it!
Well shortly after he DID although I WAS expecting a bit more “razamataz” but I guess thats just the way he gets things done! I think it is important that something happens to move this case foward.
I copied it below.

We agreed at our meeting in Harlow yesterday to form The Madeleine Foundation - a democratic membership organisation open to anyone who supports our aims - and made several decisions relating to its aims and initial actions. We believe that the name Madeleine should live on forever and that her main message to this genration and to future generations of parents should be: “Never leave young children on their own”. May we all care for and love the children we bring into the world.
Initial actions of The Madeleine Foundation will include writing formal letters to:
1) The McCanns’ Solicitors, asking their clients to tell the PJ the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth about Madeleine’s disappearance
2) Bates, Wells and Braithwaite, Solicitors to the Find Madeleine Fund Trust, raising several serious concerns about the operation of this private trust
3) The General Medical Council, raising the question of whether either of the McCanns is fit to practice as Doctors, especially having regard to their status as criminal suspects, and
4) Home Secretray Jacqui Smith, urging her to give maximum help to the PJ in their efforts to solve this suspicious death.

A private detective being paid by Kate and Gerry McCann to find their daughter has said he could have Madeleine back home with her family for Christmas.
Mr Marco, who heads up a 40-strong team, vowed to find the missing girl within five months.
He said: “We have proof of her movements after her kidnap and we know she was alive the day after her disappearance.
He also dismissed allegations that the McCanns could have been involved in Madeleine’s disappearance, saying people only had to spend five minutes with them to know they were innocent.
**How could he say this? That Madeleine would be home for Christmas? That he would find her in 5 months? Well Christmas has passed and Madeleine did not come home. The other thing i find odd in this statement is : “We have proof of her movements after her kidnap and we know she was alive the day after her disappearance.
**They have proof? Does this mean the Mccanns know where Madeleine was the day AFTER she disappeared?
I see there is new talk about DNA, last I read they had DNA from the car and behind a couch in the Mccanns rented apartment that belonged to Madeleine.
IMO The Mccanns know more than they are saying and i think they should just come clean.

Maybe he doesn’t want to. Why should he, he’s just a mouth piece for GM. He’s not an arguido, he hasn’t lost a child, he’s being paid. And I think he’s doing a good job in very difficult circumstances. Why not let GM prepare his own noose.
I think CN’s a bit of a plonker personally but he’s coming up with the goods. Not the ones we agree with but the one’s that counterbalance the negative fangs of the media.
What exactly do people want? If CM voiced his real opinion, left them high and dry, if he wasn’t there, can you imagine the pirranhas circling because I can. Then what, no conviction.
Sorry to labour the point but some of you must get it.
CM an old fashioned media dick, but I think GM and KM are bigger dicks, personally I’m glad there is someone to reign them in because if CM wasn’t there then GM and KM would be dangerous, they have no problem with claimimg PJ conspiracy, set up, the press would lap it up.
CM is talking gerry and kates language but in a more diplomatic way, he’s stopped critisizing the PJ. Met3 would happen with or without CM.
Anyway I do have to go awol again.

Hi to all - I’ve been reading for ages and enjoying the debate
Just one little consideration about K’s alledged jogging in the immediate few days after Maddie’s disappearance. It’s not that fact that she felt she needed to destress or whatever by jogging… it’s the fact that she didn’t feel the need to stay at home to be at hand in case Maddie was found.
I mean, even if the girl hadn’t suffered any terrible damage, she would certainly want her mother instantly. SInce I have 3 kids myself, I just can’t wrap my head around the fact that a mother would feel the absolute need to stay put at home.
Makes me think she was sure Maddie would not be back (either that or she is - alledgely - a very unfeeling, indifferent and unloving mother)

Good idea.
There must be plenty of money left, contrary to what we are being told. That money yields a comfortable little income if properly managed.
