Madeleine McCann: Four, Three Men, DNAboost And Risk
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY STAR: “Cops slam pics of Maddie suspects – Innocent people are put at ‘risk’”
“Four” people who look like the drawings inspired by holidaymaker Gail Cooper have now been questioned by police
So says the Star. Although on closer inspection Jose Marques plus Joaquim Agostinho plus a Portuguese builder in Gibraltar makes three, not four
Celebrity criminologist Francisco Moita Flores says: “It is manipulation and propaganda.” No, not the Star’s reporting, rather the sketches
DAILY MAIL: “Fourth man questioned in Maddie e-fit probe”
When is an e-fit a drawing? Compare and contrast
The Mail sees the Portuguese builder questioned and then freed. “At least” three other men have been questioned
THE SUN: “SUPER DNA ‘WILL CLEAR McCANNS – They welcome new-style forensic tests”
A tiny sample is, reportedly, found in the McCanns’ Renault Scenic hire car. How did it get there? From her clothes, say the McCanns. “Another theory was that Maddie’s younger brother and sister may have similar DNA,” says the Sun
And there’s a new test. It’s called DNAboost. DNAboost “can separate or ‘clarify’ profiles and unravel tiny samples”
With DNAboost what you thought had gone comes back with a bang!
DAILY MIRROR (online): “McCann pics fury”
Always the “fury”
Police in Portugal “claim Kate and Gerry McCann are hindering the probe into missing Madeleine by releasing sketches of the possible kidnapper.
One detective says the drawings were too vague and could “identify dozens or hundreds of people”
“But McCann spokesman Clarence Mitchell hinted more sketches could be on the way ‘if we get any more information’”
THE INDEPENDENT: “Alastair Campbell: The Cudlipp Lecture”
“In an era of more pages, more space, more access, more talk, there is less said and done that is truly memorable. Even in Dacre’s apologia he could only draw on Stephen Lawrence – again - as the story where he felt the Mail made an impact and did some good. Similarly, in his Mactaggart Lecture Jeremy Paxman said the BBC constantly pointed to Planet Earth as evidence of good TV combining with good ratings, but did so precisely because it is a rarity. And with every front page screaming headline that doesn’t quite deliver the big story, every exclusive that isn’t, every whooshing breaking news that isn’t really breaking news at all, every new twist in the McCann case that isn’t a new twist at all, the public gets a little wiser every time”
We recognise the spin, says Mr Campbell – “Media spin to fill media space.” And we might even recognise the irony…

It’s as if some Monty Python type character in the Government keeps handing the letters back to the Portugese police asking for the correct stamps and signatures!

Madeleine: Portuguese police accuse Home Secretary Jacqui Smith of stalling investigation
Daily mail
Home Secretary Jacqui Smith was yesterday accused of stalling the Madeleine McCann investigation.
Portuguese police said the nine-month case had reached “a stalemate” because the Home Office had failed to respond to a list of demands sent almost a month ago.
Investigators sent a formal letter of appeal to Whitehall on January 7, asking that the seven friends who dined with Kate and Gerry McCann on the night of May 3 should face fresh police interrogations.
Three weeks have passed and the Home Office has yet to make any response to the letter, the Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manha reported.
British police cannot carry out the interviews on behalf of their Portuguese counterparts until the request has been rubber-stamped by the Home Secretary.
And Portuguese police claim they cannot progress with their investigation until the interrogations are carried out.
A source said the latest delay had stalled the entire case, adding: “It is very strange that we have heard nothing.
“There seems to be no sense of urgency on their part. But we cannot proceed until these interrogations have been carried out. It is a stalemate.”
The police and the public prosecutor were notified three weeks ago that the letters had been delivered to the Home Office, the newspaper said.
Chief Insp Paulo Rebelo and his police team spent four months preparing the formal legal documents, which set out the requests for the so-called Tapas Seven to be re-interviewed and a list of questions for them to face.
The letter also listed a number of personal items the Portuguese police want seized from the McCanns, including Mrs McCann’s diary, Mr McCann’s personal laptop and possibly Madeleine’s favourite Cuddle Cat toy.
Portuguese police want to be present when the Tapas Seven are questioned, and believe they have identified a series of contradictions and inconsistencies in their witness statements about the events of May 3.
They are expected to call for the McCanns to face another round of interviews after their friends have been re-interrogated.
The couple, who remain official suspects in the case, have said they are willing to be questioned again but have always insisted they were not involved in their daughter’s disappearance.
A friend, who asked not to be named, said: “It’s a bit rich that the Portuguese police are complaining about speed, almost nine months after Madeleine disappeared.”
A Home Office spokesman refused to confirm if it had received the letters of appeal from the Portuguese police.
McCann family spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “For some months now we have actively offered to assist this process, to get it underway as soon as possible.
“Kate and Gerry’s friends are keen that it should happen soon and want any bureaucracy - whether it’s in Portugal or England - to be cleared quickly.
“Any inconsistencies the police believe exist in their evidence can be cleared up very quickly and then we hope Kate and Gerry’s names will be cleared.
“As far as we are concerned this cannot happen soon enough.”

When you told us we would have some breaking news I thought it would be directly to
do with Madeleine……….new evidence etc.
Better if he had used his knowledge of Parliament to go direct to the source
and challenge Jacqui Smith re the This is London article. I really believe the Press is now
getting fed up with all this nonsense and are turning against the McCanns.

Hi Val,
Apparently the Portuguese police have “masses” of evidence, maybe some of this will be presented in further questioning, but that phase appears to have stalled.
The this is London article wasn’t out when Tony was formulating his plans, if you click on his name which is in blue you can get his email address and maybe you could put your thoughts to him ?
If I understand it correctly “THE Madeleine Foundation” will be open to members, so people like you and I will be able to join, if this is the case I anticipate it will “snowball” with all the pro “madeleine” supporters out there.
I believe it will be a lasting legacy, a major tribute to her!
Don’t get me wrong I would love for Madeleine to come walking back fit and well, but I do consider this to be unlikely, unfortunately.

Apparently JS used to be a School Teacher, had no experience in any Cabinet position
yet was elevated to one of the most prominent, problem ridden inefficient Departments
in the Government. Shows the dearth of talent in GB”s appointments…………apparently
he is a control freak so will have his hand in every decision. What makes my blood boil
is the reason we are heading for recession is the Banks allowing people to borrow much more
than they could ever hope to repay, the FSA not monitoring the situation, and Joe Bloggs
having to pay for the Northern Rock debacle.
I”m getting down from my Orang Box now and will say Goodnight, take care.

When you told us we would have some breaking news I thought it would be directly to
do with Madeleine……….new evidence etc.
Whilst Tony Bennet has done much to promote her cause, his latest plan will not achieve
much I fear. Better if he had used his knowledge of Parliament to go direct to the source

getting fed up with all this nonsense and are turning against the McCanns.

Been reading this stuff for weeks and never offered any input. I won’t invite any of you over cos my girlfriend would be really pissed off at that. She thinks that me even being interested in this case is an unhealthy obsession!
I haven’t ever seen a case like this before.
You know that feeling, why do the media only present the McConn spin?
Why are theinconsistences suppressed?
The forums shut down and posted history deleted?
WELL! Maybe the suspected Orwellian Thought Police (OTP) have method in their megalomania. Maybe they realise that K&G can say that they cannot possibly get a fair trial after all the ‘neg pub’ they have recieved in Blighty. Maybe Blighty’s press have been told to shut the f**k right up about this and indulge the public in MAF’s Diana fantasy until they can can get their stingers out on the way to the doc’s hospital.
Something might be brewing, don’t give Team McC any fuel that could be interpreted as getting in the way of a fair trial. Should that ever happen, should there ever be 2 moons in our immediate vicinity.

Thanks for info, read it and posted a comment. Recently, MCinstrey of the Daily Express
wrote a scathing attack on Jacqui Smith and I wonder if the “antimcCanns” all sent e-mails to him about our concern re Government interference he would raise the question in his
Reporting. Failing that, we could e-mail Jacqui Smith direct., demanding a response.
