Madeleine McCann: Four, Three Men, DNAboost And Risk
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY STAR: “Cops slam pics of Maddie suspects – Innocent people are put at ‘risk’”
“Four” people who look like the drawings inspired by holidaymaker Gail Cooper have now been questioned by police
So says the Star. Although on closer inspection Jose Marques plus Joaquim Agostinho plus a Portuguese builder in Gibraltar makes three, not four
Celebrity criminologist Francisco Moita Flores says: “It is manipulation and propaganda.” No, not the Star’s reporting, rather the sketches
DAILY MAIL: “Fourth man questioned in Maddie e-fit probe”
When is an e-fit a drawing? Compare and contrast
The Mail sees the Portuguese builder questioned and then freed. “At least” three other men have been questioned
THE SUN: “SUPER DNA ‘WILL CLEAR McCANNS – They welcome new-style forensic tests”
A tiny sample is, reportedly, found in the McCanns’ Renault Scenic hire car. How did it get there? From her clothes, say the McCanns. “Another theory was that Maddie’s younger brother and sister may have similar DNA,” says the Sun
And there’s a new test. It’s called DNAboost. DNAboost “can separate or ‘clarify’ profiles and unravel tiny samples”
With DNAboost what you thought had gone comes back with a bang!
DAILY MIRROR (online): “McCann pics fury”
Always the “fury”
Police in Portugal “claim Kate and Gerry McCann are hindering the probe into missing Madeleine by releasing sketches of the possible kidnapper.
One detective says the drawings were too vague and could “identify dozens or hundreds of people”
“But McCann spokesman Clarence Mitchell hinted more sketches could be on the way ‘if we get any more information’”
THE INDEPENDENT: “Alastair Campbell: The Cudlipp Lecture”
“In an era of more pages, more space, more access, more talk, there is less said and done that is truly memorable. Even in Dacre’s apologia he could only draw on Stephen Lawrence – again - as the story where he felt the Mail made an impact and did some good. Similarly, in his Mactaggart Lecture Jeremy Paxman said the BBC constantly pointed to Planet Earth as evidence of good TV combining with good ratings, but did so precisely because it is a rarity. And with every front page screaming headline that doesn’t quite deliver the big story, every exclusive that isn’t, every whooshing breaking news that isn’t really breaking news at all, every new twist in the McCann case that isn’t a new twist at all, the public gets a little wiser every time”
We recognise the spin, says Mr Campbell – “Media spin to fill media space.” And we might even recognise the irony…
Madeleine McCann: A media feeding frenzy

Thanks,
Ok then you can be first to bat
Have heard about the server at 3Arg’s, it is good to let people know about that as well because a lot of people will think the site has gone down Permanently.

With regard to the probablity of all the witnesses being associates of the McConns…
From memory, Ian Fleming’s Goldfinger starts with something like:
“The first time is hapenstance, the second time is coincidence and the third time is enemy action”

Grande Finale, perhaps everyone in the UK should start asking the question of a certain MP who is supposed to give the answer?
I have done it myself about a week 1/2 ago (and I’m not from the UK), very politely worded letter …. it was read at least … but not even the courtesy of an acknowledgement of my polite enquiry …. grrrrr

Hiya,
I have heard that the Mirror forum was shut down because a lot of the members were asking questions about the Rogatory letters being sent from Portugal and were lobbying MP’s etc.
An official response was apparently given in that no assistance had been requested BUT that wasn’t the question.
It apears that the rogatory letters were sent early in January it was supposed to take 10 days but up to date there has seemingly been NO official acknowledgement……..(No surprise there then!)
Do you think we can all start informing as many people as possible of this ? because it certainly won’t be in the UK daily’s!!!!
Not the best source of info below but it gives the basics, the remaining information can be found in a Portuguese paper Correiodamanha.

“Mrs Cooper, who was staying with her husband Jonathan in a villa close to the apartment later hired by the McCanns, described seeing an olive-skinned man with collar-length scraggly hair acting suspiciously on a number of occasions.”
This appears almost at the bottom of this link from This is London:

“Tracking him down.”
It is a long way from Barcelona to PDJ. The two places are about as far apart as it is possible to get on the Iberian peninsular. A good 1200 km as the fly crows.
Which makes it so obvious why M3 were chosen in the first place. Doesn’t it? They don’t even speak the same language.

How many pigs get beheaded?
January 29th, 2008 at 12:31 pm
It just goes to show - be wary of charity collectors:
“…… an unemployed charity worker, intended to seize and behead the unnamed Muslim serviceman “like a pig”, Leicester Crown Court was told……”

Brandon - especially as it was the New of the World that first published his picture late on Saturday night. The same NOTW that had worked so closely with the Mccanns and their detectives to produce Mr Sketchy in the first place.

“tracking him down”
January 29th, 2008 at 12:21 pm
Brandon - I had to laugh yesterday when I read that M3 were tracking him down to talk to him. The same chappie that had given an impromptu press conference with all the tabloids in a bar with his friends!!
January 29th, 2008 at 12:20 pm
How many suspects will it take?
5, 10, 100, 1000???
January 29th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
Brandon - again sufficient doubt to keep the worldwide manhunt going.

Brandon - yep - “…..“However, his facial appearance was slightly different. His hair was a bit shorter and he did not have a heavy moustache. He had a goatee beard. His clothes were similar to that of the photofit and he was a bit dishevelled. He spoke good English with a heavy accent.”
She added: “He carried a clipboard. He showed me ID which was attached to the clipboard, but told me not to look too closely as ‘God did not give him a beautiful face’….”

I had read about the same idea in “el esplendor de la forma”. They did it with probabilities. They thought that the number of media people staying there at the time was well above probability laws. Not going easily for the conspiracy theories -which I think work better in the spy novels than in real life-, I remember having thought : well, if one person from the media likes PdL, and passed the word around, and said how nice it was at that time of the year, since some media people like to remain between themselves in a closed little circle, they all flocked there.
It seems now that it is a bit more complicated than I had thought, and that many people in the story, among which some key witnesses, are related, at least professionnally.
Isn’t it strange how witnesses come up now after so many months, and are given so much credit by the press?
January 29th, 2008 at 12:03 pm
I noticed that too Brandon - she left on 4 Aug. This guy must have been round collecting for charity for a long time.
