Burnley’s Panopticon Singing Ringing Tree
PANOPTICON n. Structure, space or device providing a comprehensive or panoramic view.
Panopticons is a unique and ambitious arts and regeneration project at the heart
of the East Lancashire Regional Park initiative, led by the Lancashire Economic Partnership. The project was set up to erect a series of 21st-century landmarks,
or Panopticons, across East Lancashire as symbols of the renaissance of the area. Four of these iconic structures are now in place.
Panopticons is funded by the Northwest Regional Development Agency, the Lancashire Economic Partnership, the Northern Way, Arts Council England North West and Lancashire County Council.

It’s a bus shelter?

If you think this is ’strange but true’ you need to see the earlier chapter in the ‘PanoptiCON Money-Wasting Project’ which is a huge concrete egg shaped bus shelter with holes in it, stuck in the car park of one of our more lovely beauty spots with a name plate calling it ‘The Atom’. I don’t think it’s a true representation of an atom, but it would look better if it was lifesize.
