DIEGO Maradona is on the front page of the Sun.
“22 YEARS AFTER THAT INFAMOUS HAND OF GOD GOAL, FINALLY.. Maradona says sorry”.
Well, not sorry, not exactly. In fact, you could say he doesn’t say sorry for scoring a goal with his hand against England at the 1986 World Cup Finals.
Says Maradona: “If I could apologise and go back and change history I would go. But the goal is still a goal, Argentina became world champions and I was the best player in the world.”
If he could says sorry, he would. But he can’t just now…

If the ref says it’s a goal it’s a goal, if it really was or not. That’s football.
So, stop apologizing Diego you got away with one!
And you probably were the best player in the world at the time, nothing to be ashamed of.
All this apologizing these days is ridiculous, especially when it’s for historical events that the apologizer probably had nothing to do with, if he was even alive then.
My mothers family are of Sicilian origin, does that mean I have to apologize for the mafia?
If I knew any mafia people I’d send them over to Maradonas house…. score against us with your hand eh?

You’ve got to love the passive-aggressive arrogance of expecting apologies all the time.
The same when Lineker went over there, the sheer cheek of it, going over there and expecting him to apologise.
As for the Sun, which is loth to call the Germans “Jerry” for the world cup while the Argies are just Argies, and cheating ones at that, so will the Sun apologise for it’s own 22 years of racism?
That’s the Sun for you as the epitopme of fair play and Britishness.
Anyway, remarkably simliar to those Burma Star chaps that always want an apology whenever some unfortunate Japanese dignitary makes the mistake of coming over here, even though Japan has apologised to Burma Star twice and given compenstaion, unlike for say, the rape of Nanjing or with the Phillipino comfort women, or those times that they did human experimentaion, but it was only on fellow Asiatics, so that’s alright then.
That’s fair play, that is.
