Madeleine McCann: Alipio Ribeiro’s Thinks, Clarence Mitchell Knows And A Birthday
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY STAR ON SUNDAY: “MADDIE COPS SAYS SORRY – Police ‘too quick’ “to blame parents”
“A top policeman has sensationally admitted that making Gerry and Kate McCann suspects over their daughter Maddie’s disappearance was too ‘hasty’. Alipio Ribeiro, boss of the Portuguese department in charge of the investigation, dropped his bombshell in a radio interview”
Says Clarence Mitchell, the McCanns spokesman: “Now that the national director of the Policia Judiciaria apparently acknowledges that they should never have been made arguidos, it follows there is no case for them to answer.”
SUNDAY EXPRESS: “POLICE ‘TOO HASTY’ OVER MCCANNS”
“As the couple bravely celebrated the third birthday of their twins, Sean and Amelie, one of Portugal’s most senior detectives admitted that making them suspects had been a “hasty” mistake”
Did Mr Alipio Ribeiro say “mistake” in his radio interview?
Says the paper: “The couple, both 39, said the official’s comments were tantamount to an admission that Portuguese detectives had bungled by centring their investigation on them.”
Says Mr Ribeiro to Portugal’s Radio Renascenca, owned by the Catholic Church:
“At this moment in time and speaking with the experience I have of Portugal’s Public Prosecution Service and the constitution of arguidos, I think there perhaps should have been another assessment before the McCanns were made official suspects.
“I don’t have any doubt about that. The national director of the Policia Judiciaria doesn’t give out orders on the constitution of arguidos but there was a certain hastiness”
Says the paper: “Last night Ribeiro was under growing pressure to stand down as national director of their country’s Policia Judiciaria”. Pressure from, whom?
MAIL ON SUNDAY: “”Police chief: We were too quick to make Gerry and Kate ‘arguidos’”
Says the Mail: “Kate and Gerry McCann’s bid to clear their names over the disappearance of their daughter Madeleine has been given a massive boost after the head of Portugal’s police admitted it had been a mistake to rush into making them official suspects”
Mr McCann says: “We need a breakthrough and this looks like it could be one. It is fantastic news. We still have a long way to go but people in Portugal need to understand what has been happening and what we have been going through. We know it will take the police a long time to accept what has been happening is wrong but it is an important step towards that”
Says the McCanns’ lawyer in Portugal, Carlos Pinto de Abreu: “Many people who may have vital information have possibly not come forward as they wrongly suspected the McCanns”
What about that huge reward, and doing the right thing? People may be deterred from coming forward for fear of being named in the media and questioned by Metodo 3, the McCann’s private investigators. But let us not speculate
SUNDAY PEOPLE: “MADDIE U-TURN - EXCLUSIVE Cops admit mistake on twins’ birthday”
“Kate and Gerry McCann threw a birthday bash for their twins yesterday - as a top cop admitted it was WRONG to name them as suspects over missing Maddie”
Well, Policia Judiciaria “boss” Alipio Ribeiro, said the police acted too hasilty. “Ribeiro last night faced calls to resign over the astonishing U-turn” – although from whom, the paper does not bother to say
Say the McCanns: “The support we have had from around the world has been amazing. It’s helped maintain our strength and hope and this has helped the search for our precious Madeleine. We believe there is a very good chance she is still alive. She deserves the love and security of her family. She needs to be back home with her mummy and daddy, brother and sister”
THE GUARDIAN: “Police chief says ‘we were too hasty’ in naming McCanns as suspects”
“In an interview to be aired on Portuguese radio today, Alípio Ribeiro, the national director of the Polícia Judiciária, will concede that police may have acted too soon in making Kate and Gerry McCann formal suspects, known in Portugal as arguidos. His comments were interpreted last night by the McCanns as a tacit admission that the police were wrong to name them as being involved in the disappearance of their four-year-old daughter”

About perks : I suggested it more like a joke ; that’s what comes to mind first, especially if you are a fan of legal thrillers. But honestly, in this case I don’t believe it. It seems far fetched. I think companies mostly stay within the law nowadays. They aren’t going to jeopardise their future in a stupid way. And the law is tough. I’d rather think they try to influence the law with lobbying. It is a lawful way to get what is good for their interests. They all do it if they can. I heard people specialised in lobbying thrive in Brussels. It is a bit frightening, isn’t it?
But I can’t see what it has to do with the poor little girl disappearing.

Re your cough. There are so many herbs you could try which are freely available in your health shop. There are others which are Schedule III herbs which should only be prescribed by a professional herbalist but there are so many other herbs that I personally don’t see the need for using Schedule III ones in the first instance. But all the herbs you’ll find in your local health food or herb shop will be fine if taken in the recommended quantities. Herbal medicine has a high level of safety but you should still remember that herbs can have very strong actions so never overdo anything. Marshmallow is often very good for a dry cough and you will find this herb in many of the herbal cough mictures in the health shop. Everyone should really go to their doctor to check. For instance, you say it’s non-productive but is it tight, for instance, do you feel there’s something there to expectorate? I know it sounds a bit corny to say this, but I would always recommend people to check with their doctors, though I know sometimes the doctor doesn’t have a clue. Then try a herbal remedy if you feel it’s appropriate. Diagnosis should not be carried out by a herbalist, although some might try to diagnose, because most simply don’t have the means (or knowledge) to investigate fully. I think that you could try one or two of the proprietary herbal cough mixtures in the health shop - they are much the same as a professional herbalist will give you - and see how you go. Why not try one with marshmallow?

Does anyone think that the child at the top of this thread is actually Madeleine McCann. I don’t. There is a resemblance though. Different persona from all the pictures I’ve seen. IMO it’s a different girl with a different life.

I am not sure that I have read any authoritative report that Jane Tanner’s and Russell O’Brien’s baby was born via IVF, but the ‘Daily Behemoth’ blog, for example, has this:
QUOTE
“Russell O’Brien and Jane Tanner are two members of the McCann ‘party of eight’ who holidayed in Praia da Luz. They are married, with a child said to be ‘exactly the same age’ as Madeleine. Both Madeleine and her ‘twin’ were born via IVF treatment…and Jane Tanner is reported as having been present with Kate McCann during the birth of Madeleine in Amsterdam”.
UNQUOTE
Madeleine was born on 12 May 2003. The Tanner/O’Brien baby appears to have been born a few weeks later.
I am not sure that Jane Tanner and Russell O’Brien are married, as claimed above?

I thought a certain percentage are privately owned and managed by MW for letting.
Couldn”t the Ocean Club take issue with the McCann team on the adverse publicity
the Resost is getting.?

They will never pay as dearly as their child has, but at least some kind of public recognition of justice being done for her would be right and proper.
Now really going, night night world, from England (where many of us DO look after our children!).

2008-02-03 - 00:30:00 Searching: dam of Arade Maddie divers seeking Nuno Eugénio Promoter of the searches believe the body is here A lawyer Madeiran is paying underwater searches in the dam of Arade, in the county of Silves, since last Thursday. Marcos Aragon Correia believes that is where is the body of Madeleine McCann. For the lawyer, who yesterday once again followed the work, “this dam is the place most likely to be the girl who has got rid of the body.” The searches are being carried out by five divers Portuguese and British company’s Dive Team, Lagos. Until now, the main ‘track’ was found a strange string of five meters - formed by several pieces of belts, blinds, united among themselves with us - however delivered to the GNR of Lagos. “A rope was to seven meters deep, under the bridge that connects the tower of the dam. I think that is a very strong indication, “argued Aragon Correia. The lawyer revealed that researchers deprived of Method 3 “already know the track and see it as very credible, since it is coupled with the information that guarantees a camionista have seen Maddie be changed in a car to another, in Silves, May 5 “(two days after his disappearance of Light). Aragon recalled having received a clue that led to the dam of Arade “on May 6,” but excuse to reveal who gave him the information. “They told me that Maddie had been launched to a desert lake, with water cloudy and heavily wooded shores,” says the lawyer. “In addition, the site had particular characteristic as a beach, which fits with this place, which could identify the December 10 last. Immediately informed the PJ, who thanked but did nothing, “he adds. Aragon Correia wants to continue the searches in the morning, despite the difficulties experienced by divers, due to the “zero visibility from two meters can only use the touch.”

Sems a bit unfair, his words were taken out of context and Clarence Mitchell has totally twisted the meaning.
Has anyone got a translated transcript of the whole interview?
+++++++++++++++
I also postulated earlier that he knew exactly what he was saying and he did it because he knew exactly how Clarence would attempt to spin it.
I’d also like to believe that the PJ are about to deliver the “punch line” to Alipio Ribeiro “little joke”, though that is complete speculation on my part.

Yes I agree … but as CSN says … he is a politician and maybe this ‘political’ interference is what is making the Portuguese angry.
Anyway must get off to bed now … ’speak’ tomorrow.

I hope that as a result of the McCanns negligence, many children may be better looked after and ultimately - provided no silliness by our politicians - the McCanns will be sued for negligence.
——————————————————————————————————————-
I agree Ian, the one fact in all of this is that through the McC’s actions(their decision to leave the children alone) M is now gone. They have to be held responsible for this.

I always thought it odd how Gerry was very quick to say he was the genetic father but didnt say ‘Kate and I are the genetic parents’.
Something seems odd and there is more to this than Kate and Gerry alone - sure as eggs is eggs, in my opinion and apologising for the ‘accidental’ pun.
All the eggs from one basket? Always risky to keep all the eggs in one basket.

I posed this very same question last night. I would imagine MW will have a huge decline in
bookings this year because of all the “Creeps” prowling around the complex. I suggested MW
would have every right to sue the McCann team for scaremongering.. Saturn replied
that Bell Pottinger , he is really fixated with that Firm, would provide their own bookings
to compensate so there was no problem. What about the long term though.

JT’s daughter wasn’t born on the same day as Madeleine, I gather, but a month or so before or after.
Madeleine was born in Amsterdam, and JT was said to have been there at the time.
To support Kate, it’s been said
—————————————————————————-
I had heard the twins were born in Amsterdam when G.McC was reported to have said on some blog/diary that he was looking forward to coming home a family of five. Didn’t know M was born there also, thought she was born in Leicestershire.

I am planning to go to Portugal BECAUSE of the McCann affair, to show my support in a real way.
I’ve even been trying Portuguese products (its drawn my attention to Portugal as a country and a long time ally - I didnt realise Mozambique had a Portuguese heritage for example!).
I hope that as a result of the McCanns negligence, many children may be better looked after and ultimately - provided no silliness by our politicians - the McCanns will be sued for negligence.

Does anyone know if MW resort bookings have had any adverse effect on bookings this year?
————————————————-
I don’t know.
It’s worth bearing in mind that the Ocean Club at PDL is not a Mark Warner resort; that is its unique selling point.
Last summer was only the second season that MW had taken half of the Ocean Club, so if Madeleine’s disappearance had any significant effect on bookings it would have been easy enough for MW to pull out.
All they had to do was to say that it was an experiment which had, tragically, gone wrong, and that they were reverting to the tried and tested gated compound model of the MW resorts…

And the good ones are???? Very expensive so gotta be good! If it’s slowing down ageing or more energy, count me in. While I’m on - I do have a question, what IS good for energy (apart from stuff you get in food, which, by the time you cook it, it’s gone.) Serious question, and sorry for interrupting the debate.

Russell O’Brien and Jane Tanner live in Exeter so didn’t catch the same plane as the McCanns. I think Stevo has concluded that it is David and Fiona Payne’s daughter in the video.
Going again.
