Madeleine McCann: Alipio Ribeiro’s Thinks, Clarence Mitchell Knows And A Birthday
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY STAR ON SUNDAY: “MADDIE COPS SAYS SORRY – Police ‘too quick’ “to blame parents”
“A top policeman has sensationally admitted that making Gerry and Kate McCann suspects over their daughter Maddie’s disappearance was too ‘hasty’. Alipio Ribeiro, boss of the Portuguese department in charge of the investigation, dropped his bombshell in a radio interview”
Says Clarence Mitchell, the McCanns spokesman: “Now that the national director of the Policia Judiciaria apparently acknowledges that they should never have been made arguidos, it follows there is no case for them to answer.”
SUNDAY EXPRESS: “POLICE ‘TOO HASTY’ OVER MCCANNS”
“As the couple bravely celebrated the third birthday of their twins, Sean and Amelie, one of Portugal’s most senior detectives admitted that making them suspects had been a “hasty” mistake”
Did Mr Alipio Ribeiro say “mistake” in his radio interview?
Says the paper: “The couple, both 39, said the official’s comments were tantamount to an admission that Portuguese detectives had bungled by centring their investigation on them.”
Says Mr Ribeiro to Portugal’s Radio Renascenca, owned by the Catholic Church:
“At this moment in time and speaking with the experience I have of Portugal’s Public Prosecution Service and the constitution of arguidos, I think there perhaps should have been another assessment before the McCanns were made official suspects.
“I don’t have any doubt about that. The national director of the Policia Judiciaria doesn’t give out orders on the constitution of arguidos but there was a certain hastiness”
Says the paper: “Last night Ribeiro was under growing pressure to stand down as national director of their country’s Policia Judiciaria”. Pressure from, whom?
MAIL ON SUNDAY: “”Police chief: We were too quick to make Gerry and Kate ‘arguidos’”
Says the Mail: “Kate and Gerry McCann’s bid to clear their names over the disappearance of their daughter Madeleine has been given a massive boost after the head of Portugal’s police admitted it had been a mistake to rush into making them official suspects”
Mr McCann says: “We need a breakthrough and this looks like it could be one. It is fantastic news. We still have a long way to go but people in Portugal need to understand what has been happening and what we have been going through. We know it will take the police a long time to accept what has been happening is wrong but it is an important step towards that”
Says the McCanns’ lawyer in Portugal, Carlos Pinto de Abreu: “Many people who may have vital information have possibly not come forward as they wrongly suspected the McCanns”
What about that huge reward, and doing the right thing? People may be deterred from coming forward for fear of being named in the media and questioned by Metodo 3, the McCann’s private investigators. But let us not speculate
SUNDAY PEOPLE: “MADDIE U-TURN - EXCLUSIVE Cops admit mistake on twins’ birthday”
“Kate and Gerry McCann threw a birthday bash for their twins yesterday - as a top cop admitted it was WRONG to name them as suspects over missing Maddie”
Well, Policia Judiciaria “boss” Alipio Ribeiro, said the police acted too hasilty. “Ribeiro last night faced calls to resign over the astonishing U-turn” – although from whom, the paper does not bother to say
Say the McCanns: “The support we have had from around the world has been amazing. It’s helped maintain our strength and hope and this has helped the search for our precious Madeleine. We believe there is a very good chance she is still alive. She deserves the love and security of her family. She needs to be back home with her mummy and daddy, brother and sister”
THE GUARDIAN: “Police chief says ‘we were too hasty’ in naming McCanns as suspects”
“In an interview to be aired on Portuguese radio today, Alípio Ribeiro, the national director of the Polícia Judiciária, will concede that police may have acted too soon in making Kate and Gerry McCann formal suspects, known in Portugal as arguidos. His comments were interpreted last night by the McCanns as a tacit admission that the police were wrong to name them as being involved in the disappearance of their four-year-old daughter”

Peter O, thank you I do more than you of that there is no doubt. People who jump to conclusions are invariably wrong and their judgement suspect, as you are well aware.

In which case you fall into my second category and can’t be trusted.
Madeleine was an innocent three year old girl went she went “missing”. In my opinion, someone(s) close to her, or her close to her family, knows rather more about the events leading up to and following Madeleine’s disappearance than has yet come to light. You, and others of your kin, appear to have not the slightest interest in Madeleine’s fate.
——————————————————————
On the contrary. I think that maybe why we are questioning the PJ?
Come on Peter get out of that barrell!

Morning to you and all.
Just browsing through Sky News and there is a comment by CM made a couple of days ago,
it”s costing £50,000 A WEEK to keep the campaign going. This is for the detectives, adverts,
website and expenses. At this rate the search will close in a few weeks anyway , so it may be another ploy to maintain the Public interest. If the Aguido status is lifted, the public response
will be to feel more pity for the McCanns because of all they have gone through and donations
will start rolling in again IMO

Thanks for providing the translation of the full context of remarks. It appears that the remarks are not ambiguous in the original Portuguese, but are taken out of context by the Team McCann Spin Machine. Yet by now the Portuguese should know that this will be the daily result.
Isn’t there a regular English language publication of these news sources in Portugal. If not, wouldn’t it be wise to provide regular and timely translations of items related to sensitive international issues, like this one?
Thanks again for your contributions, which I always enjoy reading.

Stop defending those people: they could be guilty of killing their daughter and this is it.
And if not, they are STILL guilty of CHILD NEGLECT and should be charged for it to make a GOOD EXAMPLE AS A SERIOUS WARNING FOR HOLIDAY MAKERS

“Instead they did what they should have done, fetched them in, individually, grilled them for a very long time until they knew there was nothing more they were going to say, and that asking the 40 Questions over and over again was getting nowhere, and then moved them up the ladder of official suspicion before letting them leave the country.”
That’s not quite correct, because they had to be arguidified BEFORE they could ask that 40 questions. Remember that they had been asked for hours as witnesses before, thus all questions that could have been questioned without the arguido-state had alredy been answered.
Anyway, the good thing of this is that the mere fact that the McCanns didn’t confess despite of being professionally grilled for several days is IMO highly indicative evidence that they are innocent.
Thus seemingly paradoxical, my personal working hypothesis that they are probably innocent was formed at he day they became arguidos.

Excellent bit of early morning fishing, some posters on this board may find out that having a loose mouth, is no “fun fun fun” at all. What goes around comes around, as I would think they will find out, ridiculous theories of conspiracies and all. Justice for Madeleine. The British government is doing a jolly good job in affording the McCanns the protection of the law, against a clearly incompetent Portuguese inquiry.
+++++++++++++
The thing I have to keep reminding myself about posters like yourself Sledgehammer is that you know no more than the rest of us.
In the unlikely event that you do know more than the rest of us then, and with the greatest of respect to your position, it is unlikely you can be trusted, in my opinion.

MADDIE: POLICE CONDUCTING A BATTLE BETWEEN DAVID AND GOLIATH
“In the McCann inquiry GIVEN THE OBSTACLES THAT HAVE BEEN CREATED IN THE UNITED KIMGDOM, the better tactic would have been to continue the investigation without naming the parents as arguidos,” said a source from the PJ about statements of their National Director, adding that “at the moment the investigation has become a battle between David and Goliath.”
The National Director of the Judicial Police (PJ), Alípio Ribeiro, considered yesterday that there had been “haste” in constituting Kate and Gerry McCann as arguidos in the disappearance of their daughter. ALIPIO RIBEIRO ALSO CONFIRMS THAT THE RIGHT DIRECTION IS BEING FOLLOWED BY THE INVESTIGATORS AND THAT THIS IS AN INVESTIGATION AND WE MUST BE PATIENT.
The statements by the Director of the PJ were made during the recording of the “Diga Lá Excelence” programme on Radio Renascença which will be broadcast tomorrow afternoon, in which he is questioned by journalists and Paula Paiva Celso Torres.

Alipio Ribeiro………… this case with many similarities to Madeleine’s must have slipped his mind, Rene Hasee 1996 German child walking on the beach with parents, also in Portugal….never found a trace of again . Shoddy research by the top cop I think.
February 3rd, 2008 at 9:39 am
32 PeterMac Says:
“What choice did the PJ have ? Their prime suspects just about to flee the jurisdiction.”
Given the fact that they had not enough evidence at that time, they had no means to hold them anyway. Their only chance would have been to try to get a confession by confronting the McCanns with inconclusive or unproven evidence. This has worked in other cases.
But it didn’t work in this case.
Thus they put all their eggs in one basket and they lost. That’s what one could call hastiness. You could also call it hazard.
February 3rd, 2008 at 9:39 am
In view of the obstacles created by the Uk,the next startegy would have been to carry on with the investigation without saying the parents were suspects, says a source of the PJ,in relation with the declarations of their National Director (Ribeiro),adding that the investigation has become a fight between David and Goliath.
Alipio Ribeiro equally confirms the the good direction taken by the PJ,pointing out that it is an investigation with which a lots of patience is needed
********
Rough and quick translation from:http://sosmaddie.dhblogs.be/
The declaration is not against the PJ work, all the contrary.
