Madeleine McCann: Alipio Ribeiro’s Thinks, Clarence Mitchell Knows And A Birthday
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY STAR ON SUNDAY: “MADDIE COPS SAYS SORRY – Police ‘too quick’ “to blame parents”
“A top policeman has sensationally admitted that making Gerry and Kate McCann suspects over their daughter Maddie’s disappearance was too ‘hasty’. Alipio Ribeiro, boss of the Portuguese department in charge of the investigation, dropped his bombshell in a radio interview”
Says Clarence Mitchell, the McCanns spokesman: “Now that the national director of the Policia Judiciaria apparently acknowledges that they should never have been made arguidos, it follows there is no case for them to answer.”
SUNDAY EXPRESS: “POLICE ‘TOO HASTY’ OVER MCCANNS”
“As the couple bravely celebrated the third birthday of their twins, Sean and Amelie, one of Portugal’s most senior detectives admitted that making them suspects had been a “hasty” mistake”
Did Mr Alipio Ribeiro say “mistake” in his radio interview?
Says the paper: “The couple, both 39, said the official’s comments were tantamount to an admission that Portuguese detectives had bungled by centring their investigation on them.”
Says Mr Ribeiro to Portugal’s Radio Renascenca, owned by the Catholic Church:
“At this moment in time and speaking with the experience I have of Portugal’s Public Prosecution Service and the constitution of arguidos, I think there perhaps should have been another assessment before the McCanns were made official suspects.
“I don’t have any doubt about that. The national director of the Policia Judiciaria doesn’t give out orders on the constitution of arguidos but there was a certain hastiness”
Says the paper: “Last night Ribeiro was under growing pressure to stand down as national director of their country’s Policia Judiciaria”. Pressure from, whom?
MAIL ON SUNDAY: “”Police chief: We were too quick to make Gerry and Kate ‘arguidos’”
Says the Mail: “Kate and Gerry McCann’s bid to clear their names over the disappearance of their daughter Madeleine has been given a massive boost after the head of Portugal’s police admitted it had been a mistake to rush into making them official suspects”
Mr McCann says: “We need a breakthrough and this looks like it could be one. It is fantastic news. We still have a long way to go but people in Portugal need to understand what has been happening and what we have been going through. We know it will take the police a long time to accept what has been happening is wrong but it is an important step towards that”
Says the McCanns’ lawyer in Portugal, Carlos Pinto de Abreu: “Many people who may have vital information have possibly not come forward as they wrongly suspected the McCanns”
What about that huge reward, and doing the right thing? People may be deterred from coming forward for fear of being named in the media and questioned by Metodo 3, the McCann’s private investigators. But let us not speculate
SUNDAY PEOPLE: “MADDIE U-TURN - EXCLUSIVE Cops admit mistake on twins’ birthday”
“Kate and Gerry McCann threw a birthday bash for their twins yesterday - as a top cop admitted it was WRONG to name them as suspects over missing Maddie”
Well, Policia Judiciaria “boss” Alipio Ribeiro, said the police acted too hasilty. “Ribeiro last night faced calls to resign over the astonishing U-turn” – although from whom, the paper does not bother to say
Say the McCanns: “The support we have had from around the world has been amazing. It’s helped maintain our strength and hope and this has helped the search for our precious Madeleine. We believe there is a very good chance she is still alive. She deserves the love and security of her family. She needs to be back home with her mummy and daddy, brother and sister”
THE GUARDIAN: “Police chief says ‘we were too hasty’ in naming McCanns as suspects”
“In an interview to be aired on Portuguese radio today, Alípio Ribeiro, the national director of the Polícia Judiciária, will concede that police may have acted too soon in making Kate and Gerry McCann formal suspects, known in Portugal as arguidos. His comments were interpreted last night by the McCanns as a tacit admission that the police were wrong to name them as being involved in the disappearance of their four-year-old daughter”

I just read that piece of stoopid news in The Mail……they just all forget that the mccanns are still arguidos,Ribeiro”s declaration or not! and I doubt very much the PJ is going to lift their status….dont you think (if you are still around)??
—————————————
I don’t think they have forgotten anything; I don’t think anything ever stays in the journo’s minds long enough to actually form memories.
The attention span of a brain damaged gnat seems to sum them up.
And, now we have access to the correct transcript of Ribeiro’s comments, Clarrie’s hopeful cries will be as dust in the next 48 hours.
He couldn’t even get it onto the front page of any of the papers today apart from the Star.
For a man who claims to have the British media sewn up, he’s not doing too well…

Just a thought pigs and dogs root out truffels . Something cryptic that came up a few days ago. Cops are also called “pigs” by certain criminal elements.
Pickles are packed in barrels , plenty of wine vats in Portugal.

BOUNTYHUNTER
The 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) capsules you buy in the health shop usually come from a herb (Griffonia simplicifolia) but it’s also found in foods such as turkey - in fact, turkey is a well known source of it, don’t know why but it is. 5-HTP is a precursor of serotonin which of course is a neurotransmitter, a deficiency of which is thought to be implicated in depression. No-one’s really certain how it all works, but the SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors), which are the group of antidepressant drugs most used these days (eg Prozac, Seroxat), work on the principle of conserving more serotonin in the brain. They aren’t always successful but they do seem to work, by and large, although no-one knows the very long-term effects and some of them have occasionally been implicated in unfortunate side effects such as increased risk of suicide and sudden death. Serotonin can’t be given by mouth or injection as it doesn’t cross the blood/brain barrier but 5 hydroxytryptophan does and then converts to serotonin in the brain. Or so we think.
5-HTP has been available for some years now - less than 10 years (if I remember rightly) in the UK, but I think longer in the USA. Some people find it helpful, some don’t. But people with fibromyalgic symptoms are the ones it often seems to help. Although it’s sold in the health shop (or was when I last looked), I think you should be careful with it. It’s probably OK but you should always be careful if you are taking any other antidepressants because it can be dangerous to have too much serotonin in the body. There is a condition called serotonin syndrome which causes overstimulation of the central nervous system, causing symptoms such as high blood pressure, fever and effects on the heart, which can in rare instances be fatal. In other words I personally would only take it very cautiously and for as long as absolutely necessary, then stop gradually. If it was a choice between 5-HTP and a pharmaceutical antidepressant, I would myself probably choose the 5-HTP (if it worked), but we don’t really know for sure if it is safer than the drugs or not. It’s a matter of personal choice. It’s very interesting that it seemed to help your wife so quickly.

+++++++++++++++
Well, from all of the extracts I have seen, Mr Ribeiro did not make comment about the McCann’s innocence or guilt. The fact remains that they, along with Robert Murat, are still arguido’s in an ongoing criminal investigation.
I have no idea if their status is likely to change, it’s just speculation to say so either way, albeit it seems an unlikely occurrence at the moment. I do think that Clarence has put the most outrageously positive interpretation on Mr Ribeiro’s comments, but then that’s what Clarence is being paid to do. His job is to present his clients in the best possible light, it has little to do with the truth of the matters under discussion.
I would like to think, though it is just unfounded speculation on my part, that Mr Ribeiro knew exactly what he was saying and roughly how Mr Mitchell might attempt to spin it. The coup de grâce for me would be having the PJ deliver the “punch line” to Mr Ribeiro’s “little joke” in the next few days.
I expect however that a further show of patience will be required.

749 Châtelaine,
I can’t find a direct link between the little girl’s disappearance and financial interests.
I rather think that the firms, apart from MW who had an instant need to protect their reputation, thought it would be good for their public image if they helped searching for the girl, as the case had all the ingredients to become famous all over Europe in no time. Now the firms and political people who helped want their public image to remain excellent, and they need the McCs to be completely innocent.
The doctors would never try new medicine on their children I am sure. I think the little girl had an accident, maybe due to being unattended. And that the accident was concealed. Why some friends helped, I don’t know. Maybe because they felt that leaving the children unattended would be considered wrong, and they did it as well.
Now the national prides of both Portugal and England have been harmed. It should never have come to that. The xenophobic press is responsible for it mainly. They fuelled it. It lis a deadlock. The political people have to work so that whatever the issue, no country is going to feel hurt. No winner, no loser. But, please, the truth.
That is how I see it.

Do you really think that the police forces in Iberia and northern Africa haven’t noticed that point?
And do you really think that those police forces have any trust in anything that Clarrie says?
——————————-
sorry my poor english.
I only trust the police in this case.
It was what all my post was about !!
——————————————————–
I was trying to point out, rather clumsily, that Team McCann has more than just the Portuguese police to worry about; all the other police forces involved also have input.
I was pleased to see that Alípio Ribeiro went out of his way to point out that they had had no criticism from the English police forces.
This rather khybers Clarrie’s claim that the English police have assured him that they are all utterly confident in the McCanns innocence of absolutely everything…

Does anyone think that the child at the top of this thread is actually Madeleine McCann. I don’t. There is a resemblance though. Different persona from all the pictures I’ve seen. IMO it’s a different girl with a different life.
Christine, if you click on the link -go about 4 photos down and you’ll see a photo of Madeleine on her bike , same dress, the pink handle bars of the bike can clearly be seen and part of the white basket at the front of the cycle, The only thing I noticed was the hair looked much longer in the one Anorak is showing. Unless there is a secret child a twin Maddey- No I’m being ridiculous now, time for bed metinks.
