Madeleine McCann: A Pundit Says, Judge Eurico Reis Orders And The Sun Omits
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
THE SUN: “Shut up: Maddie cop by judge”
Police national director Alipio Ribeiro “stunned his men” by “admitting” the decision to make “doctors” Kate and Gerry McCann suspects was “hasty”
Judge Eurico Reis said it is “not the cop’s role to publicly comment on cases under investigation. The judge raged: ‘It is his duty to SHUT UP.’”
And: “Portugal’s top prosecutor Antonio Cluny branded Ribeiro’s comment ‘extremely worrying’” – Why worrying? Because of what he said? Or because a policeman has given his personal views about an ongoing case? The Sun fails to make this clear
The McCanns spokesman tells us: “You cannot have the head of the police force openly questioning the validity of the way in which they were made suspects and then not have a review”
Can’t you? Can someone expert in Portuguese law tells us if you can or cannot…
FERGUS Shanahan: “COPS SO WRONG”
Alipis Ribero is on the radiop. Says Shanahan: “In effect, Mr Ribeiro is saying: ‘We never had any evidence agsint Kate and Gerry. We didn’t take Madeleine’s disappearance seriously… Some of our detectives thought Kate and Gerry looked dodgy. So we made them suspects and hoped something might turn up.”
The tabloids, meanwhile, look at “creepy” Robert Murat, also a suspect - you know, the one the Sun calls an “oddball“
DAILY STAR: “BLOW FOR MADDIE PARENTS”
“TORMENTED Kate and Gerry McCann are to remain official suspects over their daughter’s disappearance. They hoped to have their ‘arguido’ status lifted after Portugal’s top cop Alipio Ribeiro admitted it may have been a mistake to put them in the frame. But government legal advisers yesterday denied they were planning to clear their names”
So the personal views of a policeman are not a deciding factor in an ongoing investigation?
“The 39-year-olds may be considered suspects for as long as the investigation continues – possibly years”
Read all about it!
DAILY MIRROR: “STILL SUSPECTS – Maddy probe team in row over letting McCanns off hook”
Says Judge Eurico Reis: “This case has had more than enough media exposure”
Mr Ribeiro is on the radio…
Says “media pundit” Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa: “He killed the investigation when he said there was haste in making the McCanns arguidos in the case”
Says Antonio Cluny, who we heard from earlier in the Sun: “I don’t know if he’s right or not but this conduct of speaking about pending cases is extremely worrying”
Why did the Sun end its Mr Cluny quote short?
LIVERPOOL DAILY POST: “Madeleine McCann: Liverpool grandad hoping for a miracle”
Says Mr Healy: “Like most people I would like to think that if there is a spark of hope I have to hang on to it. They haven’t found anything yet. We have to believe a miracle can happen. I still believe she is alive and until someone tells me different I will believe”
IRISH INDEPENDENT: “Maddy’s grandad hopes for miracle”
Brian Healey says he is pleased that “Alipio Rebeiro, national director of the Policia Judiciaria, said detectives were too hasty in making the couple suspects over their daughter’s disappearance”
Says he: “I am glad he has said it, it will get things moving to reinstate the fact they’re innocent”

I first heard the news at 8.15 on May 4th on my way to work. However I’m sure people at work had heard it on GMTV that morning, I remember someone saying her aunt had said…. (not sure though if it was Aunt Phil or Tricia) she was/is a lovely child. However, at 8.30 on May 4th everyone knew in my place of workabout M’s disappearance.

When I was an infant, I’ve been told, my mother placed me on the bed and then went downstairs to do something. I was her first child. I could not sit up. But I could roll, and apparently I rolled off the bed, and then rolled underneath the bed, where I promptly fell asleep.
My mother then returned upstairs and found me missing. She looked on either side of the bed, in the hallways, and then to the stairs, then downstairs to the garden where they had a pond.
She ran back to the house and called my father at his office, the police, and the firemen, in that order. The neighbors heard her screaming my name, and came to investigate.
The firemen arrived first, and the head one, who was an Irish Catholic with a very large family, went immediately upstairs and looked under the bed, and there I was.
Still alive to this day. But this is very different from what likely befell Madeleine.

But we’d have no way of knowing what information was passed onto Sky News (who knows how clear they were about how long she had been missing, etc.). If they did have a ‘friend’ there and the McCanns appeared to be adamant of an abduction. Doesn’t fully explain it, but it is something to consider.
February 5th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
The parents did not kill their daughter. Not even when the police in Portugal say they have made an error do you people give up…it is unbelievable.

Exactly. And I still don’t understand why Team McConn bluntly refuse to discuss what the McConns were doing earlier in the day on 3rd May. When asked directly on Woman’s Hour on the BBC, KMcC said she ‘couldn’t comment on that’. Why not? What is there to hide?
It would be interesting to let people know, so that a third party could remember something important. For example.
We were at the beach. Then Mrs. X might remember that there was someone odd on the beach that morning and report it.
Why the secrecy prior to the ‘Team McConn Chosen Timelines’?

There was a photo of M in a red velvet dress spoon feeding one of the twins. I think it’s the same dress in the link but obviously doesn’t have to be the same occasion. Red velvet dress kind of suggests some celebration going on.

What “cheers them up” is not the searching for the dead body, it’s the lawyer’s story that he was told by crimeland figures that their “gang” kidnapped, raped, and murdered madeleine, then put her in the lake.
This, to the McCanns, is yet more “proof” that theird daughter was abducted by an evil stranger, rather than dying at their hands.
so yes, they are likely very happy about that. Funny how these stories always come like “bolts out of the blue….” isn’t that how Gerry puts it?
February 5th, 2008 at 8:37 pm

I don’t personally think they are directly responsible for her - regrettably probably death - but I do think they are clearly in denial, and once in denial you can be in denial for many things.
————————————–
I agree. They are in denial that they were at fault which ultimately led to the disappearance of their daughter.
If they were guilty of something more to do with her probable death then they would concede to the fact that they made a mistake, thus suggesting that as a result of their selfishness, she was abducted.

Absolutely, I had the forethought to run, but a trusting child…that young….ergh it makes me shudder.
There ARE some sick people out there, always will be, and it terrifies me how we can continue to protect our young.
Shame that the last place you expect to find the villian is in your own family.

The reason I say 6.00 AM on Sky News is because that is when Coolandcalm said she first heard it. She went on to say she was gripped from then on and listened to all further broadcasts. She has been to PdL or has friends there and because of that personal interest I would trust what she says about the first broadcast time.
Certainly it was on the BBC mid-morning on 4th as a headline item (unless senility is catching me up).
But the big issue remains the same - why would any media source run with such a non-local story as this so quickly. Reading the posts above from Carmen and Poppy - it is quite common for kids to be found within the first few hours. So it would make sense to have a bulletin for local people on Portuguese/English radio stations, but for the rest of Europe?

“Also, there seems to have been a lot of haste in informing the Foreign Office of Madeleine’s disappearance. As I pointed out a few days ago, why inform the Foreign Office, media and call for a priest - all in under two hours since she was ‘found missing’. She could so easily have been found hiding under a bush at that early stage.”
If her body had been found early on, as would have been possible if little Maddie died in her family’s holiday apartment, as has been theorized by the PJ, then from a media standpoint some kind of story had to be in place to lead the reaction of the press.

It shows you how important it is to nail down these times, and how much some folks conspire to make sure you can’t.

The tenacity of kids is amazing. And terrifying at the same time. Someone attempted to abduct me when I was ten, up at a place called Brodie Castle in Scotland. He tried to put me in a van after spending ten minutes trying to coerce me into the woods for a “tickle” and I was so bewildered I just ran and ran all the way home, I told my parent who were horrified! I could not see or understand the problem, as at that age I was unaware of the risks that some humans posed……..

since the window could not (and did not) open from the street, they had to say the left the door unlocked. how else can the abductor get inside the bloody apartment to do his abduction?
Then, they had to say they INTENTIONALLY left the door unlocked because while ONE medical doctor might make a mistake and accidentally leave the door unlocked, TWO OR MORE medical doctors surely wouldn’t. but the McCanns contend it increased their ease of “popping in and out” to do those oh-so-frequent checks.

507 Batman says (February 5th, 2008 at 8:08 pm):
“…as someone else pointed out a few days ago, how strange that the media sources like Sky News were running this as a HEADLINE story on their 6.00 AM programmes on 4th May. This is very unusual for such a story - especially as they would have looked like total prats if someone then came in at 6.30 am and said ‘I found this little girl in my garden asleep’”.
REPLY: Batman, 6.00*am* on 4 May on SKY NEWS - are you sure??? If so, agree totally with your last point, viz., “they would have looked like total prats if someone then came in at 6.30 am and said ‘I found this little girl in my garden asleep’”.

It’s the same attitude that leads them to claim that they “did nothing wrong”, and that it “seemed so right” (which quite frankly, is one of the oddest statements on a topic like this that I have ever heard).
——————
Yeap I see it as odd too.
However, I see odd that the parents (who apparently murdered their daughter and then disposed of her body) wouldnt just openely admit that they regretted leaving her there, unsupervised, to be snatched by the said abductor.
Instead they are steadfast in their belief that they had done nothing wrong, which is hardly the remarks of someone guilty of a dreadful crime.

February 5th, 2008 at 8:17 pm
pancakes that is. i love reading this forum. I am intriugued with the story of MM. Its commanded my attention from day, maybe as a mother it just eats away at you, but I have to say, I do not understand the speed with which the missing “child” status was elevated to abduction. My youngest son wandered off in a park for a whole two hours, involving hundreds and volunteers and police. At no point was it suggested I should phone sky news or a priest…..
February 5th, 2008 at 8:16 pm
I posted this a couple of days ago but it got moderated, since released by DuncanR (cheers)
All my own opinion by the way……..
………..I have a theory.
Maybe Madelaine is still alive. A complete mess but alive.
A drug trial was done on the wee girl. Maybe the trial had been going on for a while. Maybe the trial fucked up in Portugal. Something like her aging process suddenly speeding up or her body swelling up to twice the size (still prob fit in a blue bag the wee thing) or her eyes popping. Something really wierd like that.
Once this reaction to the drug happened a call was made to England for advice. The drug was top secret and had to have government approval in the first place. The government panacking a little and quickly realising the damage for such immoral research could be fatal decided in a cover up. The major financiers behind this drug trial also realised that good reputations will be ruined. So agreed to also finance the cover up and assist in any way possible. Supplying planes trips or 24 hour window repair service and the like.
Thus a flow of people into the saga. Clarrie coming on board to control the lot of them.
Gerry I think at this stage felt really safe. His back was covered and he started to enjoy the limelight. So much so that the whole business mushroomed too fast. He loved the centre stage, although he seemed more nervous when Kate was along side. He courted more famous people than most people see on tv in a life time. He turned it into a us v Portugal and many brits closed ranks and waved their private parts at the PJ. But the one major block to all this is that now the PJ wont take advice and give up. They are going to fight ‘David”. They won’t go away. Ha ha.
Back to a secret hospital…….somewhere in Scotland maybe…..
If Madeliene was alive still, maybe covered pussy lesions, her brain inflating and deflating pushing mucas out of her nose and ears! There would a proffesional need to investigate the effects and gain extra knowledge that would make this drug safe. Who knows it could a matter of eliminating one chemical reaction and this drug would be worth billions. High stakes. Say it was a cure for cancer. Maybe Madeleine did have cancer (she is small and has a funny eye )and for a while the drug worked.
At least it did till May 1st > may 3rd. When the nightmare started for the Tapas 9. Cause I reckon they know of the trail, or at least the majority do. But it seems more likely they were all in on it, including the cowardly Tapas 10 who wont come forward.
So she was kept alive and transported back to England/Scotland, via a private jet, no customs, where at this moment the best Doctors are working frantically to both discover the cause of Madeleines weird reaction and to keep her alive so they can release her in Morocco.
She was to be ready for release before Xmas but she had a relapse.
