Madeleine McCann: Carlos Anjos Says, Clarence Mitchell Replies And The Daily Express Is Quiet
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
THE SUN: “Maddie cops snub”
Carlos Anjos, head of the Portuguese Police Federation, says: “There are bigger problems in the police”, than the case of Madeleine McCann
Says Clarence Mitchell, the McCanns’ spokesman: “Mr Anjos is entitled to his opinion but it is entirely unhelpful”
This the same Carlos Anjos who once noted:
“There is no criminal investigation which can feed a news frenzy for six months, so what we have seen are both English and Portuguese journalists behaving in a scandalous and unprofessional way. Writing terrible stories in the papers, some of which have clearly affected the McCanns… now we have to say that the McCanns are partly to blame for this. Because it was something they created”
And then one of the oddest lines yet seen in a newspaper:
“Meanwhile cops have ruled out a theory the four-year-old could have been snatched by Swiss pervert Urs Hans Von Aesch. He blew his chance in august after killing a girl of five”
Anyone care to explain that comment?
DAILY STAR: “FIND MADDIE? WE’VE GOT BETTER THINGS TO DO. HEAD COP BLASTS McCANN SEARCH”
Says Mr Anjos: “There are bigger problems than the Maddie case”
Why the Star should appear shocked at this seem unclear, given the tabloid stories of paedophilia being rife in Portugal
Says Mr Anjos: “I am certain that all of my colleagues involved in the investigation are doing everything they can to discover what happened”
DAILY MIRROR: “Maddy’s ‘not our priority’”
Mr Anjos made his views known in Portuguese newspaper 24 Horas
MARI Luz Cortes – Still missing. Her father has posted a £110,000 reward, The paper reports that police are “scaling down the search”
DAILY MAIL: “Maddie? We’ve got bigger problems”
Says Mr Anjos: “But with respect, there are bigger problems in the Policia Judiciaria than the Madeleine case”
DAILY EXPRESS: NO MADELEINE NEWS – Which is the biggest Madeleine McCann news of the past six months
Madeleine McCann: hype, frenzy and speculation

I think Jez was just an innocent bystander actually.
You’re right about pram though - but would someone risk being seen coming back with an empty pram?And a pram would be slow and noisy on the cobbles. And wouldn’t it be quicker for a very fit person to run down to the little rocky cove - where the dispatches programme showed how easily a child could be hidden in the large drains; this cove happens to be just where the Irish couple say they saw the man with the child as they left Kelly’s bar; this man has NOT been photofitted by Clarrie;
This beach, 5 mins walk from OC, less in a run, is also opp the church - the church GM asked directions to in the night, the one building you cannot miss in Luz; and the beach is also on the beginning of the coast track to Burgau, popular with joggers/walkers.
Everyone should understand what a tiny place Luz village is, like an island surrouded by with scrubland, rocky coves, low cliffs, the Atlantic, all within a few minutes run for a fit person…
HAve you notices how obsessively GM times is runs on his blog??

And I still haven’t a clue why they need to ask [100?]
Maybe ,some witnesses refused to answer ?
Don’t you think ?
This case ,as been ,an obvious obstrution,to the justice, in every angles ,you can imagine

However, the “letters” which were send [or not, or returned] with the questions
You could read ,even in the Brits tabloids ,that the letters were return to Portugal!
And they have already be sent again

Alipio Ribeiro and Costa are now under fire in Portugal .
For those ,that would like ,the Mccanns to be cleared , is bad news ,because the Portuese wants to know the truth ,and don’t bite all the spins

Indeed he was.
And, as Katy says (82), I think one should read Bridget O’Donnell’s article very carefully. I don’t think she actually knows anything about what happened to Madeleine, but I do think she has her doubts. Haven’t got time to reread it now, but she includes many comments that I don’t think would be appropriate if she actually wanted to suggest that K and G were totally blameless.

***********
Sorry, haven’t had time to go through all the posts.
Yes it looks as if a day without news gets more posts.
So on topic now. I can’t stay long, GMT +1 over here.
As I’ve understood, the speculation by the papers is that the case will be solved.
IMO that’s [the least] very unfair to Madeleine. However, the “letters” which were send [or not, or returned] with the questions, why should they send them if they are ready to shelve the case???
And I still haven’t a clue why they need to ask [100?] questions while they’ve had from May to September to discover there are discrepancies between the statements of the witnesses [T7] and/or the arguido’s [the parents]. Remember they’re talking since the end of September/half October about sending letters to ask questions. Why didn’t they ask these questions to the wittnesses during the period before making the parents arguido’s?

DCB, yes, and he saw nothing strange, no abductor, no Jane Tanner either.
Mind you, she could have wandered out and anyone taken her in - local or holiday-maker, and then something nasty happened.
But isn’t th ebehaviour really odd?
I wasn’t on this blog when BoD wrote he rpiece, must go back now and have a look!

Yes Dcb I’ve raised it a few times but get no takers.
To me it’s really odd. Your child is missing, but you’ve seen Jez walking his child in buggy in the area and in fact you were chatting to him about babysitting arrangements and daughters etc. . Wouldn’t you think, that when Kate called abduction, Gerry would say
“Calm down Kate, let’s look at this rationally, Madeleine must have wandered out, why, Jez will have seen her ,maybe he took her into his apt, I’ll pop over and ask him, she’s probably there….”
or would you completely ignore this possibility, and immediately assume an abduction, but not ask the guy in the neighbourhood, with a daughter the same age as Madeleine, her pal in the creche, if he saw anything… ??? Not that night, not the next day, and not even on Saturday when they met????
And when your friend asks him at 1am, not accept his offer of help with the search??
I know the police asked Jez the next day, but would you not go yourself straight away?? Isn’t it more likely that your daughter wandered out crying and the kind neighbour brought her into his apt to give her a drink/stop her crying etc?? Is not that wht you would be hoping, rather than screaming abduction?? Wouldn’t you ask this new tennis friend for help of any kind???
Read Bridget O’Donnell’s article in the Guardian, I think it is very telling…
