Madeleine McCann: Carlos Anjos Says, Clarence Mitchell Replies And The Daily Express Is Quiet
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
THE SUN: “Maddie cops snub”
Carlos Anjos, head of the Portuguese Police Federation, says: “There are bigger problems in the police”, than the case of Madeleine McCann
Says Clarence Mitchell, the McCanns’ spokesman: “Mr Anjos is entitled to his opinion but it is entirely unhelpful”
This the same Carlos Anjos who once noted:
“There is no criminal investigation which can feed a news frenzy for six months, so what we have seen are both English and Portuguese journalists behaving in a scandalous and unprofessional way. Writing terrible stories in the papers, some of which have clearly affected the McCanns… now we have to say that the McCanns are partly to blame for this. Because it was something they created”
And then one of the oddest lines yet seen in a newspaper:
“Meanwhile cops have ruled out a theory the four-year-old could have been snatched by Swiss pervert Urs Hans Von Aesch. He blew his chance in august after killing a girl of five”
Anyone care to explain that comment?
DAILY STAR: “FIND MADDIE? WE’VE GOT BETTER THINGS TO DO. HEAD COP BLASTS McCANN SEARCH”
Says Mr Anjos: “There are bigger problems than the Maddie case”
Why the Star should appear shocked at this seem unclear, given the tabloid stories of paedophilia being rife in Portugal
Says Mr Anjos: “I am certain that all of my colleagues involved in the investigation are doing everything they can to discover what happened”
DAILY MIRROR: “Maddy’s ‘not our priority’”
Mr Anjos made his views known in Portuguese newspaper 24 Horas
MARI Luz Cortes – Still missing. Her father has posted a £110,000 reward, The paper reports that police are “scaling down the search”
DAILY MAIL: “Maddie? We’ve got bigger problems”
Says Mr Anjos: “But with respect, there are bigger problems in the Policia Judiciaria than the Madeleine case”
DAILY EXPRESS: NO MADELEINE NEWS – Which is the biggest Madeleine McCann news of the past six months
Madeleine McCann: hype, frenzy and speculation

Comments from Murats lawyer regarding his status. Thought it was interesting….. it is actually stated that the PJ know that he never met Madeleine or her parents. (from the local Algarve paper)
so how can they justify keeping him an Arguido?

No I was thinking more that it was like a removal for them, part of a funeral process??
Pppy - actually The Gathering is about a funeral. A bit bleak though some good little descriptions. This is more interesting!!
What’s on sky about Ribero? Watching it now, they’re on the markets…

Well, we have to think like they do (which is difficult!).
All their words are carefully chosen to esnure they avoid a legal charge of neglect. Doctors are of course well aware of the requirements for charges of child abuse and neglect.
This in itself is revealing as it means they were immediately in a defensive stance at a point when most parents would have thrown caution to the wind to recover their lost child. It illustrates that their thoughts were not completely focussed on recovering their daughter.
I dont think they could have marshalled their thoughts and selected an approach like that had she just gone missing, but lets not pursue that thought for now.
This defensive stance indicates that they were acutely aware of the damage which an accusation of neglect could do to them. They might have argued that this would be just another further punishment on top of the loss of their child - as many of their supporters seem to think. Would they not suffer enough through her loss? Why add to the suffering with damage to career and possibly even criminal charges? Perhaps if the other doctors were aware and involved, one of them already in trouble I understand, then a group defensive decision might have been taken.
Does that answer your question?

I’ve wondered since has it fulfilled a personal pupose for them?
sympathy + smokescreen + publicity = money and freedom

And after the removal usually everyone goes to the pub or back to the house for ” a cup of tea” ie loads of drinks, and then the funeral is the next day.
It’s a good tradition I think; when I lost my Mum and Dad I found the removals very soothing, everyone has a good old chat, and yet you still have not done that awful final burial. Of course we do more eating and drinking after that…

It was just that when I saw Kate and Gerry outside the Church in Luz after Mass with people lining up to speak to them it reminded me of a removal and it struck me that they were having a removal every week but no funeral; I’ve wondered since has it fulfilled a personal pupose for them?

Sorry for leaving so abruptly last night, I was very tired! Book club sounds excellent, I am going to buy the gathering tonight so I can discuss it. Will let you know when I have finished it!
Whats going on with this thing on Sky News - apparently riberio is going!

Have to go. Rehearsal. I’ll probably be back when everyone is in bed.

no twas me about the light also. Just seems a very odd thing to do (though leaving those kids alone in the first place seems odd to me also) to leave the appartment in the dark.
So - the appartment was lighter than it was - was it gerry/matt or kate who said this??

Did you see the mc canns acting suspiciously in any part of the church ?

How did we get on the subject of removals?
We don’t do that in Scotland at all. At least I’ve never seen it.

The McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell hit out, saying that unofficial sites such as these distract from the search for Madeleine.
He said: “This man did not seek our permission. We have not cooperated in any shape or form.
COMMENT. We now apparently need permission from Clarrie to open a website. I do most humbly apoligise, Sir. I had no idea when I set up my own that this was the case. Please forgive me !
(And by the way the full cliche is “Any way, shape or form”.)
“Most of this is ill-informed comment at best. While some of it might be accurate, this sort of site runs the risk of repeating mistakes.”
COMMENT. Ah, yes, repeating mistakes. Like descriptions of people, or repeating that there was an abduction, or that the shutters were jemmied open, or that cuddlecat was on a high shelf, or that KM handled 6 corpses in the week before her holiday and didn’t change her clothes either then or for the first 6 days of her holiday or … oh, well never mind, I haven’t time.
He added: “He’s now seeking money to maintain the site. We’d rather people’s efforts and money went to helping to find Madeleine.”
COMMENT. Hear! Hear !. So would we, Sir. And the world is still waiting.

Hi all
Re darkness - I haven’t been there in early May but I’m told it would have been dark. I too wondered about not leaving a light on.
Removal - (perhaps unfortunate term I just realised). Usually the coffin is brought to the Church the night before the funeral. There is a short prayer service. Typically at the end, all the congregation line up and in turn express their sympathies and shake hands with the chief mourners, who are in the front row. Sometimes I have seen this take place outside the church or say next door in the church hall. The removal would normally attract more people than the burial, as it’s held in the evening. In Ireland there would normally be hundreds of people - at my parents’ removals all friends and work colleagues would come, all would line up and offere sypmathy , and also sign a book, and perhaps leave a Mass card. In this way it is quite ritualistic.
Do they do this in Liverpool? I’d say so?
