Carlos Anjos, head of the Portuguese Police Federation, says: “There are bigger problems in the police”, than the case of Madeleine McCann
Says Clarence Mitchell, the McCanns’ spokesman: “Mr Anjos is entitled to his opinion but it is entirely unhelpful”
This the same Carlos Anjos who once noted:
“There is no criminal investigation which can feed a news frenzy for six months, so what we have seen are both English and Portuguese journalists behaving in a scandalous and unprofessional way. Writing terrible stories in the papers, some of which have clearly affected the McCanns… now we have to say that the McCanns are partly to blame for this. Because it was something they created”
And then one of the oddest lines yet seen in a newspaper:
“Meanwhile cops have ruled out a theory the four-year-old could have been snatched by Swiss pervert Urs Hans Von Aesch. He blew his chance in august after killing a girl of five”
Anyone care to explain that comment?
DAILY STAR: “FIND MADDIE? WE’VE GOT BETTER THINGS TO DO. HEAD COP BLASTS McCANN SEARCH”
Says Mr Anjos: “There are bigger problems than the Maddie case”
Why the Star should appear shocked at this seem unclear, given the tabloid stories of paedophilia being rife in Portugal
Says Mr Anjos: “I am certain that all of my colleagues involved in the investigation are doing everything they can to discover what happened”
DAILY MIRROR: “Maddy’s ‘not our priority’”
Mr Anjos made his views known in Portuguese newspaper 24 Horas
MARI Luz Cortes – Still missing. Her father has posted a £110,000 reward, The paper reports that police are “scaling down the search”
DAILY MAIL: “Maddie? We’ve got bigger problems”
Says Mr Anjos: “But with respect, there are bigger problems in the Policia Judiciaria than the Madeleine case”

Julie - be nice now - the woman, i think, was trying to make a valid point, that we should let children experience childhood to its full potential. That includes letting them take some risks, if you ask all the posters on this forum at what age should children be allowed to walk to school alone you would probably get total disagreement.
But in trying to make a valid point she went totally over the top and if the illustrations used were real then i feel dreadfully sorry for her son.
She is right children do need to experience childhood, but more importantly they need to know that they are safe and protected from danger by their parents.

Paid back? how? if they dont have the cash to pay their mortgage they wont have cash to pay the fund back,methink….but one thing is sure:the people who have donated were NOT very pleased with this.I know some posters on anorak have given cash….
Do we really know if the fund is not pating for their general expenses?
One thing is sure is that they havent used it to go back to portugal to “cooperate” with the PJ in their daughter”s disappearance
(Gone to check my cheeseontoast…with sambal olek and pickles…..all this wont cut my appetite)
my point was that as i understand it a seperate fund was set up by r branson and others to pay personal expenses so my question was once they had the money from branson and others did they pay back the money they had taken from the maddy fund.

If you were looking at the spanish media…OMG,I really dont understand why they bother.It seems they just translate from uk tabloids and very little else.
In spain no one believes nor support the mccanns by any means.Thats a relief…..

That’s about the only thing that I’m in agreement with on the entire article. Many parents do believe that children are made of porcelain and treat them as such. However, my view is that children are made of skin, blood, bones, life and love. They do need to be taught that certain things are dangerous for them, but you don’t allow them to get themselves into life-threatening situations just to show them that it’s dangerous!
Holy heck, it’s the same as bloody sending soldiers into war, and instructing them to stand directly in the line of fire and get shot, just so they know they musn’t do it again (if they’re lucky enough to survive that is). She needs to be transported to the local “straight jacket” institution and her kid taken away from her so that the odds on him reaching adulthood can be increased significantly. This woman is from the outer reaches of the universe - the black hole

On sky news is an article about a dad who just ran over his 18month son when reversing, it will be interesting to see what happens to him. Dreadful if he was prosecuted for it..the law seems so fickle to “negligent people”.
